Why is there any drama about this? Memb quoted Hera, of course people are curious why the bst player in the world isn't playing. The reasons he gave suggested it was only because of tournament settings. Memb didn't trash talk one bit. Hera could have just said there are personal reasons. This is kinda dumb.

I'm really surprised that this video generated so much controversy. Am I the only one who thought nothing of it? Like..."Oh those guys skipped because of settings? Too bad. Maybe next time." I am not sure if those who are complaining that Memb insinuated some evil intentions have ever watched him. He yells everything and the words come out angular, but if you listen carefully he's just speaking like Southern Europeans tend to do. Maybe he really should fix his accent if it's going to cause him this much misunderstanding. If people went to harass hera or larry, that's on the people who did the harassing. Memb just told us what they told him and he interacted with chat casually by speculating lightly. Then he hyped the tournament. That's it. People might demand that he display some sort of S&P 500 corporate professionalism by pleading the fifth on everything but the players are not displaying that level of professionalism either. It's all casual in the AOE2 community. Some people just want drama too much.

for my own taste i dislike the settings, having evrything from 1v1 up to 4v4 with players have to sit out on some series its just not competetive imo. In AoE2 we have many pro players from different nations but only few countries can field a competetive 4v4 team. For someone like DauT, a top 10 Player, its just not worth to even sign up since he is by far the only top serbian player and even when he plays the 1v1 he cant help his weaker teammates out in one of the TGs. The idea may be exciting but having many top players not signing up should be no suprise with these settings

@@gebhard128 sponsor wanted the settings and you are wrong, with this settings teams like Norway has alot more chances since they can shine in different formats, if you make only 4v4 less teams has chances. And nations cup was only 4v4 so what you say is full contradiction.

I can understand the sponsor wanted these settings and without him the tournament cant happen, but u misunderstood me a bit, 4v4 is not the format i would prefer, 3v3 or even 2v2 is a good format imo since the most nations depend on their 1 strong player. Quite petty behaviour from some of the players to be honest. If you know anything about esports, you know that players are the rockstars and get the majority of the money, while tournament organisers have a hard time even eking out an existence. If the players don't want to compete, thats on them.

Only a handful make money from aoe2, so its not like other esports. I feel like those who stream are the only ones able to make a living and just playing this game even if you're are winning every tournament, its quite hard to survive.

Instead of taking the money offered to him, he asked the corporations to invest in teams and eSports team competitions. He also spent tons of his time going on publicity tours, meeting with politicians, etc., to improve the image of gamers and promote eSports as an industry and profession. Granted, all of this ended up benefitting him greatly in the long run but at the time he did it, it was a big sacrifice. Why do I say this? Because such acts of leadership are not to be expected. Don't expect your best players to be epoch-making heroes like Boxer. The best players are usually just normal people who want to maximize profits while having a good time. That's it. In other words, they're like you and me. They're not going to save our community nor should they be expected to. That's why I enjoy their streams but don't sub or give donos. I can give them eyeballs for ads and they can give me low-commitment entertainment. Fair trade. No one is hurt. Everyone gains. I will say this though. If the next person to take over as the best in the world assumes a leadership role in the community instead of just being a cog in the machine, then that player will be a universally admired rock star hitting T90-level numbers or more.

I remember watching Nations Cup in 2017 and then, 2023 cup was fantastic, because it was in the same format. It was like going back the years, Canada beat China in the first match, but then in the grand final, China took the win back, which was a big surprise, because the Canadian team was playing aggressively, they took the initiative, but in the finals, the Chinese team beat them with their own weapon by taking the map control early. I fear that this Nations Cup won't be the same as those previous editions, because the game evolved and 4v4 tournaments are out of fashion, apart from Rage Forest, which is just a 1 map tourney. So we will get 1v1 and 2v2 games, which aren't in the spirit of previous Nations Cups.

If you give the admins other reasons and don't say a word about also having a personal reason, how can you expect them to not think you skipped because of the tournament format reasons? No one is asking him to explain himself.. just say "I can't make it due to personal reasons, thank you for understanding". Would have gone a long way in avoiding this

These guys are the backbone of the community. Doesn't mean they have to participate in everything put out even if it doesn't suit them. We can only speculate about the real reasons (Memb is not the most trustworthy source as we saw with Hera) so instead of complaining und publicly shaming everyone that doesn't play I would prefer to hist to refer to the players for their reasons and focus on what he does best which is organising the event

Like there's gonna be some rules you find inconvenient in any tournament, and the settings are meant to appeal to viewers who there are tens of thousands of, as opposed to only players, who there are only dozens of. As a Canadian and a fan of all our top players, I'll still be watching and rooting for slam, Chris, mentalist and the rest of the boys, but it's gonna feel a bit like a wasted opportunity if we don't bring our full A team, as I'm sure fans in many other countries whose top players aren't attending can agree.
