Love your videos! I’m getting my first pair of really good quality boot’s tomorrow, for my 68th birthday. A pair of Grant Stone Brass boots in dark burgundy Kudu. They seem to be one of the few companies that carry wide sizes.

I have a par of Thursday Captains & Premier low tops in natural Cromexel. & I did a little experiment. I used venetian leather balm on one & Saphir Renovateur on the other. To see which one I like better.

Result?
@MahBok78 Жыл бұрын
@@Bootlosophy don't know yet. The leather balm (Not exactly the same as shoe cream) darkens the leather very slightly. Sahir makes no color change @ all from what I've noticed.

Great information on history, production, care and how to love your Chromexcel boots. I am enjoying you videos very much. I wish I could find some of the good buys on ebay as you have, I guess I have an unusual foot size.

Natty CXL is my favorite iteration of CXL. I have the natty Indy boot, but it’s proven to be a real B to get some good patina on. All my other examples in natty CXL have been easy to gain some beautiful character from sun and use

I think that’s the same on my OSB Trench Boots - I think the cuts they use are just too good to patina easily

Do you recommend or have experience with the use of any sort of protectant spray to use following cleaning and conditioning. In Canada, during the winter months, any source of moisture the boots will be exposed to will contain a heavy concentration of salt. On my top grain leather golf shoes I use Collonil's "Carbon Pro" spray. It does not darken the leather, makes cleaning much easier and still allows the leather to benefit from the oils and waxes in the conditioner I use. I know that both "Carbon Pro" and "Apple Guard" are in popular use by women on their extremely expensive Louis Vuitton handbags.

I believe Jojoba oil has replaced whale oil for most commercial applications, so not a marine oil but a vegetable oil.
@Bootlosophy2 жыл бұрын
Good to know! But Horween told me they still use a marine based oil.

Thanks for this. My White's CMP Sherman boots are made with British Tan Double Shot uppers. I see they also have a Natural Double Shot. How does the White's Double Shot leather compare to/with Cromexcel?
@Bootlosophy10 ай бұрын
Very similar
@robgerety9 ай бұрын
@@Bootlosophy Thanks. Does the natural version end up at the same place colorwise as the British Tan version after some time? Your boots look a lot like the british tan color - (at least when new).

I recently purchased a pair of Grant Stone Natural CXL Diesel boots. I have some Kiwi neutral dubbin at hand, would they be suitable for use on it? If not, could you recommend something that can be purchased more easily here is Australia. Cheers!
@Bootlosophy Жыл бұрын
You can buy Venetian Shoe Cream on Amazon. A good cobbler will also stock Tarrago conditioners.
@MementoSai Жыл бұрын
@@Bootlosophy thanks for the advice, unfortunately the neutral VSC is like $140 for a bottle for some reason, where the black and dark brown are $25. I will wait a while and see if more stock becomes available.

Honest question: How have you got enough time to wear all these boots?
@Bootlosophy2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, it’s a struggle. I try to get at least one wear out of every boot in a month- that means on some days I change them out. But I have favourites which means some don’t get a lot of wear overall 🤷♂️

I've got a pair of cheap Caterpillar boots whose leather shows the same behaviour. They've cost me about 100$. The loose grain on them is pretty bad. I guess some asian producers poorly replicate the process of tanning.
@Bootlosophy11 ай бұрын
Not the tanning so much as what part of the hide is chosen. Loose grain will generally show in parts of the animal with fat, so belly and so on. Makers of cheaper boots use all of the hide. More expensive ones tend to throw away more and hence raise the cost per square foot.
@DM-ul5yc11 ай бұрын
@@Bootlosophy I see why they were so cheap. They still look nice though, if you don't pay close attention.
