Natalie doesn't just use her voice when she sings. She uses her being. Her soul.

I met her in New York. She shook my hand and bowed her head because I brought my kids to see her. I kept it together until we stepped outside and I started to cry I was so happy 😂

I would be tears before also. We have tickets to see her in Providence, RI this June, 28, 2023. Got 3rd row seats so though I may not be able to meet her, this will be the next best thing. This will be the 4th time seeing her and the closest yet.

I met her in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, England in 2018, after seeing her play a tiny venue with just her guitarist Erik Della Penna accompanying her. Easily the best gig I have ever been to. As I was at the bar, after the show, I saw that she was talking to a few fans in the other room. I knew that would probably be the only chance I ever got to say hello and thanks for 30 years of listening to her music, so I fought my inhibitions and said hello and chatted for a few minutes. I normally despise 'celeb' culture, but Natalie Merchant is different. I was buzzing for weeks afterwards!

What a perfect combination! I've listened to Natalie since I was in my early 20's When my children were babies and that was 35 years ago. She's amazing. And her singing with Simi Stone...Amazing harmony and amazing together!!! I'll never stop listening to such amazing women!

What an absolutely perfect song for the situation the US finds itself in at the moment. "You go passing wrong for right and right for wrong, people only stand for that for just so long."

And look where letting wrong for right has gotten us... crime and deaths at an all time high. Sad. Love Natalie regardless of her positions.

This song was first recorded in summer 2001 on her 'Motherland' album. The album was released just after 9/11 and Natalie has said that it was a very difficult time to release an album that dared to question or criticise the American way of life. This song turned out to be sadly prophetic.

Not sure what you mean. I saw her play live in tiny venues on her UK acoustic tour in 2018, and that is definitely her natural voice. It has changed a lot over the last 3 decades, but she still has a great voice.
