Natasha didn't know what was happening to her when she contracted viral meningitis. She thought it was probably a very bad viral infection but dismissed the warning signs of headache, stiff neck and sensitivity to light as she had never heard of an adult getting meningitis.

My husband contracted this when he was 11. His mom went to wake him up for the doctor appointment she'd scheduled (she thought he had the flu) and she couldn't wake him. He ended up in a coma for 3 weeks. The doctors said they wanted to turn off his life support, his mother had his last rites performed. They said even if he did wake up he'd be a vegetable, and would never be himself again. The morning they were going to turn everything off he woke up, sat straight up and ripped his tubes out of his throat. Then he called his best friend. The fact he could remember the phone number, let alone speak, completely amazed everyone. He walked out of the hospital 4 days later like nothing happened. Completely wild. I'm glad this lady ended up ok too❤️

Im scared I might be having symptoms of meningitis. I want to go to the hospital but it’s so expensive especially with no insurance. I only have neck pain. Like only on the left side and I’m nervous to take that as a symptom. I did pop my neck like a couple weeks ago and I’ve never popped my neck in my life so hopefully I dislocated it. I also lean my back and neck against the wall when I’m playing games so maybe it’s just a strained muscle? I get like small head aches though so it’s so confusing.

Dont get menengitis in America, the level of incompetence here is disgusting. It went undiagnosed and untreated . I felt everything she described except for the sezuires. I did however develop a rash on my left hand. Its been over a year. Still have a light sensitivity and tinnutis in my left ear.

i have been sick for 3 months now; in and out of the ER; they ran every test except spinal tap; test results dont show anything significant but i have all the symptoms; they keep sending me home.....its getting worse; little seizures, headache, burning up inside, stiffneck, dizziness, feelin horrible like death; cant hardly eat or sleep....i am waiting on appointment with neurologist to get lumber puncture (spinal tap)...hope i get help soon because i feel like im on my way out!

Except I have had a lot of neurological issues like hand tremors, trouble coordinating, pins and needles feeling, and vibrating/oscillating objects in my vision. I have had every test done in the book EXCEPT a spinal tap. I thought this couldn’t be meningitis since it’s been 5 months, but all this started with a fever and I can’t shake the feeling that it could be meningitis damaging my spinal cord. Will definitely demand a spinal tap in my next neurological appointment. At times it feels like I’m teetering in the edge of life.

I had meningitis, I was 15. I remember I had cold symptoms. I remember having a disgusting headache, it was so bad. My left eye was in so much pain. I remember I just wanted to sleep all day, closing my eyes would make the pain go away.. well kind of. I had those symptoms for about 2-3 days. One morning I was asleep and my family came to check on me, and all I can remember was screaming, and yelling. Everything felt fake! It was all slow motion. I remember feeling lifeless. I had no control over my body. I couldn’t feel anything. I was having a seizure. (Never had them before) paramedics arrived, gave me oxygen. I remember being in the ambulance and they was asking me questions like, “what year is it, who is the president of the United States, what’s your name” at this point I was well aware that something bad is happening. I knew that Obama was president, I knew it was 2011. I knew my name. But I couldn’t get the words to come out. I was rushed to the hospital. Had another seizure. Than they rushed me to another hospital, millers children hospital, Long Beach California. I’ve had surgery on my brain. Well til this very day, I can’t remember how it went. All I know is that I have a pretty decent scar on top of my head. Anyway, i had lost all feeling on the right side of my body, hand, arm leg, foot, toes, fingers. Completely paralyzed. I stood in the hospital for 2 months. Had to learn to walk, had no issues with reading, but I couldn’t do simple math. It was one of the hardest times I’ve ever had. But glory to god, I’m here. I’m 26. I’m fine. I have an awesome wife, and the best thing to ever happen in my life, my son who’s turning 3 in 6 months. God was in complete control over my life, and still is. man, those doctors and nurses really became my best friends. I always think about them!

I had it as well. After telling him my activities the night before the symptoms kicked in, the doctor told me I likely contracted it when I went out for my 21st birthday. He said someone may have coughed, or I touched someone's hand or had shared a drink and contracted it in that way. My daughter was barely one and I took care of her mostly (her dad was there, but wasn't there if that makes sense). I went throughout the day feeling groggy with head pains coming and going, but that evening, I ended up going to lay down around 5 or 6. My daughter always slept in the bed with me in her room and her father stayed in the main room. I ended up waking up from this sharp excruciating migraine and I remember calling him in the room to take her because she didn't want to lay down anymore. I couldn't bear even the slightest sound. He came in the room and hit the lights and I just about died from the intrusion of the brightness. It felt as though the high beams on a car were flashing right into my eyes x10. I had him turn them off quickly and to my surprise, he took the baby with no argument. I also remember my neck being so stiff and painful. I endured this for about three days, each day waking up with my symptoms worsening and more symptoms as well; vomiting, a bumpy peeling rash on the palms of my hands, etc. before finally going to the hospital. Within those three days, I would sleep all day, waking up at odd hours between and I could only keep down water, which would come up as well. I had this whole "I told you so!" feeling, because he didn't believe I was really in that much pain. I could barely get out of bed, and they had to call 911 and an ambulance had to put me on a stretcher. Mind you, we lived in an apartment complex two stories up, so I felt so bad that they had to carry me down those narrow flights of stairs. I remember having a cold rag at the back of my neck because I had an extremely high fever as well, and a dark shirt thrown over my face because although it was night, the street lights were even unbearable. They turned down the lights in the back of the ambulance for me as well, which I was so grateful for, although I didn't have the energy to get out the words to express that to them. They told the doctors my symptoms and they kept the room dim for me. I dreaded the spinal tap. She described it exactly the way I experienced it. They shot me with some numbing stuff first which was eerie feeling in its own right, and although I didn't feel the pain of the huge needle, I felt every inch of it and all the areas it was touching. It was so difficult to stay in one place whilst being in such agony. I compare the feeling of the needle with the cringe feeling you get when you scratch a dusty chalkboard 😬. I thought my epidural was bad. I've had three of them altogether, but that feeling didn't match that spinal tap! I was hospitalized for around 3-4 days, I can't really remember. They had me on a drip and I had the little button thingy attached so I could self medicate with morphine (monitored of course). I honestly see why people get hooked on that and end up turning to heroine. That feeling of the first time I got the wave of morphine, I felt the best I'd ever had in my life! It definitely killed the pain, but it also killed my memory because I don't remember shit from those 3-4 days lol. I ended up losing about 15-20 pounds during my weeks of recovery. I was so weak coming home and during my recovery that I could barely do anything for myself. Anyway, I'm glad I made it, because the doctor told me had I waited one more day, I could've had brain damage, been in a vegetive state, or dead. I advise everyone to get their kids vaccinated. I'll be 34 next month and anytime I feel any symptom like I did those days, I honestly get a tinge of fear. I know the signs to look out for now and won't hesitate to go see a doctor or take my kids if they're complaining about any of these symptoms either. This thing is no joke!

I had meningitis at the end of October this year. Excruiating headache, migraine, vomiting, missing parts of days that I cannot remember and when I was eventually admitted to the hospital I started with seizures. I was in high care for about 4 days. 8 days in total in hosputal. I had viral meningitis and let me tell you, you want to die you feel so ill It was the only time I ever felt so ill I wanted to end it all. Severe headache, stiff neck and shoulders, I couldn't move to left or right, up or down, vomiting, fever, aching limbs, aversion to light. God, it was awful. The doctor finally came out to me, took one look at me and I could see he hadn't a clue how to deal with it. Take paracetamol was his advice then he took his leave. I was in bed for over a week in agony before it began to subside. I'm left with an intolerance to bright lights and aching joints.

When I was much younger I fell ill with Meningitis. My parents thought it was just a cold and sent me to school. My eardrums burst and seizures happened during lunch break on the same day. I don't remember the seizures but I remember the lancing pain of the headaches and screaming as a result of my eardrums being ruptured, a little too much for me as a 14 year old. The next several months were a blur. Fast forward 23 years, I have tinnitus in both ears, which can be remarkably unpleasant at times. After my daughter was born I had to purchase ear protectors so I could change her nappy without my ear drums trying to tear themselves apart at her cries. My memory is terrible and has impacted my life in many ways. I use a lot of reminders!! My balance and control seemingly at random fails me if I don't exercise frequently. Plus side - my Petit Mal epilepsy stopped after contracting Meningitis. Freak accident - docs can't explain it.

I've had viral meningitis 6x now. It is the worst pain I've ever experienced. One problem I always had when going into the ER is nobody taking me serious me. I told them I have meningitis and they almost rolled their eyes like,"ya right" It made me feel insignificant. Their attitude always changed when the lumbar puncture test came back positive. But why don't they take it serious from the first moment you come in feeling like you are dying. The first time it was confirmed, I was 24 or 25 Definitely pretty young, but that doesn't mean you don't have it, right? I literally thought I was dying the first time and the doctor wanted to send me home

I had viral meningitis when I was 11 which was back in 1975, I was going into sixth grade. I had a severe headache and passed out on the floor. My mom took me to the ER where I was diagnosed. I was in the hospital for about a week. I ended up having memory loss , a complication from the disease.

I wish I had numbing for my lumbar puncture and I couldn’t hold still. To this day is one of the most painful things I’ve experienced and I still have phantom pain from it. Idk if it’s an American thing or if it was just cuz it was 2010 but it was not fun.

A week ago i felt awesome! Went to lunch break and during the 10 min drive back to the customers house i had already had the worst headache ever. Went home early and laid in bed for 2 days. The third day i was still sick but i felt amazing because i could move so i went to work and had a good day... untill... the drive home. Only this time, by 8pm i thought i was dying. I said my good byes to my wife. I couldnt move a muscle withought hearing the wooshing sound of my heartbeat in my ears. I was for sure id have a stroke from the pressure in my head. I couldnt move my neck to save my life and I shivered myself to sleep under 3 thick blankets. I would jump out of my sleep every other minute gasping for air because i was forgeting to breathe and going on REALLY long pauses... Well its Wednesday (6days later), my head only hurts if i cough or sneeze. and now im able to move all my joints and my back and neck arent in excruciating pain... and after googling and youtubing my symptoms for the past couple of days it keeps coming back to the same thing every time... meningitis...

I had it in 2005 and I started feeling bad and made an appointment with my PCP for the next day but my head started hurting so bad that my father in law took me to the ER that night since my husband was deployed at that time. The ER Dr said it was a migraine and gave me demerol and phenergan and I immediately threw up. But they still sent me home with pain meds and nausea meds and I continued to vomit all the way home. Thankfully my father in law knew something wasn't right and had my mother in law keep my 2 yr old daughter and he stayed with me all night because I was really scared because I was sick all night. The next morning my Dr apt was at 8 am and my PCP looked at me asked about my light sensitivity and asked me to touch my neck to my chest and I couldn't. He said you have meningitis and called the hospital and I was taken to the ICU and they but me under to do a spinal tap because I was in such pain. I was put in a drug induced coma for over 24 hours and then stayed in the ICU a few more days before being moved to a regular room. It was the worst pain I have ever felt and I don't ever want it again. My Dr said that it could have been caused by someone sneezing near me.

my dad contracted.. I think it was called? Bacterial meningitis. So he didnt get the worse of it. So i cant imagine how bad it was for you. My dad was 8 and nearly died. His grandma FORCED the docter do to a weird test for meningitis where all they had to do is lie him down and they could do something quickly to give a possible diagnoses. It was probably the worst thing that happened in his life. And because of my great grandma im alive right now. (And the docs) Im glad you survived the worst of meningitis:)

So weird! I was reading this somewhere else and then I looked and it said, Natasha’s meningitis story and I was like that’s weird how do they know that I had it? My name is Natasha as well Natasha Rose is my middle name of course but my first name is Natasha and I had meningitis over 21 years ago and everything she’s describing is what I had if not worse and the headache would not go away and it got to the point on my neck about stuff and I started getting very very nauseous and then I started barfing without being able to move my neck and I ended up on the floor my parents bathroom and that’s when my mom called 911 and we went to the hospital and it was really loud and really bright because they were during reconstruction and it was so painful and the doctor was joking because he didn’t think I really had it until they did a spinal tap and and my mom passed out and then he told us it was positive for meningitis and then put me in the hospital and isolation and everybody I came in contact with had to have some sort of shot and nobody else in my family caught it I also had a tear old at the time when I had to stay away from him even when I got out and I remember the recovery process took weeks it was horrible terrible and evil disease I want to wish on my worst enemy. I didn’t have any rashes or seizures thankfully but I have no doubt I was on my way to having them

I had Meningitis as a youngster, first at around 5 years and again about a year later. All i remember from that time was the lumbar punch pain,vomitting headaches and not able to walk up straight. I was in Red Cross Children Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa for a couple of months both times. I remember that cos i missed out on school. Fast forward some 38/39 years later, to May of 2021, the worst headache ever, light sensitive, normal over the counter pain meds not helping, neck pain, hectic behaviour change, ( became aggressive), throwing up ( which never happens even when i have had a bit too much too drink). Within 24 hours of first experiencing the symptoms, i had first gone to a private hospital (not on medical aid),so as tests are being performed you have to pay, eventually our savings were drained. I was transferred to a state hospital, Karl Bremer in Cape Town, South Africa. They continued doing tests, put me on morphine for the pain,which seemed to have helped immediately. I was in hospital for 11 days, in that time i had 2 lumbar punches, 2 CT scans and i don't know how many blood samples, i cannot remember much. I call it the brain fog, anyway diagnosis was TB Meningitis. I have no idea how i contracted the TB germ as South Africa is very strict with Covid regulations, and i was always wearing my mask when going out in public,been at home since year March 2020, none of my close friends has TB either ? So in short, i never had or have Tuberculosis in my lungs at all instead the germ chose to travel to my brain and explode there. Never heard of TB Meningitis before this in my life. Discharged 2 days before my 44th birthday. My brain fog disappeared mid August,still experiencing headaches and joint pain, eye sight has deteriorated, memory has been affected. I am on the meds till next Feb...i have my good days and then i have my not-so-good days...my family has been very supportive. Non of my family was affected or showed any symptoms.

This is exactly same as my story. When I was 21, I got Viral meningitis, I got treated. I was normal for atleast two years (in between I used to get migraine for which I would take pain killers as suggested by my doctor). After two years I got the same problem again, this time it was very painful than the first time. I got discharged and I am home now. I am still getting migraine every now and then. Don’t understand if I have to suffer with this for lifetime. 😕

Ma'am i got vaccination of covaxin and after 4 days in the morning i got headache, it was like blood vessels were fully tensed body temperature was also high ,when i walk i felt felt my brain is so heavy then i took paracetamol, symptoms reduced and next day i was feeling pain in whole body, is it meningitis ?

I had it 3 yrs back Initially it looked malaria and malaria came positive even after a long time without any symptoms Luckily i was with the best doctors of India and went unconscious just as i entered hospital and woke up after 4 days After that i had total memory loss had stiff neck Not able to speak properly, was stammering What happned to me in that 3-4 months i dont remember anything even upto now of that period Just what my parents and wife have told me about that time Right now i am 100% normal

I got viral Meningitis when I was 27 weeks pregnant. It was terrifying, because my high fevers were causing the baby to be in distress. The lumbar puncture gave me the worst spinal headache that wouldn't go away, and I ended up needing a blood patch.

I’m pretty sure I have meningitis and I’m pretty sure I’ve had it a while,at this point it’s hard to breath,my bodies reddish blue,my spines always throbbing,I was supposed to be put on iv antibiotics a month ago,still waiting for tests to come back but I don’t think my body will wait,and I’m too scared to go to the hospital because every time I go they treat me poorly,they don’t test for bacterial infections in the er,I had a tongue piercing that was trapping food and it spread,I can feel the infection in my neck,face,throat,my eyes have a hard time focusing I’m always drenched in sweat,my face is white as paper,I’m probably going to die but it’s ok,I tried my hardest for a long time

This is awful glad you are better .Is neck pain the first symptoms is it accompanied by cold and coughs and high fevers? I noticed this lady had no other symptoms besides the neck ache.

@@starlite7785 No my whole face swelled up like a balloon at first ! Then I had terrible migraines , lost all energy to the point I could barley walk . Then little bruises formed on random parts of my body and I couldn't keep any food down , I lost about 10 pounds . Back and neck aches along with fever were there too tho . Some cases are worse than others tho ! Thank you tho I'm so happy I'm better too lol !

@@starlite7785 So I went to the Dr about a week after my symptoms started , they gave me steroids to take for 5 days because they thought it was more of an allergic reaction...my symptoms got better during those 5 days but as soon as I got off the steroids all of the symptoms came back way worse ! So it was about 2 full weeks before I actually was in the hospital for another almost week ! 😭 And my fever came and went , some days over 100 and some days completely normal .
