Hi Jamie, thanks for the video! I wonder if they provide regular housekeeping for the common area and bathroom shared between you and your roommates? Also did you just eat out everyday since you couldn't cook?
@DearYoungerMe7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sherina! Yes they do! They clean the common area and bathroom twice a week and give us new toilet paper rolls once a week. And pretty much! by the end of the semester my roommates and i learned how to make rice in the microwave so we also did that and then ate noodles hahah :)
@sherinachan88647 жыл бұрын
Jamie's Corner thank you for letting me know! I am actually struggling between choosing utown or PGPR. Do you remember how long it takes to get from the mrt to utown and from utown to the campus? As far as I know you need to take the bus haha
@DearYoungerMe7 жыл бұрын
Sherina!! Definitely choose Utown!! Don't choose PGPR. PGPR looks nice from the outside but it's hot, humid and old on the inside hahah. That's what all my friends from PGPR have told me. I personally loved Utown Residence because I got my own apartment and roommates! In PGPR, you have a single room to yourself and it's hard trying to talk to people on the same floor because their doors are pretty much closed. And everything happens in Utown (events, cafeteria, classes, exchanger's parties)! it'll take about 10 min from Utown to the Kent Ridge MRT but it's honestly not an issue because busses run every 15 minutes or so. It's about a 10 min walk from PGPR to Kent Ridge but the busses will be able to take you anywhere from Utown. Utown is more pricey than PGPR but I highly recommend it!!! haha I can't stress this enough except by my exclamation marks. Choose Utown!!!! :D

Thank you very very much for your advice!!! :D You made Utown sound so much better now haha!

Hey Jamie! Can you give me advice on which residence to apply for? Preferably close to the faculty of engineering.. Thx!!
@DearYoungerMe6 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend any residences in Utown. The central/newest area of the NUS campus is called UTown but there is also a residence hall called UTown Residence which is in UTown. UTown Residences are only apartment style and dont have a dining hall. Aside from this are also residence halls called Cinnamon, Tembusu, CAPT, or RC4 which are all in UTown. These all have dining halls and meal plans you have to pay for and they all have the option of apartment style as well as individual rooms. Then there are other older halls like Raffles and Sheere's Hall that has more local students and are located in the other part of campus. There's also Prince George's Park Residences. Don't pick here, it's hot and there are a lot of bugs and it's far from a Utown. I highly recommend picking any of the residence halls in Utown! It's the newest part of campus and the dorms are really nice. Here's a picture of my dorm at Utown Residence. There is a mix of local and exchange students in Utown but to my knowledge this is where a lot of exchange students are located. Check out this link where you can take 360 degree tours of the residences. nus.edu.sg/osa/housing/undergraduate/hostel-options.html. I hope this helps :)

Thanks alot for this video! I'm going to NUS in august, and wondering how hard it is to get residence in UTown, is there some kind of queue? And how much did it cost a month? Where there any AC? (maybe you saud this in the video heh) Love, Alice
@DearYoungerMe6 жыл бұрын
Hey Alice! I'm not sure how hard it is to get into. But a lot of the exchange students do get placed in any of the utown residences. But if you don't get in, you should apply to change! And there are options for AC and non-ac rooms! The AC rooms are more expensive though

Are you allowed to work part-time as an international student? Just like in other countries it is obgligatory to work 20 hrs a week.
@DearYoungerMe6 жыл бұрын
Hi Soumik! According to what NUS told me, I was not allowed to work because I had a student visa. You have to have a work visa to work in Singapore. I don't think you can have both visas simultaneously but I'm not 100% sure. You should ask once you get to your university!

Hey Jamie, would you recommend CAPT residence over UTown residence?
@DearYoungerMe6 жыл бұрын
Hey Majd! I've been to CAPT but only to the single room dorms...personally I think that's too lonely since you don't have people living with you. So I would pick Utown residence. But you should ask yourself if you want to room alone or with people!
@nyeeeeeeeeeet6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response! I think there are shared CAPT rooms now (6 person), I would prefer having people around, preferably fellow exchangees to travel around with, what do you think would be the best rez in that case?
@DearYoungerMe6 жыл бұрын
@@nyeeeeeeeeeet then CAPT 6 person and utown residence with 4 people are the way to go! As long as you're sure you can get roommates i think that'd be better. But also keep in mind your roommates might also be local students who might not have as much time to travel as you do!

Are you from Seattle? I'm a prospective NUS student from Seattle and I was wondering how you went about applying? (APs, etc., how hard was it to get accepted?)
@DearYoungerMe7 жыл бұрын
Hi Isabelle! I actually applied through USC, my current college for a study abroad exchange program. So I didn't apply directly to NUS. But once I got accepted by my home university, it was an automatic in for NUS. And it wasn't too hard to get accepted by USC. I just applied and wrote about why I wanted to study abroad. However, I was told that usually 1-2 people get accepted to go abroad. But also like 1-3 people apply each year so I think everyone who applies gets in?
