When I reorganized under the sink I got peel and stick floor tiles at the dollar store and installed them. I can clean under the sink so much easier than before and if there’s a spill or a water leak nothing is ruined.🌼

Yes I too prefer less single use products and more multipurpose products. My most commonly used product is watered down dish soap in a spray bottle. I use that on everything!
@tracybzowy24864 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's what I use for cleaning, dish soap and water jn a spray bottle. I use rubbing alcohol for disinfecting. And a few other things occasionally if needed, like vinegar or baking soda. Soap and water pretty much does it all.
@tiegansmith20024 жыл бұрын
I was raised on using a different spray for every single thing, now I just use a multi purpose or an anti bacterial depending one what I buy. Will never understand the need to own tens of products when one or two will work for everything
@sinkintostillness4 жыл бұрын
The two things that work for me in keeping the house functioning are: 1. never leave a room empty handed 2. Put it back right away after use, if it has a home make sure it returns there. As we're talking minimalism I have been reducing down the cleaning products too. You simply don't need 100's of different things. And some of the chemicals out there are horrible anyway. Choose your favourites and avoid the fad items.
@reginaeudy92494 жыл бұрын
These same things have been game changers for me too! I've finally figured out the cleaning products I like but I'm trying to periodically use some of my old products so I can use them up. It's great to see space opening up as I can get rid of some of the old products.

I’m so stoked for this one! I’m going through a “phase 2” declutter of my house and I’m shocked at how many more things I’m able to get rid of! Granted, I did my first whole house declutter almost a year ago, I’m still shocked at how many things I kept and how much we have accumulated since then. It’s definitely an ongoing process 😊

Of course this quarantine time has allowed the world time to really get it together. I ended a long relationship and my ex loved keeping electronics. He would always say, "I know someone that can fix that". And of course it never made it to the repair shop. So now im getting rid of a broken and very old(2011) laptop, broken hoverboard, broken lawnmower, broken mini motorcycle, and broken bose mini soundbar. Cant wait to see it go.

When everyone was busy decluttering during the stay at home order, I was in a funk and barely keeping my head above water in a totally disorganized school district while doing distance learning with an ese child. We just got notice that we are doing distance learning in the fall, but the time gods have given me an extra 3 weeks to get my cr** together!:) now I have 4 weeks and 3 days to organize my whole house so I can make room for a school room and we can be here all day long without clutter!! Me too. I’m discovering that for me a lot of my clutter and disorder is from trying to have too many different items for every possible occasion or possible need. If I needed it once and didn’t have it, I’m compelled to have a LOT of it so that never happens again. I feel like there’s probably a name for that kind of thinking. It’s hard to balance between too many and too few.

I would venture to say we almost never get it right the first time we declutter! I think decluttering is like a muscle or a sport. You have to practice judging what you actually need. After you clear out the first layer of clutter, you can see much more clearly what's left, too. I must be on my fourth pass now and it's still so satisfying when I decide to let go of a decorative item, a sweater, or a kitchen utensil. 😊

Decluttering has become one of my favorite things! Since entering the minimalism journey a year ago our lives have become stress free and simple! I always new the clutter caused me anxiety at home but I didn’t realize how much! Now our family is at a point where a clean tidy home takes minutes a day! I however still enjoy the small amounts of purging that needs to be done on a regular basis! Your doing such a great job and I enjoy watching your journey!

Your videos are so real and inspiring!

Great Natalie ! Decluttering is like showering, vacuuming, dusting; recurring processes ! But it gets easier over time because we get better at it and we have less stuff. I’m a fan of lazy Susans or turntables with sides under my sink and actually in many places in my house, and I use acrylic self adhesive rectangle holders on the inside of sink cabinet doors to hold wraps, bags, sponges, magic erasers, etc.

I rarely watch a video and declutter the same space but decided to follow your lead on the master bathroom. I did the mirror, and all the vanity that was my or shared stuff. Managed to get rid of a three drawer storage thing and a bunch of random stuff. I have a few things I’ve decided if I don’t use in the next two weeks I’ll get rid of at that time. I had so much I couldn’t see what was in there. Much better now! Thanks for your inspiration and how real you are with decluttering.

For the bathroom I have a product that changed my life- over the door organizer. My favorite is from Ikea and spans the entire door with 6 baskets. I have each one for a different category. Haircare, skincare, makeup- it will store it all and will be neatly tucked behind the door.
@rebeccarendle37064 жыл бұрын
So true.. You have to go back several times.. Some areas I have done 4x.. Decluttering is continous.. Also once decluttered.. You need to live with things and readjust after a while.. And your taste develops and changes with decluttering and living more minimalist... But each time becomes easier.. Due to less stuff and knowing what you really use and need!... Great that you brought this up!
@laraharding8494 жыл бұрын
I love the idea of building several passes into decluttering. The Minimal Mom calls it the Onion Method. It takes the pressure off. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the mirror makes stuff look like twice as much. For that reason, I think a slim, closed cabinet with sliding doors would make that look so much neater. I love your little shelves. I think they call out to be on the wall behind you above the towel rail, with just a couple of desert themed things on to simplify the number of objects on view, calling for your attention. 🌵🦎 🏜 remember plants need sunlight to be happy.

You are so right organising is never a one and done thing. We change, our stage of life changes and there is a constant shuffle of things coming in and out of our lives that means re-evaluating our spaces is an ever-evolving process. The green plants are the best part 🌳🌵🌱🍍

🍍 Natalie, thank you for your honesty don’t be embarrassed. Thank you for doing these videos of revisiting. This is how de cluttering and organizing is, it’s constant. We are coming into a new phase, empty nesters, but not in the usual way. We have been the “storage unit” for out son and daughter. And have been happy to help with this as our parents did for us. Now our son has returned to Mexico after living for five years abroad and has removed all their stored things just in time to make more room for our daughter to accumulate furniture and boxes of household goods that she hopes will be moved into her new apartment in the next two weeks. SO...Mama Donna can’t wait to start tackling every room in our house and the office and large storage room in an adjoining building. It will have to be a slow process due to some health challenges, but watching your videos is gearing me up for the monumental task which I intend to thoroughly enjoy. Thanks for all your practical tips and your encouragement.

For my hair ties, I keep them in a little container like you're doing but I also keep them all on a binder ring, or a carabiner, so I end up pulling them all out then pull one off the ring. I found if I was trying to pull out out before the binder ring I ended up pulling multiple out of the container at once and spilling them.

@Jayzie004 жыл бұрын
For under the kitchen sink, you could attach or hang an organizer on the cabinet door for all your wraps and sandwich baggies. They would then stand upright and be easier to grab. Search “cabinet door organizer” and you’ll find tons of options. Same for your spray bottles. If you want to have more of them handy you can attach a dowel or towel holder with a rod so multiple bottles can hang from it. If you own there’s versions to drill in or if you rent there’s versions that hang over the door. There are so many great organizers nowadays that don’t break the bank

We store wraps/bags in wire storage racks attached to the inside of both doors under the kitchen sink. It’s taken a few passes to peel back another layer and perhaps get more real with myself about what we really use. I still revisit areas for maintenance.
@sethellenmayo38934 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Minimalism is a journey that you keep going back and tweaking and re-decluttering, etc. It also changes in differnt seasin of life. I started our minimising journey about 6 years ago and it is way better than it was before and we've made real progress. But things come in so often that need 'gatekeeping' or maintenance. You get more skilked at it and I find i do it more regularly as partvof my routine and then it isn't such a major job :-)

It's nice to see how things are organized and how you got rid of a LOT of stuff. It's very motivational. The big realization for me is avoid Costco and avoid bulk shopping. It occupies a lot of my space. I also will stop buying in bulk just because it's on sale. The last purchase I did was a 3 wick candle in 3 different scents. Just realized, I didn't need to buy 3 but just one, finish it, then buy again. Noticed also that this sale "event" happens all the time. In conclusion, I think the less stuff you own, the less you need to organize. After watching this, I decided to start decluttering but more towards minimalism. Trying my best not to have a duplicate of antything. Just a set for a family of 4. If I need to entertain, I will just run to a dollar store to buy a few party plates and silverware. The biggest challenge is to convince ourselves that you don't need to fill an empty space all the time. Thanks for the tips and more power to your channel!

I don't remember who said it but I've heard that you should declutter and reorganize a space as many times in a year as you touch it in a day. So if you go into your pantry let's say 3 times a day, you'd declutter abs reorganize it at least 3 times a year. I personally think that's a really good motto to help you your spaces looking clean and being functional most if not all of the time

Instead of saving it for the next house, because we're looking to buy, I just gave it away. I also buy the refills so this cuts down on plastic bottles that need to be thrown away. I also have the mesh drawers because of limited space under my sink. In the bathroom, have you thought about investing in a larger over the toilet cabinet? I cannot tolerate acrylic makeup organizers on top of the cabinet. I bought a professional makeup bag from Amazon and store it next to my dresser in the bedroom. However, I use acrylic makeup organizers to be stored in the cabinet over the toilet for my husband and I to store toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, razors, skin care, etc. I pull my organizer out when I’m getting ready for the day.

Love this video! It's so true that you have to keep revisiting areas in our houses, even if we have already organized them. What is the wall color in your bathroom? It's gorgeous. 😊
