I think I understand the resistance to these changes in grammar. They are somewhat disruptive. But also, they made more sense in Spanish than in English. In English, adjectives are generally gender-neutral, while in Spanish, the letter O at the end usually determines if it is talking about males (like in Latinos), and the same is true with the letter A for females (like in Latinas). So the x at the end is an attempt to make the word refer not only to males but all genders. But there is a better alternative imo: ending words in E. That would make it gender-neutral and is just a bit less disruptive than an x. It would be then "Latines."

He even received an award from Puerto Rican community for being Puerto Rican when he always knew he wasn't; he also has no Italian nor Lebanese blood. I've seen the Latin History For Morons show on Netflix, in addition to his other shows in the past, and it's fantastic like they all are. The part of the interview where he choked up about his son being bullied was the rawest thing I've ever seen in one of these talks. Racism is not just a topic for an academic forum or discussion: real people's lives are affected, children are traumatized, and he did what he could with what he knew how to try and protect children like his son. So much respect for him.

Interesting footnote in history that has been conveniently erased is that missionaries, of the days of old, traveled to the lands of South America, they made records of HUGE cities, with millions of people, there was gold, and fruit, and nuts, an amazing empire existed on the far side of the ocean. How ever, when they returned about 100 years later, they found nothing but jungle- the theory is that the missionaries who traveled through the areas brought illnesses with them that the locals had no immunities for. After they left, in a brief period of time, millions of people died, and their cities where taken by the jungle. This all occurred in less than 100 years time. -e This is an important lesson in history, especially in the days of covid.

Latin identity is sort of a misnomer for Spanish speaking people's from Spanish America because many don't have Spanish blood. And many mestizo, mix of Spanish/Indian hate the Spanish, are anti Spanish and proud of their Indian blood. 90 some % of persons from Spanish America are immigrant especially since turn of the 21st century, which really started with the 1960s President Johnsons Immigrant Act. Resulted from Democrats needing the south of the border votes. And in fact, USA tribes don't identify with Mexico, from SW Navaho, Comanche, Ute, Chumash, Shasta, Piaute, Pawnee, Cheyenne to those way up north .

When he says that 35% of NYC is Latino and 35% of NYC is white it's confusing since most Latinos in America are white. So he means "non-Latino white" rather than just "white". Talking about so called "race" in America is always confusing since race is just a social construct with no firm foundation. People change race all the time.
