vegans get on my nerves, they seem to eat constantly, and then they got to take protein supplements, and they go on about food that looks tastes smells like meat but its not meat. why dont they just eat meat?
@jackbauer54556 жыл бұрын
Many people are vegan because they don't want to harm animals therefore if there are plant meats on the market it makes senses for us to consume them as we didn't stop eating meat because of the taste we did that because we don't want to harm animals. Also, there is plenty of protein in plant foods no need for protein supplements if you have a whole foods plant-based diet then there is no problem.

Hi jenny You are so right!, if people only knew, but almost noone wants to know, it is to inconvenient, to learn new habits!. The first time 3 years ago, I went shopping after going Vegan, it was overwhelming, I did not know what to buy, to eat. My list was like this: No Meat No Dairy No Wheat/Gluten No Eggs Mostly Organic food. It was daunting!. But today I am so happy, to be Vegan, and in good Health, with good consciousness!😃👍🏼 Today, I'm the one teaching my friends about how to shop and eat Vegan!😍 Go watch Earthlings, on Netflix, or Cowspiracy, or Forks over Knives!!!!!!. You will never be able to look the same way at eating Meat again.🤔😰😭 Its easy to let somone else do the animal killing for you, if people only knew, and saw the suffering, heard the crying, and looked the animals deep into their eyes, most people could not eat Meat again, I think!?🤔😰 Now I follow a Channel called cooking with plants, posted by Anja, it has changed my Vegan life, so much, cause now it is so Quick and easy, to make many different tasty Vegan dishes. Try it out!.

So nice to see a interview of vegan and meat eaters being respectful and polite and non judgmental. Great Job Natalie, you are a great advocate for vegans !
@elenasingleterry58546 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how the concept of respect factors into it: meat eating automatically disrespects the right of animals not to be slaughtered. Vegans simply try to protect that right of animals, not their own right “to dictate what people should eat”.
@elenasingleterry58546 жыл бұрын
It is far more judgmental to decide that animals who owe us nothing are meant to be slaughtered for food. You can't talk about animal suffering without talking about animal suffering.
@elenasingleterry58546 жыл бұрын
SO how does one talk about animal suffering and slaughter without talking about animal suffering and slaughter? I am curious
@elenasingleterry58546 жыл бұрын
I understand your point and there is of course validity to it. Some people find it hard not to be sincere with what they really care about with regard to animal products. If they are truly disturbed by the fact that animals who feel pain and terror in the face of death the EXACT same way people do are dragged to slaughter and are slaughtered (factory farms or local farms), it is hard for them to sit there and talk about other things, like how does a local farmer make money if they stop slaughtering animals. When every day your heart gets a little more broken over this never ending horror of abuse of the innocent, it is hard to do what you're proposing, even if at the end of the day that still helps the general cause. And speaking of caring about fellow men and women: VEGANISM is not a type of compassion that steps over humans and goes straight to animals. Ethical veganism is the EXTRA mile of compassion, that you, (having being born with extreme sensitivity to ALL abuse, INCLUDING the kind that is still legal,) walk. It starts with humans and then extends to animals, not any other way. I see your point however, also wanted to give you the insight on this end. And most ethical vegans would not ever adopt this concept proposed by this documentary that there is such thing as humane way to take the life of someone who doesn't want to die.

You will begin to notice the downfalls of your NO meat diet when you get older. The brain needs Chlolestrol to stay sharp and focused. I know many Vegans and they end up ALL being AIR HEADS because they get zero chlolestrol to the brain! Meat is the ONLY real good protein machine that gives you the cholesterol you need for your brain. There is a good chance you will end up with Altheizmer's because you are not getting your protein cholesterol.

Thank you Natalie - eating meat is unbelievably cruel. People cry when they get high cholesterol, high blood pressure, gout, etc., all related to meat consumption, yet they can't put the fish, chicken, or ribs down. Dairy and eggs are just as cruel in 'factory farms'. I have met people with dangerous meat-eating health issues that refuse to give up meat. It is akin to a person with lung cancer refusing to give up cigarettes, only with cigarettes, an individual only harms himself/herself. Karma exists.

Natalie Portman failed to point out that those "traditional farms" are even less sustainable for the human population. This is the very reason why factory farming is over 99% of all animal farms. Because the demand is so damned high that this is the only way to do it. And even if the conditions in traditional farms are better, that doesn't justify the animal exploitation. It is a sick and unnecessary industry to begin with. But I think she is aware of it and being careful not to scare people too much at once. Babysteps ":)

Unprocessed: whole grains; potatoes with the skin cooked in your kitchen; rice with the bran cooked in your kitchen. Basically freshly prepared foods as opposed to factory produced ready to eat foods. There are mass produced foods that are plenty nutritious like canned stewed tomatoes or fruit preserves, but the problem is when excess salt, refined sugars, preservatives and stabilizers are added to frozen and vacuum packed foods so they can sit on a shelf for a long time. In a nutshell freshly prepared with unprocessed ingredients.

*Valhalla* The USDA and other food charts are constructed first and foremost by people who themselves eat meat and live in a meat eating society and so view meat eating as natural, normal and necessary. Second agricultural agencies are in the business of promoting agriculture. Animal agriculture makes up a significant part of most nations agricultural system and so they natural advocate for animal foods. And lastly these agencies are part of a political system and so are susceptible to political pressure directly from the animal industry or through elected officials who depend on money and votes from the animal food industry and farm state votes. The best available science however says that animal foods are completely unnecessary for human nutrition. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has issued a policy statement saying that vegan diets are nutritionally appropriate for all phase of life including infancy, pregnancy and lactation. The science also says that even small amounts of animal products do not promote long term human health, and that regular consumption actively harms long term health. So if those creating the food guidelines actually followed the best available science they would not advocate any consumption of animal products and suggest that if animal products are consumed they only be eaten in small amounts and not more than once or twice a week. But to the degree they even think about doing this, they know that it would be political suicide if they recommended cutting out all meat. And so meat, dairy and eggs remain as recommended foods.

Factory farming is horrific. Twenty-five year vegetarian I long have not been able to tolerate eating the flesh of an animal. I from the middle of my life (I'm 56) connected meat to an animal's body and the idea of eating it grew to be anathema. Force-feeding geese to fatten their livers? Repugnant. And yes, I do realize eggs and dairy still manipulate and use the bodies of animals I would be hardpressed (as keto) to shift what I eat. But easily half of my diet is plant-based. I hope the industry does change. So may it be.

Great stuff. An animal's life is not less important than human preference. We already think this way about dogs and cats, we just need to apply this logic to pigs, cows, chickens, etc. as well. It'll take time but more people are seeing our inconsistency in how we love certain animals and look at other animals as mere objects of our consumption. It's not a coincidence the 3 animals referred to most for people to make fun of each other are pigs, cows and chickens because those are the animals farmed the most in the west and so there is a need to see them as less than other animals in order to feel okay with how they're being treated. Check out this video 'The Vegan Zeitgeist' by a KZbinr Neo Human Eve - it's entertaining, informative and eye-opening; kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3TUY6qYbrCcoaM

People, just get it into your thick skulls: if you're eating meat, you make yourself sick, obese and shorten your life. The last moment of that slaughtered animal is utter fear and horror and that's exactly what you're injecting into your body: fear and horror. Because that energy doesn't go anywhere. You become a fearful sheep yourself. Even if you don't care about the animals, they make the animals live a horrible life so that then they can make you sick with it in tern and send you off to the hospital with a huge bill. It's clear as day. If you're eating meat in 2018, you're an uneducated cave man.

Thank you Natalie for speaking up for animals and investing your money in a compassionate cause for a kinder earth 💚I’ve been ovo-lacto vegetarian all my life and vegan since the past 4 years. Honestly, I wish I was born vegan because I haven’t felt better both physically and emotionally! Motherhood made me go vegan because I learned about the horrors of how animals and their babies are treated in the diary industry, slaughter houses, and factory farms. I understand that food habits and especially when rooted in culture and tradition are hard to change however we can make small changes everyday to be kinder beings and reduce suffering for animals and destruction of our planet.

Agree. *_Something_* didn't die to put meat on your plate, *_someone_* did. Pigs, chickens, cattle, even fish are sentient individuals with their own unique personalities, as anybody who has owned more than one pet can personally attest to. Even my neighbors big Koi (fish) are individuals. One will come half out of the water and eat from your hand while most come right to the water's edge, but shy away if you get too close and a few stay out in the deeper water and only come to the surface once you throw food in.
@Pinkoflove36 жыл бұрын
Just because it has no voice doesn’t mean we can eat it. Notice how they don’t sell dog and cat. That’s because we would have a fit over it. Why do we stop there? Why do we have a bond only with dog and cat. Would ppl still eat animals if they had a voice? No

I like meat however i get her point of view, but 2 things. Firstly, is Natalie aware of the price of the "Substitutes" she suggest? We don't have millions and a disposable income for food. Vast majority of Americans need a meal to cost 5-8 USD per person. Secondly, what if anything is being suggested to do to fix the problem and the corporate structure and bringing back the salt of the earth farmers. Im all ears for any suggestion to make real change and bring them back...you can't fight greed. And im not hearing how either. Still good for her bring it to our attention, but solutions need to be realistic.

Well its just supply and demand and the salt of the earth farmers are coming back you can see with farmers markets, local produce, and small urban communal farms getting hip. We are starting produce farms in food deserts now. A lot of young people are interested in produce farming. You can see that if you look up WWOOFing. Everything that is small scale is what is coming into style and people are becoming much choosier consumers. the future is bright. Just the other day I went to a local pizza place and the server procided to tell me what local farm each ingredient came from lol! We just need to keep going to all these places I mentioned. Idk if you have Kroger where you live but that is the main big chain grocery store where I am and some of theyre produce is from local and small scale farms. That is the or a solution. A step in the right direction. Its on us.
@jesss37256 жыл бұрын
I wish people would just think about the facts around animal farming and the consumption of meat. Bad farming is the raising of animals in production oriented facilities that are fundamentally inhumane. Raising free ranging animals who have great lives and are raised at great expense to farmers and are then harvested as a return should be okay to most Americans. We are Omnivores. Being human though, it just hurts many of us seeing anything bad happen to any animal. People cry on safaris in Africa watching a prey animal killed by a predator, but that’s JUST NATURE. We are part of nature. There are inhumane farming methods that need to be ended, but c’mon. Humans will and should eat meat. How we raise and treat food animals should be the real issue. Thanks CBS!

This has been going on for over 40 years, factory farming. Support small local farms. Some of the vegan alternatives are not as environmentally friendly as they seem. Local food is best for the environment hands down.
@nematoaddd6 жыл бұрын

@papparocket6 жыл бұрын
A veggie burger will always have a *far far* lower environmental impact than a beef burger, even one from a small farm. So vegan alternatives will always be the more environmentally responsible choice than any animal product.
@dvdgalutube6 жыл бұрын
papparocket I disagree. I think buying the latest smart phones/electronics, using plastic bags, using sunscreens that contain oxybenzone that kills corals, etc.. are far worse than meat industries. Ooh and not all farms are evils. Please focus on big food industries who have lobbyists and donate to government officials, not local clean farms and people who choose to eat meat.
@papparocket6 жыл бұрын
Interesting rationalization. So you eat meat because it isn't as bad for the environment as plastic bags, etc. I fail to see how the environmental impacts of non-food items has any impact on which food items have greater or less environmental impact. My comment only discussed a comparison of environmental harms between plant and animal foods and that for a given number of calories animal derived foods will always have a greater impact on the environment. After all it is simple physics. Cattle for example have about a 20:1 ratio between calories consumed and calories of beef on your plate (even from the local "clean" farms since this is a basic part of bovine physiology) while plant foods have about a 1:1 ratio since you are eating the plants directly. Of course it isn't that simple. Some plant foods are more energy and resource intensive than the plants that are fed to animals, and so the ratio of resource utilization isn't always the same as the ratio of the calories. Also cattle has about the lowest conversion of feed to muscle. Other animals such as chickens have closer to 10:1. But from an environmental impact perspective all animal foods will require more food calories to a put a calorie on your plate regardless of how they are raised than plant foods.

I am an animal lover. I am also aware how animals are abused and mistreated in these factories, and I would love to stay off meat, but not everybody can do that... I have tendency toward anemia, low iron, and there is no plant that can put me back on my feet when I feel exhausted and foggy. Only beef can do the job. The improvement is instant. Spinach, broccoli, and other iron reach foods are useless in this instance. I know meat is very acidic, but it is also strengthening, warming and grounding. It is especially helpful to eat meat during cold seasons, because it warms up your body. I wish I could stop eating meat, but at this point in my life I can't.

Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes. ''

ummmm well actually you need to learn to read,, it says a vegetarian diet is appropriate, not vegan, it says a vegan can be healthy.. maybe learn to read you all do this without knowing how to understand what you are saying, second this is a position about vegetarians not vegans... not science a position you cannot get essentials on a vegan diet no matter how you want it to happen, it is physically impossible proper for all ages, i guess it is proper for numerous babies who died as a vegan , yup proper to them, proper to the countless ones with heart attacks, and cancers, yup worked for steve jobs , up till the day he died.. yup pregnancy with no A, which the baby needs, there is no A in any plant in the entire world, pregnancy has to have A which vegans do not get,yup appropriate sure damaging your baby, dang that is smart yup appropriate if you want to damage yourself

And time for the existence of our planet as we know it is running out. It is possible to make the change individually which then will collectively create the bigger change for all of us, animals, to have a planet to exist and thrive on. It is great that an Israeli national is doing the narration for this documentary on meat, because the long, boring, animal sacrifice regulations in the bible and it's concept is so misunderstood. It actually was less religious ritual and more about conserving meat, that to take an animals life even for food should be a thoughtful and sacred process.
