In the video, you might notice a few instances where I reward Maverick before his sit is completely done. This is something I need to be more mindful of, making sure he's fully seated before rewarding. Also, you'll see moments where I paired some commands, a concept known as overshadowing. It's something that can happen to any of us, and the important thing is we try our best to avoid it. However, if a physical cue is intentionally part of the command, pairing is generally not a problem. The main consideration is when we aim to have the dog perform the behavior with a verbal command alone, without any physical cue. Best of luck with your training! :)

Your explanation about shadowing: "if two things are presented to the dog at the exact same time, whatever is more relevant to the dog is what they're going to focus on" was a real lightbulb moment for me and I finally get the whole treat at same time as command issue! Thank you! Slow, but I got it eventually! :) You are helping me train my myself and my rather challenging mal x gsd rescue way more confidently and, I hope, effectively. I always do hand gestures with verbal queues since I had a dog that went deaf and it was a lifesaver so I do it with all my rescues now. Can't thank you enough for all your uploads. We also have the "hover butt" :) love that!

I'm not sure I agree with the barking. It seems to me that there is a lot of stress and little concentration and that the barking comes as a projection of the stress. Intensity must not be confused with stress.
