Right you suppose to know how to style your natural hair sometimes bc this is who you really are. Love yourself. It will definitely bring confidence to your peers. Underneath those braids and weaves its a CROWN waiting to be explored. You can do soooo much naturally. I braid partially, I agree with you sis nothing political even though, I’ve been around since the 1950’s. My times were natural we had no commercials devaluing our values, or lowering our self esteem. I agree we all should wear our AFRO’s. It would definitely help us financially cause we are not reaping the benefits supporting local stores and beauty supply changing, and the global market. Let’s take back our Right, Our CROWNS❤

I met my husband years ago while natural. Still am. I switch it up sometimes but when I do 90% of the time it is still similar texture styles only. It’s a completely anti black rhetoric that natural hair isn’t enough. If your partner doesn’t like your real hair then that is an issue. The solution isn’t to wear straight hair all the time.

I agree, we need to wear our natural hair or hair that mimicks our texture. The more we do it, the more normal it will be, power is in the hair & we can do so much with our natural afro hair, no one else has hair like us, our hair texture cant be replicated. Im tired of seeing straight hair weaves that arent even kinky or even silky curls. I want black women to realize how beautiful and unique we really are, naturally.

In the Caribbean, this is more normalized. Only in North America do people act shocked about wearing natural hair. I feel like I'm in a different universe especially in America. Canada is more about natural hair especially if their family culture is not connected to North America.

I think it depends on what is considered 'soft life'. Soft life didn't mean luxury to me. For me, it's being protected and provided for so I can live without a lot of worries. Isn't luxury just 'glam life'? I'm not sure when glam became synonymous with soft because a lot of the glam/rich bw don't seem to wear their natural hair much.

I like your point- styling natural hair isn’t for everyone. I never realized there was a distinction between having natural hair and styling it until recently. I like to style my hair it’s a form of creative expression for me. But I do think it is important to have at least a few hair styles you can do on your own including the Afro. And I am waitinggggg for the day when I see hairstylists offer just as many offerings for styling natural hair as they offer for chemically straightened/ processed hair. Girl! That would make me so! I find your take really interesting because when i think about it im like okay no one has ever blatantly told me that my natural hair was a problem. Even the women that say these things like "natural hair is hard or wont get you the life you desire" .. no one actually said these words to them but rather its something they experienced and internalized. I believe it all goes back to how easy it is for us to be manipulated by the world and what it promotes. Its like instead of us setting our own beauty standards on an individual level that we like from within we look for it outside of ourselves, we look to the world to give us a standard & they are always willing & happy to do so.

I HAVE A QUESTION WHEN DID AFRICANS WEAR AFROS? I was born in the 70s in America 🇺🇸 MY whole entire life as a child my culture been rocking AFRO'S ! Soul train variety show, our politicians, our black Americans singers , Athletes etc. Your topic is misleading. All the women that I see are black Americans with a little Africans with wigs or extentions which is nothing wrong ,but that's not realistic.

What a odd thing to say. 4c hair grow towards the sun. Afros may be a hairstyle but its also a state of the hair. Afros were indeed popularized by african americans but to imply africans hadn't been wearing their hair the way it is before african americans popularized it is beyond ignorant.
