Sorry to be blunt, but that it pointless. The whole purpose of a NATO strap is to save the watch when one spring bar breaks. This strap doesn’t do that, so you may as well wear a two-piece fabric strap.

Nato design singularly was to prevent the entire watch slipping off through loose fixed bar lugs that were common back in the day. That's the only reason for the extra strap and loop. There's a documentary about it.

Sorry, but all you did is to defeat the purpose of a NATO or Zulu strap. Now if a spring bar breaks, the watch falls off your wrist. Recommend a Zulu strap for one layer below the watch OR the alternate method of attaching a standard NATO that again is only one layer below the watch which also has the added benefit of now moving the strap to the bottom of the wrist versus on the outside, which is just plain annoying.

I just got my honey Dijon nylon in the mail and I LOVE it! I’m using it on my white dial Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition. It’s a perfect match. The mustard strap matches the faux lume on the hands. I had completely given up on NATO straps even though I love the look. Even a single pass feels weird on my wrist. I don’t care that the zero pass loses the feature of staying put if you break a spring bar. I don’t worry about that with my other 20 rubber, leather, and metal straps. In 50 years of wearing watches I’ve never had a spring bar fail. So why would I worry about it with this one? Max, you’ve created a total hit. Way to go!!!

Max, honestly this looks pretty intricate to put on every morning. Maybe needs some practice. It eliminates the safety advantages of a NATO but is still bulky, only flipped the double layer UNDER your wrist. I would prefer an innovative flat strap under my wrist when working in the office. Most of my NATOs wear good and fill the space under the lugs, so the watches sit very well (better than with single layer straps). I think I recall a similar strap technique (with leather) at a 1940s vintage watch I got offered in Switzerland about 25 years ago. Interesting you had the same idea now. Colors and designs look great and prices are ok too (my NATOS are between 12,- and 200€) Wishing you a perfect start!

@@WatchCrunchOfficial honestly, I got about half way through before clicking away because IMHO it was all a little ridiculous. I did see that it was mentioned, but I’d already written the comment and still believe it stands. You can buy a regular watch strap made of nylon for a nato appearance if you don’t want the underpass. The whole thing smacks of solving a problem that doesn’t exist, or if you want to put it another way, solving a problem that’s already been solved but doing it in an alternative and inferior way. No matter how you slice it, I wouldn’t consider the new thing to be superior in any way to any of the alternative old things. And it eliminates the primary advantage of the old solution. No matter how I look at it, the new thing doesn’t have a purpose, IMO. And it specifically eliminates a purpose of the old thing. But hey, the world is full of all kinds. If you can sell something to them, what do I care? I’m not buying it. 🤷

@brianmsahin
@brianmsahin 7 ай бұрын
On the face of it, it's a, cool idea but when I think about it, it doesn't really make sense. We use NATO style straps in particularly rough environments and have to put up with the wierd loop and keeper at the side of the wrist as a, trade off for keeping the watch on your wrist if you lose a spring bar. There's no real point in having that awkward looking piece if you're not going to have the protection. It's better to buy a good standard canvas or nylon strap as it just looks better. Or, cut off the double pass bit or use an original single pass while still having the safety with a bit less bulk under the watch. A good quality single pass or a cut away NATO will not feel flimsy at all. What we have here is a strap that's not very esthetic but it doesn't provide the safety. It's basically an ugly looking strap with no real benefit with unnecessary bulk on your wrist for no good reason.

Fun idea! It looks like you took the single pass NATO strap and widened the inner loop to allow the hand to pass through. The tradeoff from a practicality standpoint is reasonable (just look at any standard watch strap and if a spring bar breaks the watch will fall), but I think the fact that you have to slide your hand through before tightening (as opposed to just slapping it on your wrist) makes this more of a difficult sell (Apple does this with their elastic bands, but now there is the added complexity of tightening it down). Could you have achieved a similar aesthetic result (and I guess conventional result if we're considering the weight distribution) with a conventional 2-piece fabric strap by just doubling the layers?

Pretty cool. I'd be seriously down to try one of these Zero Pass straps. The only thing I hope you change or maybe add to the collection is different hardware. Not a big fan of the Zulu style hardware with the large rings which never seem to sit completely flat against the strap as they can often be a bit larger than they need to be... Rather they can be angled flatter against the strap, but they can also shift to another direction if you know what I mean? Not to steal your thunder here, but, a similar concept, but, perhaps with the MN strap design in mind with an elastic strap and hooking hardware are straps from The Watch Steward. They are made to order and there are a number of color choices as well as configurations to be made. I personally prefer their "minimalist" configuration as it eliminates one extra layer that their original design configuration has as well as makes it less likely to scratch the lugs with the adjustment hardware on the strap as you're putting it on.

I could definitely see a version without the extra metal keeper at 6 (so you could just slide the whole strap through ) work well for watches with fixed springars like for the Tudor Pelagos FXD. No springbars to break, so it would be the perfect use for your design

Actually I thought of this already and congratulation for making this. Ialways feel that the 1.3mm or so thickness look awkward on my skinny wrist so I welcome a thicker strap or a thin double strap. I like this configuration especially for my thicker watches. While you're working on it, can you please make one with the elastic marine national material. Im sure this new design will be a hit and will be a popular option. So work double time bro before others catch up.

So what’s the point?! Why not just get a regular thick strap? Excessive length, bulky wrist width, and still failed like any other single pass strap. At least the strap on the BB925 doesn’t have extra length. NATO straps are examples of form following function. This is talk but cannot walk. Who are these meant for? Stolen valor wrists? Disappointing.

Very similar to a Marine Nationale as in putting the spring bars over the strap and feeding your hand through less the single pass of a MN..SUPERB invention love it....

I don’t have any issues with the strap running under the watch on NATO straps. What I don’t care for is the extra bulk created by the strap looping up and back through the keepers which this strap sadly preserves.

Would love for someone to design a nato strap where the “bulk” resides on the underside of the wrist rather than on the side. Especially for a small wrist like mine where you have to tuck the end of the strap in that extra bulk above the 12 o’clock looks unsightly when you’re looking at the watch imo

I bought the honey Dijon for my Tudor BB pro. Looks great, but the strap is too Short for my 7.5 inch wrist. Yes, I can technically get to to fit… but then there is an annoying tongue sticking out instead of being folded over. It just looks lame like that. People don’t buy a nato to have it *barely fit*, part to the whole look of a nato is to fold the remaining strap under the final keeper. I will be retuning the strap. I really hope they come out with a longer version for bigger wrists so we thicker chaps can enjoy this product too. (Cause I really do like it).

Great idea. The problem is you will need strong springbars. My brother who loves NATOs has had his break several times, I had to get extra thick ones for his. You should make long straps for wearing on top of coats and jackets in the winter. It is surprisingly useful here in Canada

You've invented..... a normal watch strap. You eliminated some problems but completely overlooked on your watch and a nato that a tucked big lump of strap at the end is the naffest look out there, like abysmally bad.
