Two step process makes Black. If you mix them 50/50 it will be brown. But do the henna separately for about 5-24 hours depending how warm your house is. And then make the indigo once the henna is ready and mix them together and leave on for 3-4 hours.

This is what i found out that, a good quality pure henna which has been prepared by soaking in something acidic like lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and applied properly will last for a long time. it will fade gradually but some of the colour will last for a long time and may even be permanent. A henna which has been mixed with a lot of other ingredients may not last as long as the above. Pure indigo will not last as long as the henna and will fade and wash out quicker. On average indigo will last for 3 to 4 weeks but it will vary on different peoples hair and depends on how often they wash their hair. Since this was my first time i will wait to see how long it last my hair as i shampoo my hair weekly too 😊

Susie Jones henna is needed because it allows the indigo color to stick. No indigo is better with an alkaline base like baking soda. Henna is better with the acidic base

Yes but it give You different shades of brown depending on the amount you use you get shades from dark brown to light brown. if you want black then it is best to do it step by step.

To henna seems to block my hair absorbing water. Have to use steamers and hooded dryer always. Even spritzing to remoisture I pull out my hand held steam. But, will have to continue to do so because I need to cover my greys.

I've done this a few times and it strengthened my hair strands so much. To prevent the dryness or breakage use black tea and/or aloe vera juice instead of lemon and a teaspoon or 2 of black castor oil (the teaspoon amount depending on how much henna you make and/or your hair's moisture needs) you can also use black seed, avocado, olive, mustard or any kind of oil your hair absorbs best instead...right after the henna or 1 day after the indigo use a deep moisturizer. Shea Moisture's Intense hydration Hair Mask was awesome for me. I also heard there Hydrate + Repair Conditioner was really amazing.

Why??? The first take with lemon was to brown the hair... lemon works as a natural bleach it would turn your hair lighter as well as strip it... why go light brown first to do a jet black .. the first process was pointless...

Henna develops its color with lemon. I said exactly what you said about lemons to my mom so long ago -- back in the 70's when I helped her color her greys. Now I am coloring mine! Just as women who go blonde have a two step process, when women color their grey hair with henna/indigo, it is also a two stop process.
