I have 4c hair. It used to be chin length. My mom and every women in my family told me it wouldn’t be long because it’s not in my genetics. I learned how to care for my hair and now it’s mid back length. I have the longest hair in my family. Our hair, nails, and skin grow until you die. You just have to know how to care/maintain it.

No one said it’s easier or harder but there’s no excuse or justification for why your hair won’t grow even if it’s 4c. You need to learn your hair type and do what’s beneficial for your goals. Consult a professional stylist and dermatologist. Get on a routine and be patient to see results. If your hair grows slow it will take longer. You have to put in the work to see results. That’s how life works.
@Aphrodite01

@@staceymims4759 keeping hair straight helps it grow better. Less tangles/damage/breakage and more length retention. Easier to manage and better for oil distribution and blood circulation from brushing. Luckily your mom helped you and your siblings achieve healthy long hair. It would be expensive to go to a stylist to get it styled weekly/bi-weekly. Time is money.

Genetics only plays a part in how fast the hair grows, not whether it grows *at all* . What I mean by this is if your hair growth is stagnant, it usually (unless you have a genetic/medical condition) means you don't know how to care for it. Hair grows. That's just how hair works. What you're saying is like stating: "skin doesn't heal." Yes, your gentics and lifestyle will affect how *fast* it heals, but not if it heals at all. I literally have a genetic scalp condition that makes it so that I have to make my own products/be mindful of the ones I use and yet me taking care of my hair has helped it grow *way* faster than when I was neglecting it.

Genetics only says how coily it will be coming out of the scalp. Taking care of your body with hydration, eating right, taking vitamins, and taking care of your hair determines how fast it grows and strong your hair is. Stop damaging and breaking your hair. Moisturize.

I bought off Amazon two Heeta plastic hand held scalp massagers, not painful or expensive. I used one at least twice a day. My dermatologist recommended I start using Nioxin shampoo and scalp conditioner (amazing) and a Tea Tree (Lavender) Mint shampoo & conditioner every fourth wash/conditioning. If you use the same shampoo and conditioner, after prolonged use they're not as effective. My co-pay was $20 for the office visit and another $20 for the extremely painful steroid injections in my scalp, the doctor told me probably wouldn't work after 4 visits without any improvement. I began eating healthier, increased my water intake and took a Biotin supplement daily, need to start back. Stopped the Minoxidil completely. My scalp was completely bald, except for the outer two inches all around my head. I wore a pinned ponytail atop my head everyday or you could see my mostly bald scalp very easily. Postmenopausal and no way could I wear a wig. I've never been patient enough to get braids and they can take away edges. The only hair I had left! I refuse to pay more than $100 to get my hair done, so NO weaves. Within a month, I no longer had any completely bald areas. Thank you God! It's been three years since then and most of my hair is just below my shoulders. It's completely natural and I wear it in a pinned ponytail multiple places on my head. My texture is completely different now, I'm happy with each & every coarse/nappy strand of it, solved by applying Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I spent hours reading articles, watching videos and consulting with dermatologists (worked in medical education). Ladies at least give it a try. Everyone that has used this process has seen significant improvement. With applying Minoxidil throughout your scalp twice a day, how good can your hair really look?

@Mimms S I think that when kinky and coily hair is not hydrated or moisturized to its full potential, it looks like 4c cause the curls have 0 definition. There's no hydration(water) to revitalize the curls and no moisturizer(oils, butters, etc) to lock in the hydration. When I first went natural and whenever I don't clarify, deep condition and steam my hair weekly, and use clay baths biweekly, my hair looks like a fro and my curls have 0 definition. I also have low porosity hair so my hair is really hard to hydrate and I have to be real extra trying to get products to work on my hair, not to mention build up is a bitch. I used to think I had 3c, 4a, 4b hair, but now that I moisturize, style, and hydrate properly, I realize my hair is a mix of 3b, 3c, and 4a curls, much looser than I thought. It took almost 7 years of being natural to finally learn how to care for Stella🥲

Oil and moisture is usually the difference between hair that grows and maintains length and hair that doesn’t. Since Everything doesn’t work for everyone, oil produced by the scalp is the best oil to have, so I typically Cowash and wash with shampoo as needed. My hair was also taking forever to grow, and adding moisturizing products isn’t always going to do it on its own. Gentle and light manipulation was also the key for me.

i love the message, something i’ve noticed tho… it seems like people with type 4a/4b don’t have to do as much as 4c to achieve certain styles or maintain shine & luster so it gives the illusion that 4c hair isn’t capable of growing, etc. even simple styles like a “curly” bun or wash and go looks and maintains so differently

Yes our hair absolutely grows and retains length even type 4 with tight coils. We mess up our own hair by doing too much(too many wigs, tight styles, tight sew-ins, too much heat, etc) or by neglecting the hair, washing or detangling the wrong way. Keeping our hair is basic styles like braids, cornrows, twists ,etc(without all the added hair and sculpting gels) is the key to length retention.

As a guy who been growing my hair 1.5yrs I’ve learned so much. Women have such unhealthy hair habits. I thought all women knew hair lol but I’m putting my aunts and cousins on stuff I learned on YT. Like steaming my braids to add moisture underneath so I don’t mess them up. I def have 4b/4C hair any they swear I don’t. Smh. It’s crazy. Took me bout 8 months to learn my hair, what it likes, and what oils my scalp likes.

Not everybody gets the same results because being consistent sounds easy but if you have priorities above your own hair, it's easy to not be able to do everything you're saying every month on a consistent basis. Take the compliments or state your journey but this came off as rude.

You can create your own routine that works best for you. I don't think it's impossible to dedicate at least one day out of like 1 or 2 months to just wash your hair and moisturizer it properly also it's not that hard. All you're doing is detangling and moisturizing your hair You don't need to do anything Extra just learn your porosity so you know how to moisturize your hair you can keep your products cheap and simple. She was by no means rude she's just addressing people who are constantly complaining about how they can't grow their hair she's telling them that they can that is not being rude. If you don't want someone to give you hope and tell you how you can go about it then don't complain.

how was it rude? it's literally the truth. learn what ur hair needs and u will see growth. once u figure that out, taking care of it isn't hard and it shouldn't take that long. one day every 1-2 weeks is all u rlly need and if ur rlly that busy then cut it off and stop complaining 💀

@pvrkjecn It was definitely rude because it came off as a very ungrateful response like come on someone gave her a compliment what is there to get offended for? Accept the compliment or don't accept it not that hard but why get mad at the other person as if compliments are some completely bad thing.....

Im late 40s with the strong belief that my type hair does not grow. With my last pregnancy i experienced hair loss. Thinning on the top of my head with 2 inches of hair, seeing every bald spot. I decided to try to regrow the bald spots, that did not happen but what has happened is in the past 8 months I have seen 6 to 7 inches of growth and body. Never in my whole life have I had this much hair and its blowing my mind lol. Started making my own products and still trying to find the 'cure' for the bald spots. So yeah...stop saying your hair Cant grow...start giving it attention and care and see positive results.

I try a coconut scalp treatment. It’s the best!!! No more dry itchy scalp!! And coconut shampoo. And as a side note if you use any product without properly moisturizing the hair it may break off or you’re not consistent that’s what I suspect about the people complaining about mielle products. Because I’ve been using mielle since it came out without issues. Recognize hair sheds regardless and you need regular trims until your hair is super duper healthy

@@thecreativeKue genetics can only do so much. Yes, it may help with how fast your hair grows or your density. But, if you’re not taking care of your hair, you won’t be able to retain length and grow it at its full capacity. It will break as fast as it grows. So genetics doesn’t help 100% if you don’t have a good regimen.

Me too girl friend. Learned I tried. Healthy hair starts from the inside out eat well foods that are good for your body and hair. Water is essential to healthy hair drink water instead of all that soda etc. I finally after two + years ( thanks to lockdown because of Covid) took the time to learn what vitamins works best for my hair skin and nails. Use less heat or low heat on your hair. Well all I can say is take time learn about your hair type. I did and I learned the hair products that work best and yes yes your hair well grow. Treat it gentle kind and lovely and it will respond with beautiful

You should use the rosemary oil before washing. Rosemary oil can become bacterial if kept on for too long, it can attract dust, and it can clog the hair follicle.

You know what important she stated she learned HOW to take care of it...black hair does grow and can be healthy and long...I'm definitely a witness granted I'm in my 30s now and I'm a fan of short natural hair now just easier and my presence now days but I literally cut my hair every may ( last 6 years) and grow it out during the fall and winter months and I just keep my scalp clean and balance between moisture and protein and my hair grows like crazy you wouldn't even know I wear my hair short all summer.

I grew up with alopecia. I now trim and wash my hair every 2 months (cause it’s usually braided with protective styling) All we can really do is hair masks, oil treatments, and protective styling to keep it growing. My hair is now down my mid back, but I’m afraid it’ll never be as long as I want it to be. Even if I wanted it to, it would take about 5 years if I kept it under protective styling. Our hair is beautiful ladies, but the growth process is so slow. Don’t give up on it!
