This game is sitting on my desk, ready to be played this weekend. I've had it for a while. I picked it up at a nice discount. So we'll see how it goes.

It’s pretty good. Takes 4ish hours though.

Nations is one of my favourite Games ever. While I see, that it can be frustrating, I think there are catch up mechanisms if people cooperate against the strongest player. If the strongest player rarely manages to become immune against the others' cooperation, then that player usually deserves to win and the others can still play for second place.

I appreciate the honesty of this channel. I think some social media reviewers just like to give negative reviews to games a lot of people like for the sake of not liking a popular game. Your channel just seems honest and when you are critical of a game, it comes across as very sincere. In a industry where there is not a lot of transparency in reviewing, I really enjoy the rawness of your thoughts and channel. Great review.

Start war at level 0 if if fear war! In a game with many players military, going first, is very good. My main issue with the game is no catch up mechanism. I think players should vote after each round to lower the difficulty for one player (more free resourses) next round? Or some other such stuff like all players get more free stuff (woth most if you are behind).

Did you ever try it with its expansion Dynasties?

I’m afraid not. Does it improve the game without adding bloat?

BoardGames4K, yes. It adds new Civ boards (6) with two civs per side (12 new total). These new civs are analogous to the “B” sides of the five nations introduced in the base game and add a lot of replayability whilst still being straightforward. There are numerous new progress cards, including ones that synergize with the civs, but most notably include “Natural Wonders.” Instead of having to hire architects and use stone to get these wonders, you “explore” instead, which basically means you miss a turn(s). These wonders can never be removed/replaced. Adds more strategic depth, without being fiddly. Lastly, it adds “Dynasty” cards (two specific to each civ) which you can turn to by going into “turmoil” (loses 2 stability for the round, then get it back--like a revolution). The dynasties add civ bonuses and help you adapt. I always play with Dynasties. It does not fix the things you don’t like about it, so I don’t necessarily think you would enjoy the game more with the expansion. But for those that are fans of the base game, I absolutely recommend it. I still hold hope they’ll produce another expansion that brings in a fifth era--the modern era. Who knows.

@@BoardGameBollocks it is an improvement yes. More playable nations , more cards and some extra twists. best more actions vs teh other players (like all other players lose 1 gold).

thanks for the review, although I must say the points you don't like about the game (mainly numbers 1 and 3) are a typical opinion of those, who have not played the game, say, 10+ times. There's much more depth in the game than one can discover in X number of games (X being a low number). This is a resource management game, where focus on just a few of many game elements, incl. military and wars, will see you finish perhaps on a nice 3rd place at best, but 9/10 times you'll not be on the winning end.

We’ve played this a number of time but not 10. I doubt we will get it to the table that much either but it’s nice to know other people’s opinions and how they differ from ours. Thanks for taking the time to comment 👏🏻
