“Hello Folks!” from Fargo! I am HUGELY thankful to each of you for this podcast. I was widowed in January of 2020 and this podcast has been a big source of laughter and comfort in the years since - especially during the loneliest time, which was at the start of the pandemic where we had to be isolated. I’m so grateful to all of you! A few weeks ago you talked about earliest memories and I wanted to share mine from when I was only 9 months old. For many years I’d always had a memory of Mom handing me over to Grandma inside my grandparents’ farmhouse porch and that Grandpa was crying. I always wondered what it was about and if the memory was even real. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I learned it really happened. It turns out that on the afternoon that JFK died (Nov. 22, 1963) my parents had an appointment in a larger town and my grandparents had agreed to babysit me. My parents drove me out to their farm and Mom handed me over to Grandma inside the porch. That’s when Grandpa broke the news to them that the president was dead. I asked my folks if Grandpa was crying and they said he was, which I believe is why the memory stuck with me. I don’t remember anything else from that day; just that particular moment - but I remember it as though it was yesterday. Keep up the great work everybody! It's much appreciated!!

Huge Dusty fan here and love what he brings to the Nateland squad. I am a medical provider and always get a good laugh whenever he starts riffing on anything relating to health or wellness, but what he said last week about sunscreen after Burns Badly’s sunburn story had me especially in tears. Depending on their components, sunscreens are designed to either reflect harmful UV rays from the sun away from the skin or to absorb the UV rays themselves before they can penetrate the skin and cause damage. It is highly unlikely that any listeners are here for Dusty’s medical advice, but wanted to clear the air before anybody throws out their sunscreen. Thankful for all of you guys! I am a listener for life.
@madison_kr7 ай бұрын
That’s true but it’s also true that sunscreen doesn’t block all of the rays. It blocks a large portion of UVB and only some UVA. The UVA is the part that goes deeper and does longer term damage so when you block the UVB and then stay in the sun way longer than usual you don’t get that pink first feeling warning that he was talking about that warns you that you’ve had enough UVA. Also, there are so many studies about different times of day being better for you based on the balance of A/B rays. I’m certainly not saying we should never wear sunscreen but there are lots of interesting studies on the topic and I believe this is what he is referencing. 😊

Love hearing that Nate likes taking pictures with people. Fun story of how Covid ruined me meeting Nate - My wife and I were going to his show in early 2020 in Madison WI. We got there early and went out to dinner only to see Nate eating with someone one table away. My mind immediately went to, "I need to get a picture, but also we need to do something funny like send over a glass of milk with ice". Before I could do anything, my mom calls me to rant about how bad Covid is even though it had just started making headlines. My wife and I had a trip to Europe planned, and I had to assure her that our flight wasn't cancelled yet so we were still going. As I hang up, I look over to find Nate is gone already. So I didn't get to say hi or take a picture, and two weeks later the airlines cancelled our trip to Europe. Love you guys and the podcast, keep up the great work!

I think we can all agree the military is the standard for best looking uniforms, yeah? As to ties, "The bottom hangs within 1 inch of the top of the belt buckle. The tie does NOT cover the belt buckle." Sources you ask? Glad you asked. Navy Article 3501.37. Dusty, once again, is correct.
@tulayamalavenapi40287 ай бұрын
😊 Agree... The triangular point at the end of the tie gets lost if it hangs over or on the belt. When the point is above, (but not too far above), it shows nicely. (What's the point of having a point if it isn't visible! 😅). Course there are ties that are "pointless" 😂.... with a straight across end, but those are not very classy.

I relate to the discussion of a joke not taking as much time as expected, but in a teaching situation instead. I teach kindergarten and sometimes the lessons go way shorter than planned so we play a game or something. So what do you do in a situation in a comedy show where you notice your timing is short? Is that where you might work in crowd jokes or do you bring in old jokes? Do you ever start doing improv? Maybe that's when you could ask the crowd to shout out suggestions of what they want. Like maybe, "The plant joke!"

Imagine… giving back a stolen base, wearing a NKOTB tee on the first day of senior year, accidentally stalking a woman in a parking lot, awkwardly offering to take unwanted fan pics… just some of the many stories that would take the reader on an emotional roller coaster.
