Lyrics
My skin is like a map
Of where my heart has been
And I can't hide the marks
But it's not a negative thing
So I let down my guard
Drop my defences down by my clothes
I'm learning to fall
With no safety net to cushion the blow
I bruise easily
So be gentle when you handle me
There's a mark you leave
Like a love heart carved on a tree
I bruise easily
Can't scratch the surface
Without moving me underneath
I bruise easily
I bruise easily
I found your fingerprints
On a glass of wine
Do you know you're leaving them
All over this heart of mine too
But if I never take this leap of faith
I'll never know
So I'm learning to fall
With no safety net to cushion the blow
I bruise easily
So be gentle when you handle me
There's a mark you leave
Like a love heart carved on a tree
I bruise easily
Can't scratch the surface
Without moving me underneath
I bruise easily
I bruise easily
Anyone who can touch you
Can hurt you or heal you
Anyone who can reach you
Can love you or leave you
So be gentle...
I bruise easily
So be gentle when you handle me
There's a mark you leave
Like a love heart carved on a tree
I bruise easily
Can't scratch the surface
Without moving me underneath
I bruise easily
I bruise easily
I bruise easily
I bruise easily

The imagery in this video is amazing. It's showing a woman who has masked her emotions, because she's been hurt one too many times. And she's now taking that mask off and showing her true self, even though she may get hurt, she's happier now and nothing will take that from her.

I have to agree about the Geisha look, it shows how she's hiding herself from being hurt again but maybe also how much she has opened her heart for the person she loved (friend or lover) trying to be the best for that person. One of the better videoclips...it shows that there's no need for outrageous outfits or special effects..this is so much more down to earth and real. And right now i'm not even talking about the song. Amazing lyrics sung by one of the greater artists!

Everyone sees something differently in this video. What I saw was a woman wearing a disguised heart towards the one that loves her, cautious of the damage that could be done to it. Eventually, she pulls a way the layers and shows her true self, despite the chances of severe pain and scarring.

I see that she took her 'safety net' off and started to face the world :). She used to be frightened to show who she was, and faked her feelings, opinions, etc. Then, the stopped caring and took the 'safety net' off to show who she really was and how the really felt.

Oh...yeah My skin is like a map, where my heart has been And I can`t hide the marks, but it`s not a negative thing So I lay down my guard, drop my defenses, down by my clothes I`m learning to fall, with no safety net, to cushion the blow I bruise easily, so be gentle when you hande me There`s a mark you leave, like a love heart carved on a tree I bruise easily, can`t scratch the surface without moving me Underneath I bruise easily, I bruise easily I found your finger prints on a glass of wine Do your know ur leaving them all over this heart of mine too If I never take this leap of faith I`ll never know So I`m learining to fall with no safety net to cushion the blow I bruise easily, so be gentle when you hande me There`s a mark you leave, like a love heart carved on a tree I bruise easily, can`t scratch the surface without moving me Underneath I bruise easily, I bruise easily Anyone who, can touch you, can hurt you, or heal you Anyone who, can reach you, can love you, or leave you So be gentle So be gentle So be gentle So be gentle I bruise easily, so be gentle when you handle me There`s a mark you leave, like a love heart carved on a tree I bruise easily, can`t scratch the surface without moving me Underneath I bruise easily, I bruise easily I bruise easily, so be gentle when you hande me There`s a mark you leave, like a love heart carved on a tree I bruise easily, can`t scratch the surface without moving me Underneath I bruise easily, I bruise easily I bruise easily I bruise easily

To those who are saying it's racist that she is dressing up as a geisha are downright stupid. There is nothing wrong with expressing something through another culture. Just because she isn't in total western attire in that scene doesn't mean that she is racist. It would be considered intensely racist is she was asian and dressed up in a fancy European dress and someone said that she shouldn't dress like that due to it being offensive. Having another culture influence how you may dress/look is not racist. That's how a geisha looks whether you like it or not.

Yeah agreed its only cultural appropriation once she says I came up with that look myself from the top of my head no connection to any culture what's so ever .Showing appreciation for other cultures is not racist.
