Such sick individuals should never be permitted access to firearms, or ever be in a situation where they might possibly have power over others. (A report was released last year regarding harassment, bullying, sexual assault, and discrimination in the Irish army.)

Congrats on speaking out. We shouldn’t lose faith in humanity, we should lose faith in the judiciary, the army, the patriarchy/ establishment. This is why diverse representation and gender equality matters in the judiciary and other spaces. The perpetrator’s militarily role should have been an aggravating factor, not a reason to suspend a sentence in my opinion and he should never be allowed to work for the Irish state again - they said zero tolerance to gender based violence and that should mean something.
