Dearest Subscribers, Thank you for watching! Our raw footage totaled up to over 30 minutes of content and so I had to edit out a few things. If you're wondering about any movies, or you even just want suggestions, please comment and ask! I know there are plenty of us willing to help! Also I realize War and Peace isn't actually 8 hours.. it was more of just a number I was throwing out there. It wasn't until after I filmed and was editing that I realized it's a bit shorter. The point I was getting at in the video was that the movie is very long haha! Thank you guys so much for supporting and watching!

Nathan Hale Yeah! You’d never know it was the director’s one and only narrative film. Some awesome black and white widescreen cinematography, a spooky organ-based score, and some cool set pieces, like a ghostly ballroom sequence at the end. It’s on the Criterion Channel if you don’t want to blind buy it.

It is a masterpiece. At first it seems like a standard high school flick, but it's realism and level of detail is insane. It grows with multiple watches, same with Little Women and Francis Ha. Gerwig is actually a pretty spectacular writer/director.

If you want Brief Encounter, you really should get the David Lean directs Noel Coward box set. 4 excellent films for $40 (on sale) plus lots and lots of special features. I agree with you on Lubitsch and Shop around the Corner, but To Be or Not to Be is the best Lubitsch film and I am so happy that you got it. Kluny Brown is a new Lubitsch Criterion release which is also surprisingly good. Also, I just got the digibook blu-ray release Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and it is a glorious high definition quality!

Nathan, Have you seen the films of Stanley Kubrick? I was surprised, not in a good way, to hear you refer to Barry Lyndon, as his one hit wonder. Checkout: Eyes Wide Shut, A Clockwork Orange, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove, The Shinning and the list goes on. You will enjoy the discovery of these films if you have never seen them.

Just FYI... "The Last Emperor" is not a foreign language film; it's actually mostly in English with some Japanese and Mandarin in a few scenes - it's also a British / Italian / Chinese / French produced film. "War and Peace" by Sergei Bondarchuk is a freakin' masterpiece. If you're put off by its 7-hour 2-minute run time, may I ask if you've seen a season or 2 of "Breaking Bad"? Either of those was much longer. Also, think about this: it was made during the cold war, when Russia wanted to prove they could make a much better film based on their national masterpiece than Hollywood did, (really... Henry Fonda as Pierre? Ridiculous...) and boy, did they. No expense was spared; many of the props and set dressing came from the national museums, and all the effects are practical. During the battle scenes, when you see thousands of soldiers clashing with explosions going off everywhere, as the camera sweeps over the battlefield, THAT'S ALL REALLY HAPPENING! It's split up into parts, so you can treat it like a mini-series. Janus Films (parent company to Criterion) also just recently restored the film, so that print is the best available since it's release in the late 1960s. Just thought you should know...
@maplestreetmovies5 жыл бұрын

Just discovered this channel as I am a huge Criterion/foreign/independent film fan, but this video proves a lot of these "collectors" are nothing but hoarders and know nothing about the films they are just buying to put on shelves. The Last Emperor sounds a lot like Game Of Thrones?? hahha, has he watched the movie yet, I would love to hear his reaction when he learns that they are nothing alike.

zakwan10 in his defense it was his first time ever Criterion shopping 🤣 he hasn’t seen it yet, you’ll also notice that we called the movie a foreign film, which it’s not that either 🤣 collector’s don’t know everything my friend, we make mistakes too.
