the Dark Phoenix Saga was such an iconic comic, story, probably way too big for one movie, too many characters, too many effects (costs), but it was the emotions, the story that was great. Here's the TEA. Logan going back to the past retconned the existing X-Men Cinematic universe. Making the Dark Phoenix's plots and twist inevitable. Because those twists and turns already happened in the previous cinematic universes but explored thoroughly and within context. These plots were injected to this movie as a consequence of their timeline shifting and rebalancing itself albeit calamitously. That's why its extremely important to take this movies with a grain of salt as it will follow what ever logical explanation even if it is predictable. Yes including the alien D'Bari as they were in comics in the 70's and 80's coinciding with Cap Am and She-Hulk. And they were the perfect plot additives for the Phoenix force and the way Jean got the Phoenix force is the original way she got it based on the comics. In outerspace.

It's funny, Famke and Sophie's Phoenix portrayals almost feel like they belong in each other's movies. In The Last Stand, her Phoenix powers were just incredibly strong and destructive telekinetic abilities that surfaced after years of suppression, while in Dark Phoenix, it's a wholly separate cosmic being of destruction that possessed Jean. So Famke's portrayal of a malevolent and sinister creature taking over Jean would make way more sense with the cosmic entity angle, whereas Sophie's fits the whole "losing control over her powers" thing. It is such a shame that they keep fumbling this storyline though. Inevitably this will be tackled in the MCU I'm sure, I just hope they do it justice.

It's never really explained, so a lot of people likely got confused about the "solar flare", but The Phoenix Force is a cosmic-level entity that is responsible for burning stagnant/dying planets to allow new life to grow in their place. It is (as far as I'm aware) the strongest telepathic/telekinetic being in the cosmos. At it's core, it isn't evil, just a force of nature. It can bond with hosts, supercharging them, and one of Jeans ancestors was a host which is why she is so strong to begin with.
@whoiisnicki
@whoiisnicki 8 ай бұрын
That’s not why she’s strong. She’s strong because she is the most powerful psychic in the universe and also the physical embodiment of the Phoenix if you didn’t know. The Phoenix force is a Multiversal level entity, and even beyond. Its power is second to the creator and is unimaginable by human knowledge. it is a psychic entity on a cosmic scale. It’s the spark that gave life to the universe. The stars, the universe, the sun, every mutant, every being in the cosmos is its children, even the living tribunal bowed down. If the Phoenix dies , space and time would not exist anymore and the universe would fade away for eternity. That’s how powerful it is ❤🎀

It also shares the same themes of false memories and control as Cpt Marvel, and the visual representation of her phoenix powers is pretty similar to CM too. @@wobaguk Her powers originally looked WAAAY better than Captain Marvels (which was shot long before Captain Marvel entered production). They had spent a considerable length of time for that visual effect and it was the most comic accurate depiction of the Phoenix force on film. I wish they could have kept it. It was visually stunning. I did NOT like the changes they made to her phoenix powers for the theatrical cut. Kevin Feige did not want the visual likeness wasted on this movie, so it was "suggested" that the appearance be changed and re-rendered to be a mysterious "cosmic power" rather than the actual Phoenix force of the comics.

The problem is, Jean is so strong even since she's a child and Xavier knew this. What he did to Jean was the best that he knew he could. But then, he shouldn't let Jean clueless forever. That's the idiotic part and I agree with you. He should've known what are the risk if Jean ever found out on her own The problem with this movie is the plot. So messy and with no core. The only good thing I like from it is how the mutant finally use their power without holding back and kill the aliens freely. We can see their true skills. I think those were really cool Anyway, I agree too with what you said about pie and cheese, that's what intelligent people do. We should enjoy things based on the ground it stand. That's partially the reason. The original third act didn't have all the x-men fighting together because of scheduling conflicts as a result of significant abrupt changes made by the studio right before shooting was to begin. So the original cut of the movie was more similar to Captain America Civil War, where you had a much longer battle sequence with the x-men against Magneto's team in the park (just like the airport battle in Civil War) and Jean, Cyclopes, and Professor X in the third act during the skrull invasion sequence at the United Nations (like Captain America, Iron Man, Bucky) before Jean goes off into space to confront the incoming invasion ships. Studio executives wanted that changed to include all the characters together. The problem was that the third act had the largest set piece of the entire x-men franchise. It had been entirely dismantled when they wrapped shooting the year prior. It was too big and too expensive to rebuild to accommodate the executive's changes. It wasn't until a month or so later that they found out Captain Marvel seemed to emulate certain scenes that were previously shot in Dark Phoenix, but because the Fox Studios pushed back the release date....Dark Phoenix was the one who had to change its scenes to make it seem like it wasn't copying Captain Marvel.

The one thing I really liked about this movie is they discarded Magneto’s ridiculous, over-dramatic gestures and showed how positively lethal he could be on the ground. He’s one of my favorite villains in Marvel. As long as we don’t get Ultimate Magneto. He is literally a genocidal megalomaniac who sounds way too much like the Nazis he survived. This Magneto really tries to do the best for his people. “Who’s blood is that?” Gave me chills. But, no, the movies have never done justice to Jean Grey. Or Kitty Pryde, for that matter, who was the original protagonist in Days of Future Past. You know, if Marvel Studios was doing that movie, they’d have used a song from the legendary Moody Blues album of the same name, which probably influenced the title in the first place.

The phoenix saga was such a good story because it portrayed Jean’s slow descent into madness. She was forced to keep her friends from dying while entering the atmosphere, attacked by a herald of galactus, forced to recreate the universe with every bit of her power when it was destroyed, saw her entire team including the love of her life “die”, fought a reality warper to near death, was kidnapped and raped by a member of the hellfire club, and only after ALL that did she finally snap. The reveal of the dark phoenix was a huge surprise, it was like a jumpscare, you heard someone say “you’re all gonna die” off-panel, changed the page and it was Jean saying it. The blackbird explodes, and that’s the beginning of the dark phoenix saga. None of this is shown in the movies. In X2-X3 she just…fixes a damn and in the next movie she’s already crazy. In apocalypse-dark phoenix she just goes crazy for no reason. Kinda? It’s not very well explained. If marvel studios ever decides to do the (dark) phoenix saga, it would have to be a three movie arc: Jean’s regular life, her being the Phoenix, her being corrupted and turning into Dark Phoenix. It can’t all be adapted into one movie.

The Dark Phoenix comics are so good...this story is the second time it's been done as a film and it was still a let down. But the scenes showcasing mutant poweres here were great. Cyclops being useful, Nightcrawler saving the astronauts and with that train kill, Magneto using shrapnel as weapons instead of just dropping landmarks on people. And Jennifer Lawrence getting out of her X-Men contract ASAP with that early death.

The original Dark Phoenix comic story line was so good up until the final seven pages or so when Jim Shooter made some late editorial choices. Chris Claremont then spent a year or two undoing what Shooter had wrought and also helped undo some stuff Shooter had done with The Avengers as well. Good times for a comic fan but there must have been some behind the scenes drama at the Marvel offices at the time...

Interesting fact about MUTANTS in the COMICS: A lot of their powers manifest powerfully when they are kids. So there are a lot of mutant children who accidently kill their friends or family by accident. Like one kid named Kevin gained a "Death Touch" power and everything was dying or rotting away even his clothes. His father came to him and hugged him to comfort him, but he ended up rotting into a corpse in Kevins very own hands. It was stated more recently how Every mutant has PTSD and various psychological Trauma

In regards to the "friends in high places" I think the idea was that their shape-shifting abilities made it easy for them to infiltrate any organization. Nevertheless, it was stupid and poorly executed. My main issue with the X-Men series with the new cast is that I don't care about them. It feels like none of them were ever really introduced, but just thrown in at some point.
@tyrchtemph1881
@tyrchtemph1881 2 жыл бұрын
From what I was told by production crew members, the shape-shifting aliens were meant to be a slight adaptation of the skrull story-line Secret Invasion when Kinberg realized he couldn't do the Shi'ar like he originally planned (written to be two movies featuring the alien Shi'ar empire). That's how it played out in the original Dark Phoenix cut before everything was changed again in the later reshoots. When the two parter got scrapped, studio executives wanted to insert an alien invasion into the story, so Kinberg settled on Skrulls. The aliens were skrulls who infiltrated high positions of the United Nations planning to launch a major invasion attack which would play out in the third act battle similar to Secret Invasion. Then further changes were made as the Disney/Fox acquisition became public. Reshoots were ordered to strip away parts of the film because: 1) it was rumored at the time that Kevin Feige was planning his own Secret Invasion story (which is currently shooting) and the main reason why Skrulls were introduced in Captain Marvel. Therefore, the aliens in Dark Phoenix had to be changed from Skrulls to something else. 2) Studio executives wanted certain changes to the third act (pairing all the x-men together) that couldn't be done in the original cut because the set piece was too big and expensive to re-rebuild. 3) Captain Marvel had 'emulated' certain specific shots from Dark Phoenix ('rumors' were that someone was leaking stuff to Marvel), forcing further changes. The reason why it was poorly executed was because they had no time. They were completely blindsided by the studio and had to make major changes quickly while shooting the movie with no script. The new script was being written while they were shooting.

The Phoenix storyline is one of the most iconic and memorable x-men storylines from the comics back in the 80's and it meant a lot to me. Probably the main reasons I like redheads, to be honest ;) So naturally the story has been brought back many times over the years. The phoenix is a figure of resurrection, so it will always come back. And of cause they brought it into the movies, because whey knew it would draw the fans. Twice, in two different timelines. None of them very successfully. And I think the problem is that you really have to invest a lot of time in a character before them turning bad becomes a great storyline. You want the audience to both really revel in Jeans new godlike powers, but also yearn for the innocent girl you have loved for years to be saved from this destiny. The movies didn't set this up the same way, so it wasn't as effectful. Also a big part of this story is the story of Scott, her lover. In the movies he is portrayed as kind of a jerk, especially in the first series. But in the comics he is the team leader of the x-men (and a very good one at that) and all his main storylines is about the responsibility of leadership. Which makes it that more impactful when he has to watch jean kill herself to save everybody. A part given til Logan i the movies. Scott really got a rotten deal in the movies.

"The women are always saving the men around here" Nightcrawler, Quicksilver and Cyclops did nothing in that space rescue, absolutely nothing. If they didn't go up in space at all then nothing would have changed and they saved none of the women. Even if we discount the other X-men movies, this line was so bad it alone can encompass why I am glad the movie failed. This statement in this very movie was disproven literally less than a minute ago in the last scene. *sarcasm*🤦🏼‍♂️ "Might want to change the name to X-Women" That isn't any more gender neutral than "X-Men" so basically what they are saying is "it is okay for women to do it but not men", get your argument straight fake feminists, is it right or wrong? You don't get to pick and choose. Plus since the men are saving the women at minimum, at worst, just as much as the women save the men, and that was the basis for her argument to change the name then it makes no sense anyway. Can't believe this script was approved. Seriously, all they had to do was actually have the women doing all the work and this scene makes sense but they decide to contradict themselves within minutes of the referenced scene and dialogue takes place. I feel like a 18 year old college intern who wants to be a feminist but knows nothing about the movement nor any actual writing skill wrote this script and if I didn't already write a paragraph I would write out the several other scenes that are just as preposterous. This movie deserved its failure, thank god for international audiences is all these people can say really.

"Why can't we just let her feel her feelings?" Remember _Logan?_ Do you remember what Charles did to his own X-Men because of his dementia? Jean's several times more powerful than Charles. She's said to be the most powerful mutant ever known. The mental blocks were an imperfect solution (to put it mildly) to the dilemma of Jean's immense abilities. If you want to blast Charles for something, blame him for not making Jean's powers his top priority. The commune is supposed to be Genosha Island. After some horrible things happened there in the comics, Magneto turned it into a mutants-only haven. I forget which superhero movie said it, but it was clever: "You either die a hero, or live long enough to become that which you're fighting against." You see the problems with this movie. The things they don't telegraph from a mile away don't make any sense. People blame Simon Kinberg for ruining the X-Men Sure, he may not be a good writer, but that doesn't mean he's a bad filmmaker He's still a great producer It was because of him that we got FIRST CLASS, DEADPOOL and LOGAN And THE MARTIAN too

He was not the problem. Fox knew the merger was coming and pulled resources and made changes. They also heard that the MCU was introducing Skrulls and didn't want to do the same thing so they swapped out the aliens and the final battle. You can tell that Kinberg tried to make this work.

The original plans for this movie before Disney bought Fox. The movie was going to split into two parts and it would've included the skulls, Psylocke, and the Hellfire Club.

Always love your Marvel reactions, Natalie. Also, since you are nearing the end of Marvel movies and MCU. I think you're gonna love the DC movies as well. I mean you already know Batman, and I m guessing you know about Wonder woman and Superman. I highly suggest the DCEU movies, which don't necessary follow MCU's formula of humor, but it allows for more diversity of tones for different movies. Here is the list for them in release date order, if you're interested: Man of Steel Batman v Superman: Dawn of justice ( watch the Ultimate edition) Wonder Woman Suicide Squad Zack Snyder's Justice League Aquaman Shazam Wonder Woman 2 The Suicide Squad. Sending love from India! ✌

Small problem with the release dates, at least here in the US Zack Snyder's Justice League was pretty much the last one on that list to release, with only Suicide Squad 2 releasing after it. the actual release order of the DCEU is: •Man of Steel •Batman v Superman •Suicide Squad •Wonder Woman •Justice League •Aquaman •Shazam •Birds of Prey •Wonder Woman 2 •Zack Snyder's Justice League (which can be argued to be just a super extended directors cut of the original Justice League) Suicide Squad 2 Plus there are other DC movies she should watch as well that aren't part of this Universe like the Christopher Reeves Superman movies and the 90's Batman movies (the Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney ones)

@@thehelldragon314 you may not talk about it, but it still is talked about and like it or not is relevant to watching the DCEU and such, and thus like it or not should be on the list. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it doesn't exist or shouldn't exist or be talked about. It's fine if you don't like the movie, but to not include it on lists and such when it really should be on those lists simply because you don't like it is not the proper way to go about it, like it or not. For future, if you want to do it this way, don't put it in a release order form like you have it now, instead just say "I recommend these movies, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, etc." and just leave it off that, that way it shows your opinion much more, and also at the same time is not actively omitting things that should be on the list. In other words, instead of saying "here is the release order", just say something like "I think the DCEU is a good place to start with DC movies, here are the ones I recommend".

Most X-Men fans know every attempt at the Dark Phoenix saga have been atrocious. But, to be fair, there would need to be a Very liberal association with aliens before the actual saga could be true to the source material. Over all, the First class series was pretty enjoyable. Just, seems like the Dark Phoenix is cursed, and never been done right.

MCU X-Men 1: Team is introduced, Jean dies saving team. MCU X-Men 2: Scott forms relationship with Emma Frost. MCU X-Men 3: Jean returns as Phoenix, turns Dark Phoenix with jealousy (and manipulation, of course), destroys some alien world before dying again (cameo by Guardians of the Galaxy). It *can* be done, it will just take more setup and planning than Fox was willing to give the series. Or I say it “could have been done,” because I think a third try in 20 years would be too much.

"Why don't we let her express her feelings?" *proceeds to kill people and destroy police cars*. Look, this movie is flawed to the bone, but even though Charles messed up, I'm still with him. He always fixed other people's sh!t and mistakes. And after everything he did there was always someone to complain. I never liked Mustique, half the time she was a murderer and a hypocrite and the other half she kept telling Charles he was wrong without having a better plan of her own. So whatever

I applaud your willingness to watch this dreck. Your commitment to your channel is commendable. I still think it’s hilarious they were going to make the aliens skrulls. The skrulls aren’t even an x-men villain. And dark phoenix would imply they should have been the shiar. God that would have been a great thing to build up to. Like an avengers level movie, with the imperial guard and the dark side of the moon. Ugh, such a missed opportunity.

This comment highlights most of the ineptitude of the whole X-Men franchise. They didn't have the patience to build or earn anything, and then they did and re-did a lot of highpoints in a way that doesn't make sense (X2/Origins, X3/Dark Phoenix, Age of Apocalypse...) It would have been interesting to give these movies to James Mangold all the way through instead of Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg.

Three things I thought were legitimately good in this movie: 1) Michael Fassbender as Magento is never a miss 2) The train scene at the end, I thought, was really cool 3) The score. Done by the master Hans Zimmer. He can do no wrong. Other than that it's very mediocre, and not that entertaining. I think Last Stand and Origins: Wolverine are worse made movies, but at least I can watch them with friends and have fun. Dark Phoenix wasn't really fun, and a bit slow until the train scene. I don't think it's horrible, it's not top 5 worst comic book movies, but I haven't seen it since theaters, and don't plan on watching it again unless I do a marathon rewatch.

Why is this movie about Charles just manipulating her? Well. She can destroy the world with her mind And everything he feared comes to pass... This is like the people who say the Jedi council were wrong to forbid Anakin attachments when they were right about everything that could go wrong Never understood those arguments lol, nor people who think Charles is the bad guy in either of the dark Phoenix movies
