I went to see Hans Zimmer in Chicago last month and before he started the Dark Phoenix set, he said, and I’m paraphrasing, “you know when you do an amazing score for a bad movie and are upset because the movie was so bad? And I know it was bad because none of you went to watch it! So let me play something I know you haven’t heard.” 😂 I, however, enjoyed this movie. I know it’s not the best, but I do like the train scene and score. I was just happy to see another X-Men movie. 😅

It has been discussed that this movie had to be heavily re-written and ordered because the Captain Marvel movie was coming out at the same time and there were plot similarities. The shape-changing aliens in Dark Phoenix were supposed to be the Skrulls but they are in CM and the final battle in DP was changed from Phoenix destroying spaceships to a small scale train fight. More interesting still is that the Phoenix in the comics was originally going to be Carol Danvers but Ms. Marvel writer Chris Claremont started writing the All New, All Different X-Men and used the story he had intended for Carol, substituted in Jean Grey.

I really like the fact that Tara enjoyed this so much! As comic book fans we're often burdened by expectations of these movies that are really hard to meet a lot of the time which is why I always just let myself enjoy these movies for what they are. You're a rare smart comic fan. Movie adaptation is a very difficult medium and there are always hundreds of things that can go wrong. And THAT is why I just enjoy these superheroes movies for what they are and this movie is definitely still enjoyable among its glaring flaws

@@takewhatawayi personally dislike this one, and I’ve never read the comic books. There is no correlation there
@takewhatawayАй бұрын
@@gabrielleroux2333Yes there is. People who read comics will have specific reasons and expectation about adaptation. They have more information of the lore and characters. Maybe they even grew up with the comic and have special attachment to it. And you can not say that that will not affect someone's enjoyment of an adaptation. People like you, have different sets of expectations. Maybe just to other superhero movies or whatever personal knowledge that you can relate about this specific movie For example, ive seen a lot of xmen comic readers get pissed about First Class because Darwin died. Because they know specifically what Darwin is capable of. You (and the other non readers) on the other hand, probably wont give a shit because you probably didnt know about it. Etc etc etc etc You cant compare yourself with the comic readers (of this specific franchise/lore/story). Its already a different group to begin with. In his defense, the movie he pitched was a 2 part film with a script already made and approved. Fox, when they began to start shooting, canceled the 2nd film and forced them to scrap their scrip and he(+ the cast), had to work overtime to rewrite the film while in the middle of filming. And initially, their villains were Skrulls, the movie was forced to be pushed back by Fox at the request of the creator of Alita Battle Angel. Captain Marvel came out a month later, revealing skrulls, which forced them to go back and re-do the entire 3rd act and remove all mention of Skrulls. Therefore, he and the cast were f over by Fox and the Disney deal(because their talks with Disney is what made them cancel the 2nd film).

It was already horribly done with X3 but this movie burned average audiences too much to ever trust seeing this saga done properly in live action. It basically never happens; I still remember almost all movies I've ever seen, all the way back to the 80's (yes, I'm old) - it's a blessing and a curse. I saw it at the cinema and thought it was kind of bland. Then when it came out on streaming, I had forgotten that I'd already seen it and thought that maybe I should watch "That new X-Men movie". About 1/4 of the way through, I realize I've already seen it. Then, a couple of months later it happened again. Now I've actually put some memory space aside for remembering that I don't need to watch it, but I still couldn't tell you much about it apart from "race to the big fiery bird" (seriously, they are doing the comic book Dark Phoenix so dirty), even though they'd already shown Jean having that power in Apocalypse.

I feel when they fully recast a new younger version of the X men in the MCU I’d be ok them bringing the actress who played younger Storm. I really thought she was good.

Definitely one of the most underrated movies in the franchise. It gets torn apart by gatekeepers

Because its bad. And all fans know it.

Yeah because it was freaking terrible. Hans Zimmer's music and the third act deserves a much better movie

You also have to understand, Disney bought Fox when they were filming this film. So a lot of the film was heavily edited because it had a lot elements similar to Captain Marvel

I get the idea of where she’s coming from, but if I was Charles who’s paralysed from the waist down and someone told me that I have never sacrificed anything I would become the real villain

This is for Tara. Tamales are not Holy. But fajitas are definitely a religious experience.

I enjoyed this movie on the rewatch 😅 This movie and Captain Marvel came out around the same time and some of the similar story lines caused changes in the story (strong female character imbued with alien superpowers while dealing with memory loss from some traumatic experience).

Im doing my obligatory comment on every X-Men Dark Phoenix reaction I watch: Say what you want about this movie, but the train scene is the only time you can see how ruthless the mutants power can be (Especially from X-men side) and its amazing!

Lotta people trash talk this movie, but I don't think it's that bad, by X-Men movie standards. We were 11 years into the MCU at this point, so the standards for superhero movies, in general, were a lot higher.

They put Mystique’s death on the trailer of the movie 😂

The first time I watched this, it went right over my head that the bad guys were aliens.
