Discovered this video by accident. Brought back memories as I was then the Chief of Current Ops at NAEWFC at SHAPE. I remember this quite vividly and it was a long day/night.

I was there as FOB component personnel ( jet engine mechanic ) and we help go out aircraft crew. All crews get out successfully.

This happened shortly after an E-3 went down in Alaska after ingesting several Canadian geese in #1 & 2, killing all 24 on board. In this case despite the damage all aircrew walked away.

Mike and Bill! Whats up fellas. Had no idea this existed either. Was a CC back in GK when it happened & flew down to clean up. Most of this aircraft was scrapped. Parts were mostly not reused. Uhhh, seawater mate is corrosive to electronics. Pilots "thought" they heard a thud & backed out of V1. Thats unheard of! Canadian FE was the only one banged up with broken ribs. Very lucky that 152k of fuel didn't go up. No thrust reverse because Boeing & USAF had issues with stress on the struts holding that dome. Also costly to refit.. Brits, French & Sauds had no issues known with their CFM56 thrust reverse engines later built. Those were the days.

My shop packed those slides and raft. I went TDY down there the next week and took a walk out there. She was a mess. A lot of the crew very lucky. Some not so much. All survived though.

Wow. I didnt know this video was a thing. I recall back around 2005 one of the OK birds had a photo post crash with this jet in the forms, and was a major thing. I cant recall the tail number but there was beef between the dcc and the crew. The DCC said it was a reminder for them to do a good job, which they coudlnt fault him for, but I think we all knew that there was something more, and rumors were than one of the flight crew was messing with the crew chiefs wife or something. Awacs drama...

I was a C-130 flight engineer before doing a tour at GK…I never got use to not hearing some reverse action during landing roll.

@@DogRedful E3 have TF 33 engines and no reverse(except TF33P5 on OC135 or WC135 because derivated from JT3D of civil version after a re-enginning); E3D E3F have CFM56 with reverse but KC135 R and T not!!!!! what a nonsense in case of a necessary RTO or making a short field performance in case of emergency

Tell me about it. E3-A rejected take offs are a very big deal because of the high probability of brake fires.

The avionics racks were the only gear that could be used. They were used in one of he simulators. Sea water & aircraft don't mix. Luckily, nobody was killed.

don't worry, Tinker will give you overtime, to fix it, since they don't give a fuck about your "home life", and want you to devote everything you own, to fixing old airplanes
