Would you recommend it as my first Bergman film? I’m definitely getting it on the last and final haul. And yea... Dont Look Now beat it out. Im so sorry. That’s also one I have to get next time no excuses

@@TheMisfitPond It was my first Bergman film. And I loved it the first time. It's not really super experimental, but it can't be a little bit confusing (kinda Lynchean imo, you can see how David Lynch was inspired by this to make Mulholland Drive) Also, Eraserhead was my first Lynch film, and I'm a super Lynch fan now. So Persona being my first Bergman film wasn't a problem for me.

@@TheMisfitPond I'm pretty sure Wild Strawberries and The Virgin Spring are the 2 best starting points when it comes to Bergman. From there I would move onto Persona & Hour of the Wolf and so on.

MidLevelMedia ah man Climax is the best Now film imo. But Irreversible is the most traumatizing due to its prolonged scene of sexual violence. But it’s still a brilliantly directed film with some of the most wild camera work I’ve ever seen.

I'm so glad you ended up getting The New World. Straight up masterpiece! Some other films I noticed in the background that I totally recommend if you haven't seen The Red Shoes, Dressed to Kill and Young Girls of Rochefort are all fantastic!

Have you heard of Revanche 10:55? Its a really good film, if you liked 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days i would totally recommend it to you. Its a slow pace drama with a phenomenal cinematography. Its a very haunting movie

Yeah, although Arrow Academy released a good bit of those titles. Mostly 30s-60s classics though.

@@TheMisfitPond Oh, Criterion has released lots of titles in the UK but not as many titles as they've released in the US. Mostly because they've been released by other UK labels like Arrow Academy and BFI. Lots of french and other european cinema that has american Criterion releases are being released by Studiocanal in Europe.

@@Tim_Raths That's true, even though I still own that old New Line DVD, I may pick up the Crash Criterion in December. I'm thinking of getting the Arrow UHD too, they just added more features, not sure though. Most Criterion films I wait to get during the sale but there are a few I get day 1. Comfort of Strangers was the last title I bought on release day, Paul Schrader is one of the most underrated Directors ever and that's one of his best and one of the best Blu-ray releases this yr imho. I'm hoping Light Sleeper and Affliction come out on Blu-ray soon.

SlaughterCinema1 haha I think he just likes to hold them lol but I think he also likes to make final decisions. There’s a lot of maybes he wants to sort out and make final decisions at the end of the haul. We have to drive an hour out just to find a decent B&N.

Yeah haha DVD's look so bad. I have a top end 4K Blu-ray player and it makes them look so much better due to high precision upscaling but even then I wish they would go away so 4Ks and regular Blu-rays go down in price.

@@TheMisfitPond Yeah they're almost the same price for regular Blu-Rays for a lot of films. Obviously things like out of print and Criterions are always more expensive. But DVDs in 2020 with the technology we have now it's just ridiculous considering the quality of TV's now.

blood simple is far from great. I wouldnt use the word underrated. It's brutal to sit through, probably their only bad film. why buy a $20 criterion without having even seen the film? watch the film first, then buy.

I bought 9 criterion films. After taxes it was like 200 hundred dollars. How am I cheap ass? In the previous video I bought 15 criterion films.
