THANK YOU! I’ve been searching for an explanation like this for a while now. This is exactly what I needed 🙏🏻 I have a hard time with arm bar submissions due to the S grip and cable grips. I can’t wait to test this out next roll sesh

Zaziar I dunno about your classes, but the people I train with are very respectful and don't really care about something that trivial. Our Muay Thai Khru wears Marvel stuff all the time. 🤓

Well i train at the Black Dragon Dojo in sydney Australia, and we do not tolerate weakness, people who do things like that get bullied out of the classes or beaten up by the head instructor Master Kang.

Rock to the side - so you finish above his head is a superb way to break the grips. Its easy to remember and it works. People did it on me today and I broke my grips and tapped lol. IF this was MMA you could hammer fist with free hand or if it was street fight use axe heel kicks

Hi chew, I'm 21 and a 15 year veteran and black belt at judo. I have recently taken up jiu jitsu and considering entering a jiu jitsu competition however I am concerned that my advanced repertoir of throws will be viewed as "slams" and earn me a disqualification. I was hoping you could do a video distinguishing a throw and a slam in the eyes of a referee. Thanks in advance. (P.S. I am perfectly capable of crushing my opponents on the ground but if I can use everything I have, I will)

Michael Love hey dude ! Slams are only from "guard" or during a submission . You can do any tachi waza throw in a bjj comp ;)
@mikelovemarine7 жыл бұрын
Does this include submissions whilst standing? From the lots of videos I've watched there are more than a few where somebody has countered a headlock with sukui nage, tani otoshi or te guruma and been disqualified. These are the throws with the most blatant "lift and slam" type delivery however if someone without tachi waza education at least to competitive judo brown belt level tries to grapple me standing I will in all likelihood throw them in the air and that's what I'm worried about, obviously the throw will be clean but it'll smack them off the mat pretty hard especially if I follow them and land on them.
@SadaParkour7 жыл бұрын
Michael Love like i said, you can't defend a submission by slaming but te guruma, sumi gaeshi, tomoe nage on someone who s trying to guillotine you is perfectly fine. You can win all your comps till blue belt only with throws, 100% guarantee. Greetings from French Guyana :D

I'm a 2 month white belt, jui jitsu is very difficult for me I'm a striker by nature. How do I stay motivated when doing bjj, I like it, but i can't seem to get any submissions and that is very irritating to me. Any advice?
@drewjacques71327 жыл бұрын
Jamaine Fleming507 Sadly I would just say it's practice. I've been a boxer for 6 years now and recently gotten into BJJ and I couldn't get any submissions over and over. But what I would say is just practice practice practice and I promise you'll get better. BJJ is so complex that thats all I can really pitch to you. But trust me, once you start being able to lock submissions in; that feeling will make it worth it

Keep training. Everything will fall into place.

Roll, roll, roll. Bring your skill level up and the finishes will come. Ask people that you know are more skilled than you to roll and just learn to avoid at first, you'll get caught but you'll learn, and at some point it'll just get easier. Watch the pro's rolling, seeing the skill and fluidity of them rolling is excellent motivation, Marcelo Garcia is a true genius of the sport.

I'm a white belt too, so I'm no expert, but I think it will be good for you to change your mindset. You shouldn't be frustrated for being unable to submit your training mates, because most of them will have way more experience and skill than you. What value would have bjj if a 2 months white belt could submit a blue belt, or even a one year white belt? Bjj is awesome precisely for that, the more you train and the more you know, the more "dangerous" you are. In striking martial arts someone with your experience could get a lucky shot on an advanced student, but usually the advanced student would win. And in bjj, those lucky shots are even more rare. So I would recommend you to change your "win requisites". Stop thinking that you need to submit to win. At the beginning, you win for being submited less than the last roll. If in your last roll you were submited 4 times, now you win if you are submited 3 or less times. When you can get out of the roll "alive", you can start thinking on stop being in losing positions (like the bottom of the mount, or someone having you in side control), and force your rolling mate into those same losing positions. And finally, when you can get to strong positions with some frecuency, you can start thinking about submissions. But don't hurry. Bjj is a long run. Don't expect to reach the goal tomorrow. You just need to know you are in the right path, and enjoy the travel. You will get there eventually.
@Kev80ification7 жыл бұрын
Forget about the submissions for the moment mate. For each sessoin just make it your objective to make it harder for the individual to submit you, and if you get position, relax there, get good at controlling ppl, then the submission will come. I pormise if you just keep showing up you will see the improvements and will get those submissions.

Hey question!! assuming i am attacking the arm as per the author here what is the difference between putting my right arm hooking his arm vs putting in my left arm? is it a difference of follow up options ? structural ? Thanks in advance
@CasualCarlosBJJ7 жыл бұрын
Jeff Chen I believe it is to help you use stronger muscle groups to break the persons grips while also isolating the stronger muscle groups from the person on the bottom. From the way they are positioned in the video the entire time, hooking the left arm in and using your own weight to pull the arm towards your opponents head makes it very difficult for them to maintain those grips as their arm is now weak. Also, you'd be giving up a good hand to post on should your opponent try to roll you over on your side if they went to defend the sub.

ah ok , i have not considered what you have mentioned before thanks! i've been using my right arm attacking his left arm all these while, because i can use my left arm to hook his leg to somewhat control his escapes like that

To chewjitsu and anyone else willing to comment: I am a 17 year old white belt who is 1.70 m tall and walk around at 65kg (when i eat usual food inc mostly unhealthy). I really am competition hungry and love bjj, is it too early? Cause im white belt and it i did compete, what weight do you think I would compete at?
@CasualCarlosBJJ7 жыл бұрын
Hejraat Rashid just go for it. Naturally we all want to "win" every match and every roll but I feel you will have to adapt the "win or learn" mentality. I was in just 1 tournament as a white belt. I trained hard, took some private lessons, I felt very comfortable with my game plan. 2 matches, lost both of them. Not going to lie, I was pretty discouraged that day but in the days and weeks following, it opened my eyes to how I lost. That led me to want to learn the different defenses which ultimately led me to being pretty decent at those various attacks I was learning defenses to. So, for me, "losing" that tournament helped me out more than winning would have in my opinion. Just have fun and roll!
