Nathan is my age , I've been playing bass 45 years, but East has a history unequaled, if you are 25 years old and plan to listen to every album and recording Nathan has been part of, you better start right now, you will be collecting Social Security by time you are done.lol

nice kenji hino super nice and the big master Nathan East ,awesome bass players usa-japan
Some really great stuff here. This is the first time Jino has appeared on my bass radar (I know - I've got to up-grade my radar). He's a very gifted player and sounds great with Nathan here. Contrary to some of the troll-blabber below, he strikes me as a very empathetic player, listening and supporting Nathan's playing.

I think he is just being respectful of the culture. He knows well this is mostly targeted to the Japanese audience, humble demeanor goes long way in pleasing his Japanese fans. It's just a cultural thing that he caught on living and playing in Japan for extended amount of time. It is an indication of his heightened sensibility, a sign of a very smart man.

It's amazing how easy it is to criticize obviously great players! Nathan needs to work on his slap sound? Really? I've been fortunate enough to see Nathan work in a studio session back in the 80's. Not only is he extremely skilled at what he does, he is a very cool and humble person. There is a reason why he continues to be an A-list bassist!

Jino you have got some serious skill no doubt. But i'm sorry to say that you played over the top of nate. When nate was soloing your job should be to support the bottom and keep it consistant. You change the bottom up to much man..just keep it simple when someone else is soloing. In other words LISTEN and realise that the music comes first and not you. And this is why nate is an A player and has gotten the gigs with so many artists. But i do like you Jino, and you could easily be an A player too if you just listen better. Nate i luv ya man..you are THEE Man on bass!

john morressey I'm glad you realize this cause judging by most peoples comments here they seriously don't realize. Realizing things like this is what makes the difference between a good player and a great player. So yeah congrats man..you are an A player :)

that japanese guy sounds bad. no solid tempo, uniteresting phrasing, and as someone pointed in comments, didnt hear nate at all during the jam. nate was a gentleman and underplayed on purpose, since he could break the guy into tears. very clean technique, tought. good groove for a japanese. clear miller inflluence (you could tell even without the similar bass. hehe), and I bet hes good at reading and stuff like that, and managed to be a professional musician. but music is much more than that. :)
