A new generation means new possibilities in the world of video games. As gaming shifted its focus to more mature titles in the early 2000's, Nintendo took Zelda in the opposite direction with the gamecube classic, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Moment of vulnerability: I couldn't figure out how to get beyond Dragon Roost island and didn't want to use a strategy guide despite working at a Waldenbooks which had guides. I put the game down and moved on. About 18+ months later, a customer and I were casually chatting about Zelda and I mentioned my getting stuck. She then told me that I was supposed to use an empty jar to scoop up ocean water to then use on the dry bombs. My next day off, I did as she said and omgosh you couldn't take me away from Wind Waker during my spare time. I initially pre-ordered WW because of the OoT/MQ bonus which I enjoyed, but WW, my mind was blown upon entering the underwater Hyrule castle. Love this game and it's all thanks to that customer. Thank you for this video as well as the others in this and other series.

That's a great story. Miyamoto initially wanted that for zelda since the beginning. He talked about wanting kids at school talking about secrets and helping each other out. That was part of the enjoyment.

I just now realized while watching this video that the three HD remastered Zelda games came out 10 years after their original versions.

I remember when i saw the commercial for this game before it was released. At that time i had a very strong dislike for the new art style because i was around 14 years old thinking , "I'm not a kid anymore!" So i never played it. To this day i still have never played it or any other post-majora-s mask. But recently trying out "Breath of the Wild" and now watching this video, I think I'll give "Wind Waker" a try. Good presentation with this video. Glad i found this channel.

Wind Waker was the first Zelda game I ever played. My dad got the HD version and I surprisingly got into it with no problem. Since I didn't know about Ocarina of Time at the time (or any other Zelda games as a matter of fact), I didn't really understand the story or cared about it. However, I LOVED the sailing and the combat. It just gave such an adventurous and relaxing vibe. Years later, after playing a bunch of other Zelda games and becoming a Zelda fan, I revisited Wind Waker and even completed it 100% on both normal and hero mode and I suddenly appreciated the game SO much more. The story is one of the best in the series, the combat is a lot of fun, the sailing, while it can be pretty boring at times, gave such a grand and adventurous feeling, the music is GREAT and thanks to the art style, the graphics have aged beautifully. I liked the game so much, I even bought the GameCube version to see how the game was originally, but yeah, the Wii U version is easily the definitive version

I liked this game until the Forsaken Fortress. Yeah its the first dungeon whatever I had a pain getting through it. I feel like even if we were familiar with 3D Zelda it was still stupid to give the player a sword only to take it away and then dog pile it with a stealth section. I haven't sailed around yet but luckily I am playing the HD version

Wind waker. The game fans hated but love now. The fandom is confusing I never saw a problem with wind waker. One of my favorites

As a non-binary person I appreciate you referring to Link with they/them pronouns! Link is supposed to be an extension of the player, so it makes perfect sense

Glad someone noticed! I've slipped up a few times, but I've tried my best with it. Totally agree with the "extension of player" thing. I've wanted to discuss it in writing, but I just haven't found the opportunity yet.
