Duuuuuuuude this is so sick!! I love and respect you very much. Thank you for taking the time to make this. I love your combination of humor, realness, and honesty. You are right in your assumption of it being a comped performance. This was not mimed, there was a video editing flub where the wrong video take was used. The performance was definitely edited. I felt like going that route because I had only played the song 4 times at this point (the 4 takes we comped for the album) and I was worried I would be too sloppy. Their previous drummer Anthony Barone had his Shadow of Intent drum videos slightly quantized so I agreed to do it. Definitely will be going the natty route for future playthroughs. Thank you for your kindness and compliments. You fucking rule. Hope to meet you on a tour soon! Cheers mate 🖤

@@reynlord666 not misconstrued at all brother, I feel you!! You're helping people see and hear things they would normally miss, and understand how hard this style of drumming truly is. This honestly is just gonna push me to be a tighter drummer. I appreciate you. Thank you for all that you do for the drumming community. Let's trade chops one day! 🖤

Bryce Butler filmed a drum playthrough once in the same warehouse my band use to jam at in El Paso, TX. Got a picture and got to hang with him for awhile! Nicest guy ever. And hell of a drummer 🤘

I met Bryce while he was playing with Lizard Professor some 8 years ago and we’ve been chums since, always been a goofball. After he went through some real tragedy he decided to focus on always being as positive as possible and he’s always had a smile on his face ever since. One of the best to come from DTX!!

Okay SO Bryce is one of the craziest drummers from my local area. I've literally seen him play for AT LEAST 20 PLUS BANDS over the time I've been a part of the DFW scene. Such an amazingly sweet and humble person irl as well!

Agree with Craig, just put in the description a comment that says "product of multiple takes" or something when that is done.

I just want to say right off the bat that Bryce is one of my favorite drummers in that scene right now and I even had the pleasure of seeing him play live this year (which he fucking crushed it). Anyways, you did a great job of pointing out some of the errors in the video and then showing how he actually can play really well. You were very fair in your criticisms and stated multiple times that he was a very good drummer, so you handled this very well and professionally. Doesn’t make me think anything less of him as a drummer either. Looking forward to more of these videos!

I’ve seen him live in Dallas/Fort Worth. This is exactly how he plays drums live. The dude is good. Not everyone that is good has to look like they want to kill someone. This dude loves his job and he’s good at it. And he’s just a generally happy guy in life.

That muted blast part may have been a fuck up on the video editor, they do multiple takes and the cleanest track is put over that. But the cleaned up kicks that's a different story, doesn't make him less of a drummer.

You know you’ve watched too many of these when you pick up on the “edits” before Craig points them out 🤣🤘🏻
@worhed37223 жыл бұрын
def can hear the difference between the natty kicks and the cleaned up ones. bryce rushes at the tail end of his kick patterns and mashes the last couple beats together when hes getting ready for the transition. Its an easy thing to do on any instrument. i can have the same issue on guitar, end up thinking a bit ahead and then playing a few notes sloppy in a run.
@Max_Payn32 жыл бұрын
This is so true , I have a habit of writing riffs around that and it’s actually a cool way to add dynamic. Like adding a quick rest after a fast run to give yourself time to switch back to where you need to be, it ends up sounding cooler sometimes .

Even the great Tomas Haake has some "play throughs" that are clearly the album drum track. It doesn't disappoint me, it is what it is. I would really get more enjoyment from hearing a live play through however.

He is better then I will ever be, but it's also good to see that even these seasoned pros make mistakes on playthroughs, and I learn to not beat myself up so much when murdering some of the songs I attempt to play.

These types of video don't bother me at all because it could be a slight misalignment of video editing and actual recorded take, or honestly could be 100% prerecorded and miming, but either way they're not making huge claims about that nattiness, and if viewers are educated about the standards of recording and editing (you are making that knowledge extremely accessible) then there's not really any "lying" in my opinion.

Not sure how anyone can perceive this as you “shitting on” these drummers when you’ve gone out of your way to praise them as you analyze the footage, even so far as to say in this particular one that he’s in fact “better than you at the drums”. Clearly Bryce is a huge talent, and you’ve identified that, so how can people still create this illusion that you’re doing some sort of calling out? Seems pretty cut and dry to me, people have chromosomal abnormalities, aka they’re goobers.
