...most likely. More air, more fuel. However, if ones tries to stay out of boost as often as possible and is easy on the throttle to keep engine load as low as possible, the fuel economy impact can be minimal. Plus, a properly tuned car will use its fuel better and there is a chance fuel economy can go up....but who goes stage 3 for fuel economy. 🤔

I like the mods that lessen the restriction to air flow. However the "tune only" improvement (25%) is obviously achieved by relaxing the design limit on boost pressure, which is to say, by changing the management of the wastegate. I think the interests of people looking to mod their cars would be better served if tuners (not to single out this one) would say this plainly, i.e., "We changed the software management of the wastegate to permit a substantial increase in the design limit on boost pressure, and this resulted in a 25% increase in engine torque throughout the rpm range." Engine torque may be thought of as an expression of the amount of work an engine performs with each individual rotation of the crankshaft. Engine torque has a linear relationship with this amount of work, and since this amount of work is in proportion with the quantity of fuel+air that is consumed with each individual rotation of the crank (and since the the mixture ratio is always going to be very close to the stoichiometrically correct ratio no matter what), it is apparent that the only possible way to bring about a 25% improvement in engine torque is by way of a 25% increase in the volume of air that moves through the intake manifold with each individual rotation of the crankshaft. This is a fundamental truth that everyone interested in improving engine performance should absolutely understand. Most people who make performance mods probably have some understanding of this fact, but it is probably true that the typical performance enthusiast does not have a perfectly clear understanding of this fundamental truth. Once you have a perfectly clear understanding of this fundamental truth, the question that you can't help but wonder about is how it is possible for a simple software change to increase this volume of air (the volume of air that moves through the intake manifold with each individual rotation of the crankshaft) by 25%. For anyone who thinks it is a good idea to do this, another way to achieve much the same effect, at even lower expense than a software change, is to swap out the spring in the wastegate actuator, or else modify the valve that is in the feedback loop (boost pressure is returned to the actuator via this valve). That said, the better way to do this, for anyone who thinks it is a good idea, is probably by changing this software, since this allows the tuner to make other changes that may be needed to accommodate the increase in peak intake manifold pressure.
@65sohc2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the dissertation on how an engine creates power. Anybody who doesn't understand that you increase power in a supercharged engine by increasing boost pressure needs to be driving an EV. As far as swapping out the wastegate spring to increase turbo output, this is 2022, not 1992. The B58 wastegate does not have a spring you can simply replace.
@SheekTresSesenta2 жыл бұрын
Bro swapping wastegate springs hasn’t been a thing for almost 2 decades on German motors….. they don’t even have springs man
@tombarber80132 жыл бұрын
@@SheekTresSesenta Dude, first off, you and I are not "Bros", or anything close to that. Second, you ought to find some way to try and behave like you have a little bit of sense. What I mean by that is that you completely overlooked the point of the comment I wrote and picked out something that was not even a little bit important. If you aren't able to identify the important points of what someone else wrote and respond in an intellectually honest manner to the important points, then you really ought to just stay quiet. FURTHERMORE, as I ALREADY POINTED OUT in my response to 65sohc, BMW switched to electronic wastegates in 2014, which was eight years ago. 65sohc thought it was thirty years ago, and you think it was twenty years ago. Thus, you both were so determined to find a way to take cheap shots at what I wrote that you homed in on something that is very low in importance, and then when you did that, you didn't even take the time to make certain that you knew what you were talking about. I'm not going to restate the gist of what I wrote because it is fully apparent to anyone with any sense and with a modicum of intelligence. You and 65sohc are simply a pair of clowns, and I have no doubt that there are thousands more like you out there. Anyone who has any sense and who understands anything at all about the problems encountered when applying either a turbocharger or a supercharger to an engine knows perfectly well that detonation is a fundamental problem and that the way that this is ubiquitously dealt with by all reputable manufacturers of stock vehicles is by using a lower compression ratio to begin with. If you don't know this, or if you know this but don't understand the reason, then you are simply ignorant of the topic being discussed here. If you do know this and if you do actually understand the reason, then the appropriate and honorable sort of comment for you to have written would have been something along the lines of, "Yes, that's correct."
