You have changed my life the past year and I appreciate it more than I can ever adequately express. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. One of the changes that I have made already in 2021 is to unsubscribe to about 90% of the “beauty and fashion” channels that I used to follow who were constantly encouraging the endless purchase of makeup hauls, skincare hauls, fashion hauls, shoe hauls, etc. I didn’t unsubscribe in a hateful way at all, but solely to help me continue to change my mindset to a healthier place because I found myself having a hard time trying to live the minimalistic life that I was dying to live when I was constantly being bombarded with new “content” encouraging more and more consumerism. Thankfully, I found your channel January of last year along with Dawn from The Minimal Mom and the two of you have helped me make some major changes to my life. Thank you so much. Happy New Year to you and your family.

I know what you mean. Since I started watching her videos I changed in a very good way I am much more intentional about what I buy and how much I buy. I also started my decluttering journey. Because I am a student and live at home with my mother I could not just throw things away that I thought were not used our unnecessary so I had to include my mum and try to encourage her to declutter to which is still a struggle but at least she sometimes gets rid of some small pieces. and I am so proud of her when she does.

I went back to school shopping with my 15 year old daughter this morning here in Australia, we only bought what was needed and she wanted a corkboard to go over her desk, we walked around with it for a while and then she said "mum, I don't think I'll get it, I probably won't use it!". She is slowly coming around in regards to intentional purchasing. We felt so so good, walking out and saving money on things we didn't need to buy, not cluttering the house more, and feeling like we are in control and not impulse buying. This was a great video Natalie!.

I’m greatly influenced by color in my wardrobe. My year-round basics are gray, black, leopard, and blue denim. In spring I add blush pink and tan. Summer, red. Fall, olive and camel. Winter, burgundy. It keeps things fresh and easy to store. Plus, I can bypass like 98% of the offerings around me, then realize I have enough and turn down the 2% that is tempting to me.

So informative! That is so true about being more intentional because nothing is worse than buying a clothing item and having nothing to go with it. So many times in my life I have bought a top thinking it would go with a skirt or pants that I have and it doesn't so it just hangs in the closet, taking up valuable space. You have such a lovely way about you!

Thank you for your motivation. The thing that I learned from decluttering my closet is that I got rid of so many fancy style clothes, then I kept the basic color and basic style clothes. Women would just rewear the same outfit throughout the week. It’s so refreshing to me. Plus, you don’t just wash your clothes after each wear, so your clothes get more mileage.

I don't even think about my clothes and just throw on hoodies or flannels. While I don't think I'm gonna give up my leggings and nursing tank tops as my staple items, I'm going to work on tops, shoes, and accessories that will jazz up my wardrobe, without breaking the bank. I used to put emphasis on quantity over quality in my early 20s. I was in college and I could only afford fast fashion clothes. I did take good care of them though, I kept some items from Forever 21 (maybe 6-7 years old) until last year. I wear a lot of sweaters during colder months and I realized that I just need different blouses to layer them with. I once wore 3 different sweaters with the same blouse as layering (sometimes I show the sleeves, sometimes I show the collar and sometimes I tie/hide the bow) and the same pair of pants 3 days straight. Since the outfits gave different vibes, my co-workers all think I have a lot of clothes. It was really fun to be creative with what I have :D

Natalie, this was the best video on clutter free wardrobe! I do like having a winter/summer seasonal "capsule" wardrobe, because where I live the summers and winters are dramatically differently so I can't wear the same clothes in each season. But I really associated with everything you said about buying duplicates in a shirt you like or buying anything that remotely fit. I had my colors done (online and it was FREE), and also got real about my body type, and it really helps me to avoid a lot of the fashion “donts” that turn into clutter. I’ve been guilty of the excessive multiples issue with T shirts. I managed to find a fit of jeans that looks and feels amazing, and that is my fit, period...I have four pairs: black, medium, light, and distressed. I have two pairs of neutral yoga pants/leggings. I also have I thought about the types of sweaters and shirts I buy, and allow myself ONLY items that go with at least 3-4 items in my wardrobe. You’re 100% correct about the price, that it’s possible to find good staple pieces without spending a ton of money. I’ve scaled back my makeup, and stick with neutrals, with an occasional pop of color. Some of my extra makeup was passed on to my teenage daughter, who definitely uses it. THANK YOU for digging deeper on *how* you’re intentional about what you own. It really helps on this journey, and my goal is to get to where you are within the next several months!

I knew a very sweet seamstress my senior year and I saved up money so she could make me a dress for prom/graduation. I had only planned on wearing it to those 2 events, but there were some other little get togethers around the same time that I decided to wear it a few more times. I did have a classmate point it out and she asked "are you just going to wear that dress for every event?" And I said yes proudly! I wasn't well off like them! I didn't have a ton of dresses to choose from. But I worked hard to buy my one of a kind dress. I still keep it in my closet to this day. It doesn't fit so well now, and I'm happy I wore it quite a few times before I couldn't anymore!

Great video! I love the one-in-one-out rule. I’ve gotten so used to this rule that if I’m in the store and see something I really like enough to try it on I think then and there what I want to get rid of. If I’m standing there and think ‘Oh! I can get rid of that blue shirt that isn’t very comfortable and is a pain to iron!’... that’s now the ‘ah, hah’ moment for me. Then if the new item doesn’t even work out - I still move the item in my closet along when I get home. Clearly it’s not working if I’m subconsciously looking forward to getting rid of it.

I finally got to the point of realization that if others are watching what I am wearing often, that is on them. It is baggage from my High School time when the teacher had us observe a person and write notes and the person wrote that I was wearing the same shirt often. She was gracious and said "well if that is what she likes". So, for the longest time, I didn't want to repeat the same outfit too frequently.

Your videos have really been helping me. I'm a hoarder. Not like the TV show, but I have a really hard time throwing things away. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2012 and I lost everything. I was left with some cognitive difficulties from my brain surgery and short term memory issues so I haven't been able to return to full time work. And I'm a single mom of a son who was only 6 at the time. I have taken a good look at myself and realized that my hoarding comes from fear of not having something that I or my son needs because I have struggled financially since my diagnosis. I'm currently planning an out of state move and I am committed to purging the majority of the stuff that I can't let go of. I'm always stressed out because it's so cluttered and it gets out of hand really quickly and I don't have the energy to deep clean the way I used to.

I am 6 months postpartum and have been able to purchase new pieces for my current body. I encourage all you postpartum mamas to do that for yourself. Don't beat yourself up if you can't get back into your pre-pregnancy clothes right away! For some people it takes months, but for others, it may take years OR you may never be able to wear those jeans again, lol. Thats okay! Don't punish yourself by keeping that stuff in your closet to look at everyday. I kept a bin of a few of my absolute favorite pre-pregnancy pieces just in case, especially since I am only 6 months out. I keep it up in the attic and don't think about it. I will probably go through it again a year from now and get rid of most of it if I still can't fit into it. No big deal. I have so much more self confidence now because I went and got clothes that fit me NOW that I love.
@victoria96633 жыл бұрын
As someone whose weight has fluctuated a lot over two pregnancies and illnesses, I love looser tops and leggings, and thrifted clothing. I have been able to fit into the same exact leggings even when I cycled through many different sizes in *jeans*. I have also been able to wear the same shirts through a lot of different weights because they were loose by design. Sometimes the shirts looked a little more snug, and sometimes they were more roomy but they looked good no matter what. Also, I used to buy all my clothes new-on-sale, but since my size has changed so much over the past few years I now buy almost exclusively from the thrift store. It makes it much easier to go buy a couple new pairs of jeans when they are $4 a piece instead of $40 a piece. Also I know I'm not adding to any clothing waste if the jeans stop fitting in the future, so it is very easy to let them go and donate them back to the thrift store! No need to hold on to clothing in lots of sizes (although like you, I do keep a few pieces that I love because chances are that I can fit into them again sometime).

ok, now I need to declutter my socks ;-) I love your wardrobe-color . I'm a green-lover person. So my little 'black' dress is always green. Thanks for sharing and stay healthy !

The great thing is some clothing items you can switch up left and right and it would never matter like jeans, shoes, other accessories like eating I wear the same 5 and switch around with outfits, when it’s chilly scarves 🧣 too. And cardigans with different undershirts. Also Leggings!!!!

When you keep something that was an expensive “lemon” it hurts more to have to look at it every time you are going to get dressed....a constant reminder of the mistake. I’d rather it be gone from my life.

Can you do a video on transitioning into maternity clothes without getting a ton new/maternity clothes?

She got a train table, all the tracks, and the train for her 3 year old who was crazy about trains. It was her Christmas gift for her and cost nothing but was not new and would have been 4 hundred dollars for all of it of she had bought it. She kept it for a year and some other kid got it for free the next Christmas. She is a minialmist and is constantly recycling toys and clothes on this Facebook group. Whenever I get her girls a gift I buy books, art stuff, or something small...the girls are now playing with all the stored Beanie Babies I bought their mom back in the late 90's. They have birthday parties with them and they all have whatever name they have for them. When she gives something away that I bought them she tells me first. I have some things I am keeping for my great grand children!!!

Whoa. The part about how we wear clothes for other people hit home. I have so many trendy outfits that are a one-and-done deal and it's solely for other people to think that I'm fashion forward. Those outfits literally go with nothing else and just sit there. Half of them are from before I had kids and don't even flatter me anymore!

I always thrift! And if I splurge on something I keep it. I do good reselling my clothes so I always make back what I spent (thrifting price). I’m one of those who loves to wear different outfits and not repeat 😁

I do get bored with my tops eventually. But I still keep them a long time. I tend to buy more patterns than solids so that could be a factor.

love this. one of my 2021 goals is to thoroughly evaluate my closet and pare down significantly! especially since I go nowhere as a stay at home mom during a pandemic. haha.

You are so right about shopping with purpose! I used to over buy all the time. I noticed a couple years ago I was wearing the same clothes daily. I purposely tried to wear the things I had not been wearing and quickly realized I didn't like the way they fit or felt or they didn't fit into my lifestyle. I got rid of all those things and only have Items I love. Oh and by the way I also have 2 vaccumes and cannot part with them. One is for quick cleaning and the other for deep cleaning and I need them both!

I have two vaccuums too! If you use it, you don't have to lose it!

I do take thumbs down as constructive feedback! I know sometimes they're just trolls or haters looking to be negative though!

I really appreciate you clarifying more about this minimalist mindset, it’s been difficult to begin but one step at a time. Thank you! I do have a question about collectibles. Do you have any or (if not) what are some tips you have on having collectibles?

Once you remove the mindset of what others think it becomes easier to pare down clothing. my favorite outfit is a pair of jeans and a long or short sleeve henley shirt. I have three of the exact same pair of jeans in the same color and style because I love them, they fit, and they last, and the same shirt in different colors in long and short sleeve (grey, white, black, and green) I've had people comment I always wear the same thing numerous times. It seems to bother them more than me!!!

This last year I have entered my second (and last planned pregnancy) and so I will be working really hard to find things that work for my changing postpartumn body in the next couple months. My plan is to live in leggings for the better part of 3 or 4 months and then do a serious over haul of my closet. I find it really hard though to do one big shop because I find it difficult to find exactly what I want when I go to the store so now I have learned to make a list of the deficiencies in my closet so I can remember what it is I actually need and can look over time. Thanks for the wardrobe goals 😊

I have found that curating a few pieces over time helps me find better, long-lasting pieces in my collection rather than bigger hauls!

I just want to thank you! My way of thinking has changed entirely after watching your entire minimalist series... I catch myself thinking before I purchase anything now... do I really need this? Do I already have this or something like it and honestly 9 times out of ten I don’t purchase it!! My wallet thanks you! 🤑 I thank you! I feel more peace with less clutter! 🧘🏻♀️🙏🏼 💖
