That's really great advice, it took me years to realize this on my own... If only had I seen this before :( Also what helps a lot with intonation (and relaxing the left shoulder) is letting the left hand go of the violin and then going back to exactly the same note and intonation you were before (trying to not adjust). I could feel improvement during the first practice section when I did this

Getting back into playing Suzuki book 1 after not practising for over three years. Never knew I'm not supposed to slide my fingers into tune! I did that so much during lessons and my teacher never said a thing haha.

Few exercises are as simple and effective. This has noticeably improved my intonation. I'm much happier in my playing as a result! Thank you so much Nathan Cole. I absolutely love your brilliant content! You have helped me a lot!

Throwing away the shoulder rest helps a lot! It will not improove your intonation which can only get better by sharp listening. But without shoulder rest the finger gets a bigger role in the hand technique and more muscles become awake. Like this, the the left hand becomes more sensitive/free and the articulation more reliable...greately improoves the precision of placing the finger where you want it to

Wow, thank you for this! I've always wondered why building consistent intonation has been so difficult for me and I think this is the reason! Too much adjustments instead of actually learning where the fingers should go... Such a basic thing but I've somehow neglected it all these years.

Hi Nathan, thanks for all the videos. This seems to be different the your “Never miss another shift” video, where you slide into the notes, can you explain the difference?

Hi Mr Cole, why did you decide to not use a shoulderrest? Currently, I am really struggling with pain in my left shoulder (or right)... So, I have been thinking about not using a shoulderrest since it makes me feel uncomfortable even when I try do adapt it. I dont know why, but I just dont find a comfortable position and it really frustrates me. Maybe i should try playing without shoulderrest?

I wonder how this concept relates with a recent comment you made about the left hand placement being guided by the fourth finger and not the index finger. Any thoughts?
