I got my first Gamecube in 2002 when I was 7 and it was the first console I had other than the Gameboy. I had watched older friends and relatives play the N64 and NES but I wasn’t really capable of enjoying them at the time. So having the Gamecube as my first gaming experience also meant that it sort of set the standard from that point. I loved it and couldn’t give a single negative critique on it until much later. I think most people born in the later half of the 90’s will be nostalgic for those Nintendo products released at the time. In retrospect I can see why the gamecube didn’t appeal to most American gamers of its era but as a child who grew up with it I wouldn’t have traded it for anything!

The comparison to Dreamcast is a little funny since I was playing Sonic Adventures earlier and just thinking how Breath of the Wilds graphics look similar to it, despite it being on the dreamcast. Lol no hate on either console or game.

For me it was never a debate about owning just one, I was always a nintendo fan so I bought the gamecube. Then I got introduced to Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy which lead me to wanting a PS2. After that I've always bought the new Nintendo system and the new playstaton. And it's this era that taught Nintendo what Sony and Microsoft are failing to understand now, a powerful system does'nt guarantee success. It helped that Yamauchi stepped down too, he had connections with the mafia and that explains alot of Nintendo's early ego and cutthroat approach to their buisness. Iwata seemed much more approchable and willing to adapt when things we'rnt working.

What Nintendo did to Sony, with the public announcement, was the business equivalent of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor - Sony was the literal "Sleeping Giant", that was awoken wanting nothing but vengeance for Nintendo's betrayal. And vengeance was exactly what Sony got, when Nintendo was crushed utterly, going from market leader to the perpetual 3rd-placer the company remains to this very day, decades later.

Nintendo is still the king 2 me...

What's funny is like 10 or 20 years we're going to be having videos about how VR phased out PlayStation😂😂 I got in the VR about 4 years ago and haven't gone back to a console since and now with wireless standalone headsets they're a fraction the price of a console with everything included it's just a matter of time😂😂
