My problem with doubles like this is the beater distance. David Diepold uses doubles, but his beaters are coming way back, and he switches his technique at the same speeds.

I play drums and analyze biomechanics as part of my job. Although I appreciate you wanting bass drum triggered doubles at that speed to be played open (singles?) and bigger as opposed toes up front and using triggers, but doing do something like that for that long a set, night after night on tour. . may be asking for that drummer to HURT THEMSELVES! You most likely would tighten your hip flexors to the point of strain. Continued overuse could possibly lead to IT band issues, and even eventually involve lower back, sciatica, etc. Overuse is no joke! He just finished a 2 year tour of 25 countries. This year over 100 shows. That does not include festivals, rehearsals, sound checks, practice, and recording other projects on off days. I think his long term health and triggers are just fine. . lol Rest well Kami Anthony-Metal. Saw him 2x! He was awesome.

@@nathandrums0 No they don't. Like, it's not possible for one to sound good. The snare will blend into one stream of white noise because the hits are coming too rapidly. Ever listened to a top level drum line player do a mega fast roll? The strikes have no distinction. No matter how perfect and clean your technique is, the sheer physics of the drum will turn it into static. It's like to a 300bpm double kick roll. Triggers and samples are there to make sure you can actually hear the individual strikes.

So all you non musicians, beginner musicians, and biased/jealous musicians: triggers are not cheating in extreme metal. Triggers are for volume purposes/drum sound sculpting due to the high speeds being played. The drummer still has to play in time and at tempo with triggers and if the drummer messes up while using triggers you can hear the mistake much more clear than without triggers. Just because the sound doesn’t match up with the video doesn’t mean Anthony cannot play the song. This video is just to show the viewer how to play the song. Infant Annihilator has went to 100% straight up drum machine.

Dear more informed humans in the comments, when he says "triggered doubles" on the kick, does that mean, its triggered so for every hit it plays twice, or does he mean its triggered so he doesn't have to play very loud allowing for more speed because the trigger negates the need for volume?
@c0m8usti0n53 жыл бұрын
There is a piezzo sensor (either on the Pedal or the Bassdrum head) which sends a signal to a sound module everytime it gets hit. „Doubles“ refers to his foot technique where he is not moving the entire leg for every hit you hear (singles). He has half of the leg movement and plays one note with his heel and one note with the toes (search for heel toe technique) which is easy to learn and to save some energy Hope i could explain it to you 😅
@KvltKrist3 жыл бұрын
@@c0m8usti0n5 has the best explanation. Always good seeing some education going on in the comment section!
@derrickseidwalk64233 жыл бұрын
"doubles" is a form of hitting the pedal twice while using less body movement. Nothing wrong with it. Think of doubles with your hands. LLRRLLRR. Same with your feet. There are different methods (physically) of using doubles. Heel-Toe, Slide, Swivel, etc. Triggers are typically used for that speed to A)Make the sound easier to hear due to such insanely high dynamics at a wild BPM and B) Because of the speed, it equalizes the volume of each kick. A trigger on a kick is (usually) more like a microphone to a singer. It might change the sound you hear, but doesn't change what he's playing. (obviously there are exceptions to this. But the gentleman here, Anthony Barone, is shown here to be an incredible player, not using triggers to cover up any lack of skill) Obviously what we hear in a studio and what you hear in the same room with any musician is different. But it should still be "honest" in regards to skill. This guy is a great demonstration of that honesty within the studio.
