What an amazing opportunity it was to be able to spar with so many arnisadors, both from the Philippines National Arnis team as well as from various FMA systems. A big thank you to Coach Rodolfo Jay Garcia and Elrik Jundis as well as others for making this sparring meet up possible. It could actually be considered a historic event as many sport arnisadors and traditional martial artists don't actually spar often - like elsewhere the traditional martial arts world and the fight sport world are diverging. However thanks to the efforts of notable arnisadors here, it seems in the Philippines the martial arts need NOT split into two irreconcilable halves. 💪

Thanks to my mentor and martial brother Elrik Jundis for linking us up. Great stuff! Would you consider going over the rules and the specifics of the trainers used in a future vid? It looks like padded and un-padded rattan but I am curious about the length, diameter, and weight if you know it!

To be honest I don't have specs of equipment for you... But there were light hand hunting matches, hand and head and leg, as well as anything goes

Big contrast to your last FMA sparring videos. I assume grappling was limited previously because yall were on hard ground instead of mats? It's really hard without weapons experience to see whether hits land. With rattan, at least I could tell when there was a solid block. But the sticks move so much faster than hands or feet, the framerate makes it hard to judge what lands. The throat stab at 6:38 was incredible. Which if any of the types of headgear used was FMA specific? What was it like getting hit on the head with the padded stick?

Yea with mats it becomes safer to grapple more intensely. Yes it can be a bit tough to see due to speed... judging such matches takes experience, a keen eye, and ideally a good camera with slo mo ability. and the thoat stab, yea man, Raymundo is quite formidable.

To me it felt like getting hit with padded stick was like a hard slap but focused into a smaller area. There is FMA specific protection, just google "kali arnis sparring armor".. what you see are minimal protection mostly and that's not specific to FMA.
