Finally sharing another home renovation episode… and everything that happened with the painter 😓 Btw I do want to clarify, I am grateful for all the things they did right (I clearly start the vlog happy and excited to share the entire process) however, the continuous back and fourth didn’t make it a pleasant experience or environment…to then having areas left undone and worst than before was very upsetting. Overall, always make sure to have a proper invoice and contract stating everything you’d like done very detailed so that you can have something to refer back to!

Yes I agree for certain projects, and it’s also best to not go with the cheapest offer since it could end like this 😓 I wish we would’ve just gone with the company that was charging us more if they were going to do a better job. But you also never know!

So sorry this happened! One thing I've learned in my years of doing real estate investing and remodeling is that any contractor that is readily available to begin work immediately is available for a REASON. Good contractors are usually booked out well in advance. It's also a good idea to talk to references of past clients. Hope the home improvement projects go smoother from here on out!

If you do hire someone else get everything in writing, write up a contract and don’t let this trauma stop you from speaking up again! OMG! This has happen to allot of us. Going through different contractors that aren't doing a good job! But they need to be put on blast your charging your customers allot of money, where are the good contractors at? I mean how do you expect to have keep good customers with this type of attitude. Contractors you need to be accountable, and if you can't do the job pass it on to someone else. And to have a attitude and I'm spending my money unacceptable. Look around at the contractors that are out of business now! Let's RESPECT EACH OTHER! I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of this but I'm praying that this to shall pass. 😮I feel your frustration 😢we bought our house two years ago, and it’s so important to vet the contractors. I only take contractors from word of mouth, and have seen there work firsthand. Our house has needed some renovations and my boyfriend and I have tackled most of the projects, because we can only control the amount of detail we want and we save way more money that way. We are not experts but we do a ton of research, trial and error and are always happier, than paying a ton of money for have ass work. My boyfriend has become a plumber, electrician, carpenter and painter in this whole process. 😂 I would recommend to just take your time, no rush and only hire people who truly are going to do things to your satisfaction. Love your vids, you guys remind me of me and my boyfriend on so many levels. Sending you positive vibes and it will get better I promise 😃

UGH this pissed me off so much for you both!! So sorry this happened to you and what you went through. A final walk through before paying the contractor the final payment is very important!! Happened to my husband and I when we did our backyard patio, horrible finish and wasnt complete smh..so when we hired another contractor for our kitchen and bathrooms, we made sure we were very detailed about what we wanted and had a final walk through before they left which gave us a piece of mind. Also, this is why my husband likes to do everything on his own for this very reason. The only disadvantage of this is it takes him months, years to finish since he learns as he goes. SHOUT OUT to Eric for his work!!! The trims look great!!

You’re a better woman than me because I would have given the name of the company. At least to save someone else from hiring them!! This is a great lesson to always get EVERYTHING in writing and don’t always go with the cheapest. The cheap always ends up costing more in the long run when it needs to be redone. I think all home owners have gone through this so don’t beat yourself up over it. Just take it as a lesson learned!

Hey girl! Yes always have a detailed contract because they can say anything. Also I would have never given them a final payment until everything was done and to my satisfaction. But lesson learned. I had a bathroom retiled with white tiles and some looked beige when they were done. I held back final payment until this was addressed. It wasn’t and they never received that payment. Yes your job was much larger so I feel for you. Your house is absolutely beautiful and hope all works out.

I am so happy to see more of your homeowner journey. I love seeing how much work you and Eric have done on your own. Eric did such an excellent job with those frames. The colors you chose are beautiful. I agree that those painters did an awful job. They should be ashamed of the quality of work they delivered! I see no problem at all with saying their name and giving them a negative review, after all they did such an unprofessional job! Despite this setback, I am 100% certain that you and Eric will eventually make your home ideal for both of you and for Hudson! The home is perfect, location seems perfect, and you both have great taste and skills. Imagine how amazing and proud you two will feel with your home a few months or a year from now; especially with all the blood, sweat and tears you invested. 💖Keep going! CONGRATULATIONS!🎉 PS: Love your vlogs!

Girl, I feel your pain. I paid my landscaper thousands only to have my new sod and palm trees basically die within a year. I had to pay to have everything redone. I was sick. With my new house I am so into what other people are doing with their homes, so I'm loving your homeownership series. You guys lucked out that the other house fell through, because I really love this one now. When you first showed a video right after you bought it I was a little worried because it looked dark and dated. But you guys are transforming it. It's gorgeous what you've done so far. Gosh!😳 Looks like an integrity issue! They are the painters…they know how to simply paint and what it entails. They were very careless in many areas where you specifically gave them details of work needed to be completed. Yes! 👉You live and learn! I feel like a contract definitely would have backed you all up where they would have been responsible and accountable for their work. So sorry you encountered this type of situation. You guys are good at your choices for the home however this was a big eye opener! It’s an experience that you are sharing that is very helpful to others. 🥳Stay steadfast and hopeful! ALL this chaos happening is not in vain. Pray that you guys get things aligned and fixed!🙏 The house is so gorgeous and huge! I know it will turn out BEAUTIFULLY! Blessings of peace and grace to you guys!♥️✝️♥️

Thank you for sharing your story, I am a contractor myself and when I meet with my clients to discuss their renovations projects , for me transparency is very important on the scope of work and letting the client know if you’re able to tackle their renovation request. If I cannot, I would let them know upfront that this is not possible due to the amount of work and size of the project. Also when requesting for payment always pay a contractor in thirds and as you mentioned in your video is very important to have an invoice. The moment that the things started to go left for you and your husband. The contractor should’ve been fired from your video and you showing your pictures. Your request didn’t seem over the top. It was basic priming and painting, sanding and completing the simple task that you paid for. Again thank you for sharing. Al Santiago of Quad Handyman and Painting Services.

Hi Nathalie! I’m so sorry this happened to you. I was getting so stressed out for you 😢. Genuine question, do you have any regrets buying a fixer upper home vs just buying a fully remodeled or new model home? It just seems like you’ve spent so much money, time, and labor fixing it. I would like to know your thoughts since I will be house hunting soon. Thanks for always sharing your life with us. Sending you love and positivity ❤
@nathaliefischerx3
@nathaliefischerx3 14 күн бұрын
Ahh this question is a hard one to answer bc if I’m being honest I don’t regret it at all, I love that we’re making it our own and are able to do all of these changes… I would feel guilty wasting all this money on remodeling a house to our liking that’s basically a turn key home if that makes sense bc let’s be honest even when buying a turn key home it’s someone else’s design and style. We have definitely done a lot at once but I think if you buy a fixer upper you don’t necessarily have to jump the gun and do things right away if you want to safe money, specially with how expensive the house market is rn. But on the other hand if I had the money to buy a turn key home that’s my dream home with barely to no changes made I would’ve 100% done it. However, it being our first home I knew it was going to be a learning curve so I’d rather learn all that we are with this house and have all the knowledge whenever we’re ready to build our dream home in the future!

Nathalie & Eric you're doing great, hitting snags here and there is par for the course. In today's world everyone is out to make money and detailed renovations on a house provide fertile ground for this stuff that happened to you guys, so lesson learned, EVERYTHING YOU WANT DONE TO THE SMALLEST NAIL in writing, no $ until you're done and I HAVE INSPECTED IT WITH YOU and sign off that you did a good job. Get recommendations from other homeowners in your area who can maybe tell you who to steer clear of. Just breathe and move forward, it'll all come together in the end. I wish you both good luck and smooth sailing herein!

It's such a shame that some people will just say whatever to secure a job. I feel so frustrated for you, I could cry. We had tile put throughout our home as well as backsplash in the kitchen and paid over 20k. Every day they left I would cry to husband angry about having to confront them the next day about something they slacked on. I literally had to have them take down the backsplash and redo it. It's sooooo infuriating to feel like you just wasted so much money and could've done it 1000x better.

When my aunt and uncle bought their house in 2001 (its funny you and Eric remind me of them cause shes Dominican and he’s a Gringo lol), my uncle literally renovated the whole house himself lol he only hired someone for the new floors and some parts of the basement. Take things day by day and dont overdo yourself because you still have more projects to tackle .Learn from all of this, and for the next job, you know what not to do .Always get a contract in writing before any work is done .i guess just try to correct as much as you can to your likeing .i feel Eric does a good job he just needs some time to get things done .

OMG! This was painful to watch! I never ever everrrrr hire any type of contractor without a written contract and detailed/itemized invoice on what’s being done. Also, I check references, BBB, I look up their license on my state’s website and ask for insurance info. This goes for electricians, plumbers, or any contractor what yore spending more than a couple hundred dollars for or have a potential for messing up something in your home. Lastly, I make sure the final payment isn’t made until all the work is completed in a satisfactory manner.

That painter sounds terrible, but I want to point out: The customer is always right IN MATTERS OF TASTE. We've all been misusing and misquoting that saying our whole lives. We, as customers, are always right in our taste regardless if the vendor thinks it's ugly and tasteless, but that's it. But if you have written comms that detail what he agreed to and then he didn't do it? You're owed a refund, for sure!
