Yep. Even though eventually they ran out of source material, it was still a disaster. You start taking creative liberties with someone else's intellectual property and you get the mess we got in s8. An I don't think the GoT universe has room for anymore mistakes or we can kiss more live action adaptations goodbye. Would you watch if they fuck this show up too. Knowing full well they have 100% of this story. I wouldn't. Let us pray the mother be merciful and the ship gets turned around for the better😂

That's the thing, Rhaenyra was never a good ruler, she was a horrible and incompetent tyrant at the point she was mocked as second coming of Maegor and peasants rioted against her. They shouldn't never portrayed the Dance on tv series if they wanted a female good ruler.
@icechoc3 ай бұрын
@ilbb7055 - this just isn't true though as the sources that say this are pro team green and pro Hightower. Rhaenyra did what that was tyrant behaviour? Tyland took all the money leaving King's Landing with nothing. Aegon is said to be an alleged rapist but somehow Rhaenyra is worse because she raised taxes? She had nothing to do with Blood and Cheese.

GRRM had to stand up for his life work because they are destroying it
@AWSVids3 ай бұрын
It seems to me that the problem is Condal and co. don't want to let the story be as brutal and depressing as GRRM meant it to be. They're trying to lighten things up, balance out the darkness, make Rhaenyra and Alicent more likeable sympathetic characters who don't want war, etc... I think this is all the result of the backlash against not just Game of Thrones, but all major franchise properties lately that have tried to do something more subversive, more unconventional in terms of heroes being good, etc... the Dany fans reacted horribly to Danaerys being turned into an unsympathetic warmongering villain... Star Wars fans reacted horribly to Luke being made more complex and cynical... and now artists are seemingly feeling like they need to walk on eggshells with audiences, trying desperately not to do anything that makes the show too unpalatable to a mainstream audience. Not wanting to depress them or shock them too much. Not wanting Rhaenyra to disappoint the fans that wanted a feminist hero in Danaerys, so they're trying to make Rhaenyra into what people wanted Dany to become, so when she wins the throne, it'll satisfy the people who were disappointed by Season 8. And in trying to do all that, they try to please everybody, but end up pleasing almost nobody. The show ends up becoming relatively bland, because they've lost the courage to do the kind of shocking, bold, unconventional storytelling that George's writing is all about. They end up wanting to remove or water down the more brutal and tragic parts of the story. They've made Rhaenyra frustratingly passive through their attempts to insulate her from any of the wrongdoing on her side. Same with Alicent by making her only push for Aegon's claim due to a misunderstanding or having no agency otherwise. They made Daemon less directly/obviously responsible for instructing Blood & Cheese to kill children, in order to not make him too unlikable. They changed Blood & Cheese simply to make it less brutal and less intentionally cruel on Blood & Cheese's part, making the whole thing seem more like a mix-up/mistake. They probably want to get rid of Maelor's whole death storyline, because it's an easy way to get rid of something really shocking and brutal that might make people feel like this story is just nothing but tragedy and depressing shit with unlikable characters (I think they're trying to make us like the common folk more too, so having them tear apart an infant would be too unlikable... might not even have them kill dragons at all... maybe killing off Sunfyre [gradually, off-screen?] was the beginning of how they'll have the dragons dying instead). Have to keep Halaena's suicide, but doing it without another immediately preceding tragedy might soften the blow, I guess. Again, I feel like this is because of the backlash to Game of Thrones not being the positive ending for Danaerys that people wanted, or for Jon not becoming King, or whatever their fairy-tale hopes were for the ending that would make all the tragedy worth it by the end. With House of the Dragon, as written in Fire & Blood... it would be even more tragic and depressing than Game of Thrones' ending was. I think they're scared to do that, expecting that people would walk away from the ending of the show with even more bitter feelings of disappointment than they did with Season 8. They're probably wanting to change it to something more middling and cushioned in impact, so that there'll be some positive silver-lining... or that it just won't be as brutal or shocking in how they do it. They seem to want to do "House of the Dragon!!!" yay! Targaryens! Dragons! Cool, eh? But _we really really want you to like the characters still and not be disappointed or too shocked or depressed_... ... They don't want to do "The Dying of the Dragons", like it is in the book. I remember when season 1 began, and a lot of people were kinda like, "I don't know... Do I want to go back to Game of Thrones after it hurt me so?"... and I was feeling back then that these kind of people are not gonna like how House of the Dragon plays out, if it sticks to the book. It's a depressing tragic story of the end of the Targaryen heyday, with "The Dying of the Dragons" being the unofficial name for it, besides "The Dance of the Dragons". And yet, people were lightening up when they saw the show had a bunch of new colorful dragons for them to adore, and Rhaenyra is a badass characer played awesomely by Milly Alcock and Emma D'Arcy... I was just like, "Oh no... these people are setting themselves up for disappointment again." ... It seems that Ryan Condal and crew felt the same. But instead of having the fortitude to just plow forward and say "Fuck the softies that won't be able to handle this story as it's meant to be." .... they've gone the route of trying to soften the blow and cater to the softies, prioritizing the show's mainstream appeal over book-faithfulness or bold storytelling. And that's where all these problems seem to be stemming from.

People defend the show because the book's story has multiple narrators so, "Nothing is canon".

Sounds like after the success of Season 1 Ryan thought that he was just as talented as GRRM and could write a season with Sara Hess that was better than the source material. Oops. Stick to the books Ryan. You are adapting ANOTHER writer’s story for a reason. If you were really a creative powerhouse this would be your IP on the screen. Funny how the only original shows anyone watches on HBO are from GRRM but yet the executives over there think they are better storytellers than George, even after the Season 8 disaster. Keep thinking that HBO & WB - there is a reason why your studio has the most debt in the entire industry.
