You nailed all of the major issues in this video. Nice to see a review from someone that understands the technical aspects of drag racing. I was most disappointed with the tuning aspects of the game. What made the old NHRA games fun was having to tune to the different track conditions- weather, elevation, night/ day sessions, etc. You got to adjust blower overdrive, spark, nitro fuel timing at different points in the run, wheelie bar height, tire pressure, rear gear ratio, and primary/secondary clutch settings. Being able to run the same setups at every track and having the same conditions each race kills the game quickly. The generic cars are a bummer and you’re pretty much forced to suffer through Super Modified and go upwards as opposed to choosing the classes that you want to run. Even the customization is lacking. You have a generic character. Pro mod only has blower cars instead of nitrous, pro chargers, and turbos also. Having your hand held through the whole racing process instead of free roam is boring. The audio has to be fixed as well. I take it that GamerMill isn’t nearly as well funded as THQ that made the other great NHRA games but at least make the cars sound realistic. Can’t be hard to plug in some real car audio and loop it. I hate to be super critical but I loved NHRA games in the past and see that it could have great potential if GamerMill will be responsive to the suggestions laid out by the racing fans.

it's really too bad, i hope they somehow will keep improving it. the price point is ridiculous too, with the ultimate ed being like 100$. really need these setups u mention, with believable effects to them. and physics, idk if cars wheelie even? and if the steering is affected in a challenging believable way, etc There is nitro in an addon in the ultimate ed, plus other ones i can't make out what they mean much though, what content is there.

I made this mistake of buying this because I wanted to give it a chance - I don't mean to be harsh, because I know GameMill folks would be reading this but I have to express my opinions and disappointment on the product I paid $62 for. I love drag racing, I grew up in a drag racing household, my dad races and used to watch NHRA every week. So I grew up playing a lot of NHRA 2 as a kid ever since I was 6, and NHRA Countdown to the Championship as a teenager which I still play today 15 years later as an adult (also played other drag racing games and flash games like Nitto 1320). So believe me when I say - Not only is this the worst drag racing game but probably the absolute worst game I've ever purchased in my entire life from a quality point of view. I expected it to be bad but not this bad. I at least found Street Outlaws 2 a fun game to play and I expected an improvement from that, but NOPE. This game does not feel like an improvement to me, it is an absolute dumpster fire as an NHRA game IMO. NHRA should be embarrassed for giving out the license for this. I'm starting to think GameMill is just another scam company like Motorsports Games except they release slightly better quality products than Motorsports Games and actually finish their games lol Look, I'll give it SOME credit, it has some great features and aspects, career mode is interesting with the parts, R&D, etc. they are great concepts which we've never had in an NHRA game and also borrows things off Street Outlaws. It has potential there. But the actual gameplay is sooo bad, burnouts are scripted and assisted (and sometimes straight up don't work), backing up is assisted and stops you instead if letting you go further back to straighten the car properly, staging is assisted, brake and accel together instead of an independent transbrake button, and I swear RT is assisted because when I booted the game up for the very first time, went straight to top fuel quickplay and my first two RT's were 010 and 000. How? Either there's an RT assist there or I'm an absolute drag racing god. Why couldn't they just give us freedom like every single NHRA game previously. All the devs needed to do was play previous NHRA games and replicate that 1:1 in a modern gaming engine and they would've had a way better final product. Basically wonky physics and assists let the game down and I get zero enjoyment out of it. In real life top fuel the tyres are never fully gripped up and the drivers are fighting to keep it straight, this game doesn't even have any of that, they could've carried that over from Street Outlaws to at least have the nitro cars feel realistic to drive and it would've been more fun to tame these beasts, but they didn't. And with NHRA Countdown to the Championship, I could play for hours tinkering and tuning to improve my ET, and I don't get that with this game. I play it for 6 minutes in quickplay before I got bored and moved to career where I played for another 15 minutes before getting annoyed and turning it off. Can't even tune in quickplay, and it already gives you the best setup and you win by half a second because the AI sucks. What's even the point? Also as you touched on at the end of the video, every track has different conditions which I remember in Countdown to the Championship you had to tune for, it was so advanced and realistic. And 15 years later they can't do it and we end up with whatever this is. Also a small thing - The models are wrong, even Funny Car and Top Fuel cars are wrong, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't even need licensing for those. They could've easily scanned the models to have an accurate representation but decided not to and do half-assed car models instead. I'm waiting to hear back from Sony for my refund because I genuinely feel ripped off and scammed and felt sick, and I've never felt like that before and I've never even refunded a game before so this will be the first, if they let me (I think Sony has a thing where once you download it you can't refund). I'm surprised that you're this positive in your review tbh the game didn't feel that positive to me. I guess it's different since you didn't pay for it. If I got it for free I probably wouldn't be this upset either. I wouldn't recommend anybody buying this game, either get it for free if you can or get it for $10-20 because at $60 it's basically a scam.

Thanks for your review. You saved me $50. This is completely lame. Yeah the tracks are pretty but that doesn’t matter if the realism isn’t there. When I had nhra championship drag racing on ps2 back in the day, you had to put in effort in tuning to make it run good. Far more realistic 20 years ago. Such a shame.

I played NHRA 2 a lot growing up. You had to stay on top of the conditions. It was a feat to not just spin the tires off the line when I first started playing. Had to really mess with the clutch setup

Nhra Top fuel Thunder had sooo much potential with the tuning, but they really never finished the game...dropped holes and reading the racepak, making clutch adjustments on the primary weight to get the car to 60 ft better was realistic,i can't fathom how nhra dropped the ball with this game, knowing the past games were already good atleast

I’m hoping they can patch in the weather and environmental conditions effecting the times that the cars run. You’re right that is the biggest issue with this game. Having Randomized temperatures, wind speeds, humidity etc. at the tracks would be nice.

A couple of things- Haven't they ever heard the phrase "GO ON YELLO"??? Also Pro Stock is a 5 speed, not a 4 speed. There's no way they talked to any drivers or crew chiefs. And why is there smoke coming out of the back of the funny car while staging? I wish NHRA had more money to throw at something like this because the idea of having a top notch drag racing game would be great. Maybe we could get Rockstar to put it in GTA6?

Kinda what I thoguht when I saw your early uploads... $20 or less ($50 is way too high). Missing drivers/sponsors/manufactures is unfortunate too. Lack of reverse camera, hud to assist with backing up, or a crew member infront of you running back with you to help you too. Hopefully some patches will come and help, but yeah, waiting for a steep sale.

Also, one thing is, is that you shouldn't be able to cut a 0.000 almost 98percent of the time. I got it figured out the first day of release, In Count Down to The Championship it was much more realistic and harder to hit the perfect light, you couldn't do it 4 times in a row without redlighting at all.

The biggest issue is one you addressed at the end...tuning...part degradation...actual race data to evaluate and then apply to the chassis setup...I understand that tire physics are almost impossible to simulate on a realistic level but there has to be a feel of sorts, the ability to overpower the car and blow the tires off completely or just be ahead of the tire with some wheelspeed...there is no soul in this game....this is what happens when suits sit at the office and dont bother going to the pits of a National race

A problem with the "regional" tracks is that they don't all have the modern tree. I live in Tucson, and have been to the track multiple times. They definitely have the "old school" bulbs on their tree.

I was expecting graphics on the level of Grand Turismo and Forza. You mentioned a lot of things i did not catch as well as a lot i did notice. A couple things are they never show the funny cars with the body up. They make it appear to start with a key. One of the main attractions of going to a drag race is to see how they start those cars. Also they don't have any of the crew on the track with them. After the burnout those guys are rubbing the tires, they raise the body back up to take out the throttle stop, and the crew chief always gives the driver the tap in front of his face shield right before final stage. I know that that's a lot of intricacy and fluff, but if this is really supposed to be a driving simulator they could at least have that in a side video that you can pass by or allow it to be indicated in the race. I'm not sure if the Developers of this game ever actually went to a drag racing event. I think they should have, it would've helped with their model.

It's no Valusoft title, which was seriously fantastic for what it was, but it's also no N21 Ignition. OIt's also a lot better than Quarter Mile Showdown too, but I did spy a lot of DLC already out for Steam. TBF, the Bethesda games didn't have licensed teams, tracks, or a proper series, but Burnout/Burnout PCE still have a giant modding scene, they have the ability to lose yourself in the tuning, even if it took until NIRA to get working turbos/superchargers despite Burnout/Burnout PCE shipping with Funny Cars/rail cars and modeling, on the cars, the superchargers though... So, it's not the best, not the worst, it's serviceable an solid. I didn't see anywhere it claimed to be a super ultra realistic hardcore drag racing sim either. It was marketed to everyone

I wish I saw this before buying this garbage game. My father was a drag racer since he was 17 and retired when he turned 40, unable to keep up after my little sister was born. He loved drag racing and my older sis and I grew up going to the races. He had a Top Fuel Rear Engine. Beautiful maroon and I remember he'd let me sit in it whenever he tweaked on it at home. I loved watching the races he did and the drag racing shows with him. He passed away last year, so when I discovered this game as ps4 game, I was so hyped!! Excited to be playing a NHRA drag racing game! That hyped was instantly crushed seeing how difficult it is just to do the first race!! I did a quick play with the top fuel, so easy and I kept winning! So when starting 'career' and kept crashing the stupid car, i got so frustrated! I thought this would be a game my dad would love and I wanted to play in remembrance of him. Instead, I kept crashing, disqualifying, veering off into the other lane. I messed with the tuning so many times, for over two hours- nothing made a difference! I just gave up and tossed my controller! I rather just watch old drag racing videos of my dad than play this ever again! Thankfully, i bought it half off and I plan to return this piece of trash game. I thought Street Outlaws game was bad, at least my dad made it past the first race in that game when he got that game!

I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I imagine the NHRA brass being full of cheap ass boomers who don't give a shit about having to make a "silly ole vidya game". Just pay whoever is the cheapest to make it and "aw hell, looks like a vidya game to me bucko, release it". You'd think they'd realize that a good game might actually attract new fans to the sport.

Wow. Thanks for the very thorough review of this game. I was really hoping this was at least decent. So disappointed. And I hope the devs watch this and make some changes to make this better. It's way to costly to have all these issues. I also hope they can attain the additional licensing for the missing drivers and the car manufacturers. Really? Generic cars in 2022? Pass. I'd hope for a better sequel but feat if not enough people buy this one there won't be a sequel. What to do... what to do...

Honestly, it didn't dawn on me to put this in, but when choosing a pro mod driver, they aren't real drivers so you have NO IDEA what kind of car you're going to be driving. There are so many different combinations in pro mod, and it would have been nice if they showed what kind of car they drive. Maybe I wanted to drive a nitrous car? The fake driver's need to have labeled what kind of car they drive, be it nitrous, turbo, or supercharger.

Yes..better setup and weather conditions would be great. But what the hell is going on with the competition? You never EVER lose unless you flat out crash. Your cars run ridiculous numbers and in some cases out qualify the field by over a second lol.. not to mention the staging and tree is ridiculous,the shut down area is unrealistic and a joke and the blown tires and crashes are comical. Not too mention there’s glitches all through out the game. Oh yeah the sound is terrible too.I could go on and on… what a mess🤦

As I watch this, I just can't understand why this is a game. I barely understand the point of drag racing in general, it just seems like a test-and-tune thing that should never have been a head to head competition. I could see how back in the day of cheap V8 muscle cars that could be tuned by a teenager on the weekend that it would be fun to see if you outdid your friend, but once you get to top fuel it just seems like a complete waste of money for nothing. Top fuel engines literally melt themselves in a single run and need a rebuild every run, that's not remotely useful for adapting to a street car. Sure, it's fast acceleration, but so is a rail car with a rocket on the back or even a rail car pulled by a cable. Just sit in a chair and get pulled by a cable if you want to feel the "rush" of acceleration. Then, as a game, you don't even feel the G's, you're just doing the equivalent of one of those "click the mouse when the screen turns green" reaction tests and then watching a virtual car go fast. The whole "sport" just screams of cope from people that can't hack it in circuit racing, and the fact that pro drag racers get their ass kicked at Toyota Celebrity Grand Prix seems to back this up. If you're not turning left and right with varying corner radii, it's just not racing IMO.

I’ve seen many many people talk extremely bad about the console version of this game. How bad it was and it is no where near worth what this company is charging. Could they come out with patches to make this game better? The IHRA game on the PlayStation was better then this 😂.

Just want to say NHRA races do still pack in the fans. Not sure how many pro NHRA races you've been to, but it doesn't sound like a whole lot of them. But thank you for the review. It's too bad this game sucks so bad.

The I.H.R.A game "Burnout" is still the only good drag racing game ever made. Check it out sometime. There has literally never been a good NHRA game, at least not if "Burnout" was in your sim drag racing library back in the day. You'd never even give this game 20 minutes if you've played that. 1998 produced a better drag racing game than anything since. I went back and played it a few weeks ago and it still pretty much makes you not want to play any of the newer drag racing games lol
