I dared my self and I did it. Yeah! 1 year of wearing mini braids( refreshed periodically) July 2019-July 2020 Wow !!! I retained so much length. (Mid back -Hip length) I'm at Hip length. Wish I can post a picture. I do share your videos with other naturals. Challenge: having to install mini braids on hip length natural hair. But if you can do it, I will.

I remember when you put out your first mini braids video, I decided to try it and I found out my hair retains the most length when I am braiding my hair up. And I actually started noticing growth in my hair. Before that my hair was stuck at the same length. It’s a tedious process but in the end it’s very beneficial!

Fuzzy Wuzzy awwwwww thanks for being here this long. And yes u r so right. I couldn't get pass neck length then I started braiding my own hair and it start growing. A lot of people think it damages your hair but it dont. I'm happy it works for u.

Your mini braids are always so beautiful.💖 You were my inspiration in attempting them for the first time years ago. They are my go to protective style that actually protects, grows, and really do retain length. You’re so right about doing what works best for your hair. For me it’s been trial and error. My braids have gotten significantly smaller, and my installation has gotten faster over the years as I’ve gained confidence and experience. I currently have my mini braids in going on almost 2 months now. Planning on stretching it out to 4 months. I’ve only rebraided the very perimeter of the front edges (about 10 braids). I’m on a growth journey for the next year. I agree with you about not having any problems with my ends unraveling, knotting up, or dreading. I experienced that with mini twists back in February, which caused a huge set back. Resulting with me having to cut off about 3 inches. The only time I’ve experienced problems with my ends was when I was lazy in keeping my braids moisturized. I think the key is keeping your ends moisturize and sealed (at least for me). I’ve also find that keeping my ends protected also helps (buns, Banding, etc). I seldom wear my hair in a loose state, and if so, I make sure it’s highly moisturized and sealed. I also deep-condition after washing...my braids just feel amazing afterwards. I’ve also noticed that braiding one cornrow in the very nape area (first row) instead of singles really helps in reducing breakage, knotting, and buildup, and promotes growth. Maybe it’s because my texture is a lot looser and finer there. I redo that cornrow once a month and change the side I start on. (Hope that makes sense). My thought for those having issues with this protective style, here are some things to keep in mind. - Are you braiding tight enough (not the base but the length of the braid)? - Are you braiding down as far as you can and leaving no more than one inch of hair unbraided? - Are you keeping your braids moistures and sealed daily? - Are you keeping your vulnerable ends protected? - Remember this is all your hair, treat it and protect it as you would your loose hair. Thank you for such a thorough video. Mini braids are the truth!!! They have never failed me. Thank you for your continuous inspiration .👩🏾🦱🌺💖

Hi Naturally Marked, Beautiful Job. It's good to see younger generation discovering growth retention styles. We use to braid our hair that way in the 70's it really works. Singer and composer Valerie Simpson always wore her hair natural braid. I wore my hair this way and, love the way it grew. thank you for the video ❤
@Blvd403 жыл бұрын
I'm about halfway through watching and 3/4 of the way to complete my own mini braids as I am sitting here doing my hair well I'm watching you do yours.😊 I'm using shea butter as well but I let my hair air-dry in big plaits after washing as my stretch method. I'm more than three-quarters of the way done actually and I'm just now deciding to try your blow-dried method. Boy what a difference it makes!🤦🏾♀️🤯 Even though my hair is detangled and stretched pretty well, I always get tangles that crop up when I'm first starting a braid section. They go away when I'm about halfway down my braids, but it's so annoying when it starts tangling before I've even got the braids barely started. A blow-dry on low setting it's helping that out. As soon as I complete my head I am going to do a light dusting over the bottom too so that hopefully the takedown will be easier after getting rid of these split ends that keep catching while I'm braiding. You're always an inspiration. This is my umpteenth time coming back to this video since I first discovered it a couple of years ago, but today is my first time actually following along.👍🥰

Have you always blow dried section by section as you braid or is this new? When using the shea butter have you every mixed it with oils before applying to hair? And if so, do you notice a difference with the softness of your hair when you blow dry?
@NaturallyMarked6 жыл бұрын
i3abikay thank you for asking something that I've never answered before yes I have always blow dry my hair section by section because I don't want the rest of my hair to revert no I have never melted the shea butter and mixed oils and with the shea butter I like it just straight raw and cold the shea butter warms up after I blow dry it
@i3abikay6 жыл бұрын
Naturally Marked thank you. I'm going to get some more shea butter and use it raw as is to see if it makes a difference with my hair. I tried to blow dry with my mix and it didn't make my hair soft at all. My hair got dried out 😩

Drink a lot of coconut water (Vita Coco) during (flows visit), hopefully you ain't allergic to coconut and you like it. High amounts of potassium greatly decreases my cramps, fyi it also increases flow but so worth it.

Sis when did you start doing these? I mean at what length? Do you pre stretch with bantuknots? I would love to try this but my ends aren't as thick as yours. I have medium density. So I don't like when the volume disappears

Do you braid all the way down your hair or do you start twisting towards the bottom? I didn’t watch this whole video but can you show normal or slightly slow speed of what you’re doing so we can see the details?
