One time when I went to France , a French friend was surprise by how well I repeated some phrases they taught me so I guess I said them correctly. At least I knew other French people could understand what I said because after I said it they would start rambling off fast replies to me, too fast so I would have to ask them to write them down instead so I could take my time and read them. Beautiful accent. My One French friend though said all Americans expect French people to sound like Louis Jorden (old time actor) - he did though ! I asked him to do an American accent once and it sounded really funny- extreme, but I think he was doing it on purpose. She does a great American accent.
