I have always hated wearing synthetic braids. The build-up was gross and the takedown days stressed me out. Ever since I went natural I stuck with mini twists and I can aee my hair growing. For once I look forward to my retwist days since I optimized my routine tremendously. From nearly 6 hours sitting in a hot salon to 2 hours sitting at home and watching my favorite shows while I do my hair.

I refuse to not like my 4c hair.A couple of year's ago,I pushed myself to wear my afro in public.It was uncomfortable,but I said to myself I will not be ashamed nor be fearful of what God has given me.Absolutely not!I will learn to love my hair.PERIOD.

I wish people would stop focusing so much on the hair type chart, which originally did not have 4C. Also he was for relaxing the hair, if you are hair 4. As he said, it’s easier to manage. I staring to realize, the chart as done more harm, than good. Just another way to divide us.

For me I use water, organic Argan oil , and sometimes Xaymacan castor oil butter to keep my hair moisturise. I only use oil, but once maybe twice week, I spray my hair with water, even day lightly.

Being high maintainence to be low maintantence actually isn't all a hoax.Keeping a routine is fine of you can afford it. However, alot of low maintenance people are attacking high maintainence people and it's crazy.

Controversial opinion but: I developed perioral dermatitis a few months ago. I had to stop using traditional skincare for a while, including sunscreen. My skin has never looked better. I typically have a lot of hormonal acne and was using adapalene, but it never prevented more break outs and was super drying on my very dry skin, causing wrinkles under my eyes. When the dermatitis developed, I stopped using normal skincare and switched to Shea butter, olive oil soap and either baking soda scrub or rice face mask (not on the affected area). My skin has been thriving. Dark spots are fading and I have less acne overall. Zinc oxide ointment got rid of the dermatitis, and helps with the other acne (I use this at night bc it turns me white white lol). I do tan when I go out in the sun, obviously, but it’s not a big deal. I need the vitamin D anyway.

It’s sad what is becoming of black hair care companies. I remember growing up. There were a lot of blk hair care brands. Even before my time, blk people had very successful brands. Same when it came to the wigs, weaves etc. but eventually got bought up by non blk. Personally black people. Are thinking of quick cash, not generational wealth. I was so disappointed when I found out shea^ Moisture, got bought up. I got confused why Shea^ moisture was no longer in the blk hair care section, in my country, they were placing them in the wh section. Then I found out they got bought out.

I believe in blk people supporting blk business. There is a beauty store that I sometimes go. It was owned by lady from west Africa. But she sold it to Ethiopian^ couple. I would go there. He sometimes did not have what I needed. He told me. It’s sometimes hard to get products, because the distribution company, only sell to ppl that look that them, if you understand what I’m saying. Blk people don’t own the distribution companies.

I am from east Africa and dark skinned... dark chocoloate tone. Not every African person needs it but some do, especially those with brown to lighter shades, not to forget women and men who bleach. These groups its mandatory to wear sunscreen. However those with deep dark color, not so much. The reality is its not like we expose our skin to the hottest sun everyday because we are dark. I stayed in northern kenya for 2 years and it was normal for people not to go out between 11am and 3pm or rest under shade when the sun its at its hottest. If it a must , they wear caps or bandanas on exposed skin and head.

No group of people hate themselves more than Black people. Colonialism has done a job on us and we don’t even see it. We’ve learned to accept Eurocentric beauty as the standard, all to be accepted 😢

Our hair is not harder to retain length, you just need the right mindset, discipline, routine, products and diet. Diet is always first involving quality of life. Skin, body and hair will reflect.

Also high maintenance to be low maintenance should be things you do once a quarter to twice a year! Once a month isn't "low maintenance". By time that expense is multiplied by 12 it's a huge amount!
@wittykittiАй бұрын
Or in instances where you're able to get a service done for significantly less than the average cost of getting it done at a salon or by a professional. They forget that maintenance involves cost for value, so doing it less and it costs the same as doing it multiple times also doesn't fit this category in my opinion
@wittykittiАй бұрын
It's really problematic that we're being sold on looking "our best" all the time. It's so unrealistic

I dont freaking care how Bw wear their hair, its no ones freaking business. Wearing your natural hair doesn't change anything n the life of Bw no matter what these ppl say. A man who really loves won't care whats on your head as long as your a stand up women they respect l.

I don’t understand why people are « shaming » people who want long coily hair because… every hair type usually want long hair especially in women. That doesn’t mean a person with straight hair hate their because he want longer hair same with wavy, curly and coily.

I'm still struggling with my natural hair. I'm thankful for the hair God gave me, but it's hard to deal with. I can't lie about that. When I was in college, I witnessed how white women, got in shower, washed it, blow dried it, and she was done for the day. I wished it was that easy for me. If I don't have a protective style in, it's a hassle. I'll keep trying and figuring out easy styles to wear that won't take long to do.
