As a Scotsman I find that when England is not allowed to have things that make them English superbly abhorrent. This or Land of Hope and Glory should be England's anthem. This song in particular gives me chills, which is exactly what a national anthem should evoke. If this was England's anthem I would sing along as well as singing my own. Edit (Aug 8th 2022): Thank you guys for all the likes and comments, I made this as a more or less the a throwaway comment at the time but I have enjoyed reading all your comments when they pop up in my notifications over the years,. Love you guys. ☮💙🌹❤☮

@Florentine 193 Thank you for your reply. I agree with your comments on the media, they only seem to be able to sow discord. They don't seem to have any desire to foster national unity and without unity all we are left with is increasing bitterness and resentment. We should be a family of 4 nations united together under one banner, not 4 nations under the heel of a cold and disdainful state. In regards to the World Cup, I was happy from the very beginning for England to reach the final and I watched their every match, urging them on in every game. I can never truly know how I would feel if England if where to have won but I am incredibly glad that they did well because of all the nations England is the one that needs hope the most right now. They are in my opinion, which will seem paradoxical to people, the most downtrodden nation of the family. Without England being able to stand up to the British state and take control of itself we will find it very difficult to resolve the issues among our national family. Anyway, I must say that watching England in a rowdy crowded Glasgow pub and watching them score and win and secretly being the only one who want's them to win produces such a deeply satisfying feeling. Also being super energised after a match when everyone else becomes sulky with their "Aw, fuck sake, jammy bastards" comments is great as well. In this song, The "Hand me my arrows of desire." sequence and the concept of building Jerusalem among dark satanic mills never fails to produce chills. Do you have any moments in any of Scotland's anthems that give you chills? Have a nice day.

@Anywhere But Here! That is also an exceptional song I didnt know about. It gets me right in chills zone, which any nation anthem should try and strive to achieve. Thank you for sharing that with me.

@Florentine193 Thank you again. I completely understand your issues with Flower of Scotland, as with all things it is what you make of it but its contents make it very easy to make it divisive and stir up resentment. The approach to the song is actually one of things the deeply concerns me about my fellow Scots. The way that I make of the song is as such: the song asks Scots when will we see your like again that could fight and die for yer wee bit hill and glen and stand against those who would take your liberty away. It does not ask you to resist the English, it hearkens back to a day, to an example, that represents the values of fierce defence of liberty, solidarity and fraternity. It says that the days of feuding violently with the English are in the past now, and in the past they MUST remain however, it tells us that we can still rise now and be the nation again that so fiercely fought for those values, and held them dear, like those that stood against him, a proud tyrant, not a proud people (the English). It is in a similar grain to the lines from Scotland the Brave "Firm as my native rock, I have withstood the shock: of England, of Denmark, of Rome and the World!". It is asking us to stand up to threats to the values we hold dear as they arise, not any specific people or nation for eternity. Example would be how we stood as nations hand in hand to defeat Hitler and the Nazis, not the German people. EDIT: While a song that was made after the second world war, Who Do You Think You Are Kidding, Mr. Hitler? is a great example of my point of view from an English perspective - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5-1epigjttso9E Yeah, the way the media and popular culture has gone, things that should not cause serious division like movies (Braveheart etc) are becoming just that. Even England flying it's own flag is a divisive subject, which to me is ludicrous but that is the current state of Britain. Now that I think of it, we need a Flower of England song because it can still rise now be the nation again that advanced and fought for liberty, solidarity and fraternity. The relationship between English and Scots should be of friendly rivalry and jolly cooperation, not of bitterness and resentment. On the issue of which anthem should have the primary position I tend to agree with your position, but old habits die hard so it would feel strange for a while. I am sure I would get used to it eventually. I think Scotland the Brave would fire up the spirit in our sports teams better, it definitely fires up my spirit more. Flower of Scotland is more of a sombre retrospective that leads to a new found resolve. I would love if somehow we could sing both, with Flower of Scotland first to tell us why we fight and then Scotland the Brave to fire up the spirit of what we are fighting for. If you would like to learn more about my perspectives on Scotland's national anthems or England's then I am happy for us to have a direct conversation on a less public and easier platform like Discord. I would love to share my views and learn yours greater build my appreciation. Thank you for your time. Have a wonderful day.

Having an england only national anthem would help keep scotland in britain as some scots feel forced into having the english national anthem as the UK anthem. Scottish independence wasnt an anti UK or england vote with the exception of a few moronic idiots but a pro scotland vote, believing that scotland could not only just survive but also succeed as an independant nation. I personally voted yes and i mean this with no distain towards the common english man but i am against god save the queen as the UK anthem, i am also sick and tired of getting tory government after tory government after tory government that quite frankly my country never voted for.Look at the scottish econony always booming with the extra powers, britains 2nd richest city is aberdeen,we make a fortune in tourism food and drink, gas and electricity, we attract big business and finally for such a small nation we have given so much to the world great leaders sportsmen and women, television, phones, penicillon,as i said earlier our famous foods and wines amongst many other things ans that is before we even touch our bonus of north sea oil. That is the pro scotland yes vote and not the bigoted anti english hatred vote. There is also english patriotism that has been stolen by the far right and is almost deemed as racist when you see the BNP,EDL and recently UKIP but they all misrepresent true english patriotism of churchill and shakespeare with an england only national anthem

I'm also Scottish and I love this song. I have nothing but respect for all the nations of our islands. Unfortunately, the people we only see and that we form an opinion of, are our divisive politicians. This is genuinely a great shout for a National Anthem. It's a cracking tune, but more than that the message of the song is something positive - *we should strive to build a better nation*. And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark Satanic Mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand Till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant Land.

If this is not England’s officlal anthem then it should be. A country’s anthem should inspire and stir its people whenever it is heard and sung. I’m a proud Welshman and hearing the anthems of Wales and Scotland bring me out in goosepimples and bring a tear to the eye. This anthem has a similar effect whereas ‘God Save The…’ is an absolute dirge!

So few people have a clue about the ancient esoteric meaning of this song - not just that Christ and Joseph of Arimathea once visited Glastonbury (of which there is early documented claims) but also a belief once believed by most, that the people of the British isles are one of the lost tribes of Israel. This is still believed by the elite and kept as a carefully guarded secret.

Or the hills, valleys, waterfalls, and seaside cliffs of Yorkshire? Or the beautiful cliffs and bays of Devon and Cornwall? I could go on... Still though, I thoroughly enjoyed!
