that's great advice right there When it comes to sales, I only search for items I'd buy at that moment anyway For example, since I buy necessities such as toilet paper or yogurt, I'd buy a certain brand if it's on sale and the quality of is worth it Plenty of bargains are actually fake sales, when the discounted price is actually not that much lower (it's just been lowered from a higher tag for the sale effect) Just like Nate said, you're not saving $800, you're in fact spending $400 - since you wouldn't have spend that money anyway

Another hidden cost of having a car...it quickly and conveniently takes you to places where you spend more money on stuff you don't need.
@BimmertechG013 жыл бұрын
But on the other hand, in the US at least, you can use your car to make money in your off time with contractors such as doordash, uber eats, etc. At my old job I would make ~$600 a week before taxes, but about 2-4 days a week I would go doordash (most popular in my region) for just a couple of hours. If you are familiar with your car in terms of maintenance, condition, and efficiency you can easily minimize excessive miles and gas economy. This easily boosted me over $300+ extra a week after expenses. If you learn how to maintain your car personally (common things at the least such as oil/filter changes, tire rotations, etc.) your miles will pay for themselves and you will definitely save on maintenance costs.
@TheNOchick3 жыл бұрын
@@BimmertechG01 righttt.. i actually do uber eats and door dash and have made more money than a regular job.. and still am conservative as this guy.. today having a car is actually an asset or a tool to make just as much money... especially when he says he spends $100 a month...100x12=$1200... and that can literally buy you a cheap car to do these kinds of jobs or a good down payment for a decent job and your extra earned money pays the monthly car note and insurance.. so i get what he saying especially if you're single and young like him no children not married and make money through youtube obviously then that works.. but if you don't have those things and you have kids, then that portion of the video about a car is not for you.. he will learn when his time comes with a family he will NEED A CAR.. This is simply not an option for the many people who do not live in large cities with public transit systems. Where I’m from, in South Texas, not having a car will severely limit one’s job opportunities, as well as quality of life. Of course, one does not need to buy the most expensive vehicle and be tied to making $500+ payments per month for 5 or so years, it’s simply a way to get from point a to point b and we should always remember that.

One of my favorite souvenir ideas that I came up with is a tray on a bookshelf with coins from every country I've been to. When travelling, I'll just keep in mind that I'd like to save a coin of each denomination (.01, .05, .25, 1.00 etc), and toss them into my dopp kit during the trip. Then at home, every once in a while, I'll see the tray and sort through it for a minute or two and see a coin from some country and memories from the trip will immediately start coming to mind. Good stuff. :-)

You are soooo beyond your years!! I’m almost 29 and have come to some of these realisations over the past few years (but I was an absolute ejit at 21) 😂 I completely agree with the hostels. I’ve been lucky to make it to 41 countries on 4 continents (many more than once) over the past 6 years and mostly stayed in hostels... This allowed me to meet people from all over the world, make friends and have an amazing time (and save a fortune)! I ended up visiting many of those people and meeting them in other countries. I had a goal to make it to 50 countries before I turn 30 but I don’t think I’ll make it now with Covid. I can’t wait to get back traveling. I only discovered you on KZbin tonight (I’m from the midlands of Ireland) and I’ve watched several of your videos and they are absolutely brilliant! Thank you! I’m guessing your heritage is irish?? We only read non fiction and most books we keep since they are on topics that are a part of our lifestyle. Those we dont keep get donated to the public library. We also eat healthy and we preserve (dehydrate or can) food and have a well stocked pantry. Live in the California Sierra were we can be snowed in come winter and unable to get to a grocery store 30 miles away. We have bought warranties and am glad we did since we are a family and not having to pay for repairs or replacement has saved us a lot of money re washer/dryer/dishwasher! . All warranty info and the receipts are kept in a file and also scanned and saves on a flash drive.

I am 100% with you. I am 3 times your age, and financially independent. Part of this is having a decent and steady job. Part is also throwing money out the way many people do. The only downside to this, maybe a delightful downside, is that the frugality habit is very hard to break. So I may leave a lot of money on the table when I die, which is kind of not the intention. You may not want to look back and realize you've denied yourself some pleasures of life in the name of frugality. That is something to consider when you occasionally splurge. I need to splurge a little bit more often. Also, had I held more equities than fixed income instruments when I was younger, I'd have a hell of a lot more than I do now.

0:31 Love the idea of saving money only to spend it on a holiday. You need to look at saving money as a concept of paying yourself first rather than saving. I'm 100% mortgage and debt free, and have 27 years outgoings in savings. And for the most part been a low earner. You have to make the currency you earn be worth more in your pocket then the next persons I call it positive fungibility. If you earn 40k with no debt other than the cost of living you are massively better off than someone earning 80k who's in debt for the next 4 decades.

Couchsurfing is an amazing, cheap + totally safe way to travel. Please don't be afraid to advise it, because of the way CS is set up. Choosing hosts that have an extensive profile combined with lots of references from former hosts/surfers makes it a very low-risk way of traveling. I've heard from several people who got stuff stolen (or worse) in their hotel, but in over 10 years of using CS, I've never heard of anyone having such negative experiences while couchsurfing. On top of this, the experience of having your personal local guide and meeting genuine people, fellow travelers is priceless! ;) Besides this, as someone who retired at a young age myself, following very similar choices in life, I fully agree with your list :)

I really only clothes shop at very specific times of year--specific sale times. My favorite department store has a 75% Fall sale. And that is when I buy the bulk of my items. And sometimes right after Christmas, I do 75% off sales. But they are at very specific places--Barney's and a regional retailer called Fred Segal. They have stuff that is incredibly well made and lasts forever. The rest of the time, I nix the spending. That way, during the spending moment, I'm working with an exact yearly budget...and asking myself hard questions like what will I need for the full year. I don't do internet clothes shopping. I hardly ever buy anything but undergarments for the remainder of the year. At this point, I'm older, so I already have most of my wardrobe in place. I only buy for replacement or update.
