Great video man, really well explained - obviously a great instructor as well as general bjj practitioner. I don't hit K guard often, but will certainly give this a crack!

Hi Josh, may I ask what did you mean at 2:03 mark of the video that you could move to you " 1 and 2 " ? Would you be able to post a video about that ?
@rollinOnCode Жыл бұрын
thank you josh for sharing! wow- that looks very interesting. how are you biting the ankle? is it just try to grab high? what is preventing them from turning their foot out? how are you directing your pressure to control the foot?
@bolieve6033 жыл бұрын
Ah, nice. I caught a straight ankle lock today on a white belt since it's a pretty safe submission. He said it wasn't too tight but I really feel like tuning my straight ankle lock up since it's legal under most rule sets.

I love the details. But isn't this a type of X guard and not K guard?
@vhp310 Жыл бұрын
its modified x with a kguard hook/half butterfly to half butterfly ashi when you get them down. I just literally asked my instructor this exact question

I wonder if in nogi, instead of grabbing lapel could you punch your hand up high across the chest to upper pec and hold would still work? Thanks. Great video
@JoshMcKinney3 жыл бұрын
In no gi you can enter the position by playing two on one from your guard. Both of my hands on one of theirs while both of my thumbs are pointing toward me(I hope that makes sense). Then, You can finish it very similarly by just resting your palm on your own belly instead of grabbing your own lapel. You just have to keep your arm very high on your belly(even up to your chest).

A lot of k-guard talk, but isn't most of that x-guard?
@teejay4113 жыл бұрын
Same same, but different.
@JoshMcKinney3 жыл бұрын
The foot place is slightly different and it changes a lot of the attacks you can go for. But they do look very similar as a position.
@teejay4113 жыл бұрын
Two feet crossed on the far leg = X guard One wrap on far leg, one on the near leg = K guard Again, great video. I watched it a couple times through and picked up different details each time

The Aokilock isn't an inside heel hook, it doesn't use any of the same leg entanglement principles. All good leg locks use twisting force, isolating their heel on your chest stops them from booting and creates the torque for rotational pressure. There's nothing illegal about it as the rules stand, "straight ankle locks" haven't been straight ankle locks for years already.

i dont think it feels like inside heel hook pressure too much Edit like I see it can mimic the pressure but I think it’s hard to get proper breaking mechanics for an inside heel hook there
@linusji17322 жыл бұрын
I've been doing this all these years but always thought it's X guard
@luwinson30472 жыл бұрын
Damn same here, my coach actually taught us as a x guard combo years ago haha
@cucciafr68 Жыл бұрын
It seems to be a K guard / x guard hybrid. If the foot of the leg doing the k guard switches to the far hip then it becomes a full x, at least in my opinion.
