7:21 True words from Stubb. Keep in mind that Finland's military, since the end of WW2, has always prepared itself for an incoming aggression from Russia. On one hand, Finland has always tried to keep good relations through diplomacy to all its neighboring countries, but they were not naive, knowing exactly that the threat was coming from the East and not from the West. That's why they have build alliances with their Nordic partners, constructed bunkers on their eastern border and even developed weapons that have the primary purpose to defend themselves against a possible armed conflict against Russia. Finland is for sure a security provider and a huge enrichment for the entire NATO. We are glad to have you by our side!
@tapio_m6861Ай бұрын
This Finland's doctrine where the clear danger comes from the east wasn't established during cold war or during WWII. It goes centuries before that. Finland has been attacked by Russia a dozen times in the last thousand or so years. Being cautious and wary with Russia is a thousand year doctrine.
@RockerFinlandАй бұрын
That's true. The US Senator Tom Cotton said it well: "Finland has a 900,000-man reserve it can draw on in time of crisis and can field an army of 280,000 when fully mobilized; which means Finland’s reserves are larger than the reserves of France, Germany, and Italy-combined. Finland has one of the strongest artillery forces in Europe, with more rocket launchers and howitzers than France, Germany, or the United Kingdom."
@lukearts2954Ай бұрын
Finland will be the teachers on how to keep the bear contained and chained. I would even argue that between Finnish preparedness and capabilities and the money the EU has sank into Poland allowing them to grow a significant military, even if the wrong person would succeed Biden, Europe will be able to stand against Russia and win.

Both of these leaders are going to steer NATO and Europe towards a lasting peace and help Ukraine win its war of independence from President Putin's war machine.

Many Finns dont understand how HUGE this is. For 70 years were part of the Soviet circle of influence (do you remember Tarja Halonen and what she did?). EU was the first step we did to get rid of that and NATO was the final. Now we are finally part of the Western World. It took a long time and lots of work.

In my opinion, an ultimatum should be given to putin clarifying that should any missile/drone enter or appear to enter NATO countries airspace, the action would be considered an act of war and dealt with accordingly. This could be a double red line that he might be careful not to cross.

All those unoccupied land should join Nato. Hereby at the same time Nato can draw a red line to Russia moving forward to fighting on additional land. Thus Ukraine can be gureenteed that some land is safegaurded and will not be invaded.

There has always been-and there will always be a need for-a lingua franca. In the past it was French--ere that Latin-now it is English; in the future: Who knows? As long as there are distinct peoples there is a need for a common tongue for communication.

NATO should deploy troops to relinquish all internal functions of Ukrainian military, freeing them up to deploy their full capabilities to the front. Having experienced techs in the staging areas will reduce the turn-around of NATO delivered jets and vehicles. Our experience with logistics would also make a huge impact. And most, if not all, member countries are legally allowed to provide personnel for humanitarian, technical and logistic relief as well as support to local law enforcement without violating any international laws or treaties. Therefore such support cannot be seen as a direct participation in the war. Furthermore, Russia has already set the precedent, deploying foreign divisions near the front. This is not an escalation, but rather a war ending effort if we commit to it. That is why I would like to ask everyone from NATO countries to press their government to send such rear support units. If we rotate a permanent presence of 120,000 NATO personnel, the war's end is a matter of formalities. Especially if we add the warning to Putain that any attack on a soldier will be treated as an attack on that soldier's homeland.
@unknownentity8256Ай бұрын
7:00 Reserve is 900,000 Stubb, and wartime strength that can be rapidly deployed & logistically supplied & replenished feasibly is 280,000... I'm surprised by this incorrect statement tbh. Also important sidenote that is just the strength of Finland's military, since they're in NATO and assuming Article 5 is followed, the manpower theoretically can be 2-4 times that of Finland.
@HoseTheBeastАй бұрын
280k is the official war time strength which will be reinforced with the rest 620k of the reserves as need arises.
@Andres_1970Ай бұрын
With due respect IMO... From the moment that someone in the russian armed forces pushes the button to launch a flying weapon in a "Westerly Direction" lets say, and knowing well that it's flying characteristics could probably place it in "NATO's territory" , it is an UNACCEPTABLE ACT and therefore should be dealt accordingly. It should be up to NATO to coordinate within it's member States ( and of course with those other States which could be in the path of those weapons, if they ask to), the way those flying objects are neutralized or securely deflected.
