The emperor was in a hurry which according to the chaos allied like Erebus was a great treat to their plans, they had not expected the speed of the crusade, they had lost of plans all of them where slow to evolve which resulted in risky actions like stealing the sword or dagger from the museum. The emperor spent 30 years together with Horus, and still he turned to Chaos, Motarian was probably going to turn no matter what, he had to lead his legion and was a lost cause already, like Angron.

Ya, I'm only a few books in but there are a number of slim chances that just came off, Erebus and the sword, Loken not being quite convinced and letting Davin go down, Magnus just missing during the same, the Eldar w/ Fulgrim. But you're right, intrinsically, it seems the Primarchs and the Astartes (both for the most part) had too many foundational issues to stave off chaos in the long term, especially when almost all were ignorant of its influence.

I think most 40k fans dont even know what they like about 40k from several polls and discussions, they said that the flight of instein was a bad book and very boring like wtf i just finsihed it and its so far my favorite one out of the first 4 books I thought Saul was badass but Garro is a fucking man of men

And I'd say The Khan is the top Primarch of the Heresy, closely followed by the pinioned Sanguinius and the Immortal (and biggest) oh, and most human of them all, the great Salamander, who likes giving out hugs lol
