Fun fact: When Joker was sarcastically clapping in his jail cell after Gordon was named commissioner, that was completely made up and wasn't originally part of the script. When Oldman and the other actors looked at him surprised, those were genuine reactions because it caught them all off guard.

I’m ignoring the arguing in this thread to give a verifiable fun fact: Maggie Gyllenhaal saw Heath Ledger in full makeup for the first time during the Dent endorsement party scene, and a lot of her reactions to him are genuine (to the extent that you can parse an actor’s reactions from a character’s reactions).

@@Twizity Not to be a Kelvin, but Christopher Nolan and the special effects supervisor, Chris Corbould, have confirmed multiple times that this isn't true. The scene went exactly according to plan. Now for my own fun fact: The random old man that the Joker grabs in the party at 12:08 is Senator Patrick Leahy, the President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate. Heath Ledger literally put a knife to the face of the man who is third in line for the presidency, lol.

Anyone who knew anything about classic batman would see Harvey Dent and know what was coming eventually. It was kind of cool seeing someone question the coin and not know what was going to become of Dent. I knew it was coming, but I was more surprised at how sympathetic they made Harvey. By not giving him the usual backstory of having deep psychological issues prior to him becoming Two-Face, for me, I think his eventual transformation into Two-Face was far more tragic. He was a dude who legitimately wanted to affect change and protect the person he loves the most, but the circumstances around him drove his decent to madness. As a comic-book fan, the movie made me DREAD his becoming Two-Face, rather than be excited by it.

Harvey's obsession with the coin is a trait shared with his comic book counterpart. The inspiration for Two-Face is the Greek god Janus, who is the god of beginnings and endings and duality. Harvey is constantly torn between the two personalities fighting within his psyche, so he can't make a choice of his own volition - he relies on the coin toss to do that for him, as it's impartial and immutable.
@biznisman7049
@biznisman7049 3 жыл бұрын
He can choose with his free will, if he wants to kill someone, he would say if it is HEAD I shoot you, if its tail you are free to go. Or if he wants to help someone, who askes him for help, he can say Tail I am not helping you, if its HEAD I will help you.......He just has to play two identical side of one coin, so it is not game of chance, it is cheating.... If somebody else say how the toss is gonna go, all he have to do, is "frame his speech" accordingly. He is a trickster, but after losing his half of the face, and angry at batman that he saved him instead of his beloved women, and by doing so he is hateing Batman, that he has to live dissfigured, insted not live at all, and if so she would be alive... PEACE OUT!!
@DementedDistraction
@DementedDistraction 3 жыл бұрын
@@biznisman7049 That's not free will, he's still deferring to the coin. He can always state the terms of the coin flip as that's dependent upon the situation - but it's the coin that always decides the outcome. The comics and other media have shown repeatedly that when Two-Face is deprived of the coin, or the coin toss is interrupted or stopped before the coin falls, he's completely unable to make a decision; and in some examples he can suffer from a complete psychotic breakdown, or be left in a catatonic state as he simply can't cope without the coin to make decisions for him. Two-Face has no will of his own - he's a slave to his hatred and utter dependence upon the impartial judgement of the coin.
@DocuzanQuitomos
@DocuzanQuitomos 3 жыл бұрын
@@biznisman7049 Half true. In this case, the Nolan film takes out some of the context to make his obssession with the coin more grounded in every day life, but it works in general: the main idea they wanted to show is that Dent becomes Two Face due to his inability to cope with recent losses. In the comics, years of trial and error have created a more fleshed motivation: the losses Dent can't cope with take him to a place where his views of the world are shattered (that's also why his personality splits): he once defended the law as the ultimate force defining good and evil. But law allowed this to happen to him... so law must be wrong then. What trully impartial force can replace it? The coin was a gift from his father as a good luck charm and he had used it many times when he had not the strength to make his own choices, so he decides to take this trait to all the aspects of his life, effectively abdicating the act of making a choice (and the responsability for taking it) to leave that power to his particular version of what luck is and how it works. True, Dent/Two-Face still possesses free will to dictate what the coin will mean, but in his mind he is gone to the length of convincing himself luck will always choose fair and straight; no matter how he names the sides, no matter who names the sides, luck is the force always deciding because he is not taking the resposability for it. The fall of Harvey Dent is not that he has gone nuts about what luck means; he has gone nuts about the weight of his own choices and has dragged the concept of what "luck" is along with him. Everthing to not feel pain or responsability for his actions any more. People choose based on biased beliefs; he, as a slave of "luck", can't be biased, can't be convinced and can't be wrong (for luck is always going to decide when he can get what he wants)... The real Harvey Dent understands that, but it's just so painful to be Harvey Dent any more; so Two Face can make it his own way (and this persona doesn't care there is an obvious trick, he was born to be convinced of this obsession).

There's an awesome deleted scene that shows how amazingly Heath Ledger played his character. When the hospital blows up that was a practical effect, and it was only going to happen once. They had a camera on Heath as the Joker was in the bus driving away and he didn't even glance at the hospital. Crazy levels of dedication.

Really impressed you caught his eye movements in those monologues. He does that in some scenes, and in others he doesn't. Shifting eyes are a sign of lying, at least when they shift to the side. When they shift to the sides, it's usually a sign the person is currently trying to make up a lie, and when they shift upward, it's usually a sign they're being honest, since they're essentially looking "within their own mind". Notice how Joker's eyes shifted to the sides several times during his origin monologues and rarely went upward, then try and pick out the times throughout the movie they did go upward.

Her reaction when Gordon was revealed to be still alive was hysterical. It was also very interesting to see someone who doesn't know anything about the Batman mythos. I'm glad she got the movie and appreciated it. This is not just one of the best comic book movies ever but one of the best movies overall of all time. Btw, if you don't know by now, two-face's damaged face was done by CGI because Christopher Nolan (the director) didn't like how prosthetic make up added to the actor's face. CGI was the only way they could take away from his face (besides maiming the actor's face for real, but I'm sure that wasn't an option. lol)

When the Joker exposed to the two ferries that they had to blow up the other one if they want to live, my first thought was that, like for Harvey and Rachel, he lied, switching the adresses, i.e. the detonators weren't those from the other ferry, but the very one of the ferry they are on, so that if someone pressed the button he killed himself (and obviously, passengers of the other one, which have done nothing, would have been accused of mass murder).

The address for Harvey and Rachel, Joker actually did not lied, but he tricked Batman. "Killing is making a choice" > meaning Batman have to choose who to kill. I LOVE that reaction from Joker when Gamble calls him "crazy" when he walks in on their meeting. He's just being carefree and his usual Joker self, but when Gamble calls him crazy, he looks Gamble right in the eyes and he's dead serious "I'm not. NO I'm not" And I love THIS version for this because he's NOT someone that should be locked up in an asylum because there's NOTHING psychologically wrong with him. He chooses to act this way. THIS is the first Joker to ever NOT be clinically insane. ALL others have emotional/psychological breaks from reality, so they are actually - possibly - redeemable. This one isn't redeemable; he can't be rehabilitated because he's not crazy. Being called crazy is the ONE THING guaranteed to piss him off. And his momentary acknowledgement to Gamble and looking right at him shows it as his "character" slips for one second.

Actually, that didn't make me laugh. I don't find it funny. If anything I probably find it beautiful. I think that that is exactly the emotional reaction this movie wants you to have. It wants you to go from "No you MASS-MURDERER! Someone kill him!" to "I wish I could be that good of a person." in 10 seconds or less. From a certain perspective, that prisoner is at least as much of a hero as anyone else in this movie. No matter what else he's done, no matter why he's in prison, no matter how many other people he's hurt, that one moment makes him at least as much of a hero as anyone else in this film. To me at least. And for the rest of his life no one and nothing is ever going to be able to take that from him. If I am ever unfortunate enough to be in a crunch situation anywhere near that bad I can only hope that I'll be anywhere near good enough to be like that. It might be the most beautiful moment in the whole movie. On a purely emotional level at least. Yet with all that said, I can see the humor. I'm just more likely to be crying than laughing.

That massive semi that they flipped actually happened, the only CGI in the scene was removing the "jig" that flipped the semi. You can see the footage on KZbin from bts, it's really incredible. Everyone and their K9 were asking this question when the movie came out, and no one really paid much attention. The reason Batman uses his Batman voice in front of those who know who he is is because someone could wander in. He has to disguise it around everyone, even when he thinks he's alone with someone he knows and trusts. It's logical. If he changes back to his normal voice, and someone is spying, they'll figure it out. Also, some have claimed the costume's cowl/mask has a voice modulator...

The dark knight has a great way of portraying the joker and Batman: The joker tries to prove that at everyone’s core, they are just as chaotic and brutal as he is; The Batman tries to prove that at everyone’s core, they are just as heroic and full of morality than he is. It is amazing seeing how much they go back and forth due to both of their own beliefs in these concepts.

Some people believe “Mr. Reece” (That guy who tried blackmailing Lucius and Bruce with proof Bruce is Batman) was supposed to a teaser for Riddler to appear somewhere in the films because of you say “Mr. Reece” right it sounds like “Mysteries” and that’s not too far off from the type of name games they pulled for Edward Nygma (Riddler) because that can make his name E.Nygma (Enigma)

That's one of the major reasons I prefer the Nolan series over the Burton series of Batman. Nolan used Chicago as the background for the city. It gave a much more grounded atmosphere and got away from the, if you'll excuse the expression, Gothic look and feel of the Burton movies, which were quite over the top, especially towards the end.
