FWIW, I've sampled a lot of online bass teachers, and IMO Mark is the best I've seen. He's very easy to watch and listen to, he has a solid and fluent knowledge, he explains things flawlessly, and he can illustrate what he's talking about with excellent examples.

I just started learning to play the bass about a month and a half ago and your videos have helped me immensely! As someone with basically no prior knowledge of music theory, you explain everything in a very understandable way. Thank you!

Great video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Riddleagan Blossoming Solo Remedy (just google it)? It is a great exclusive guide for mastering guitar scales minus the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my good mate called Gray after a lifetime of fighting got excellent results with it.

This was a great lesson! And so many minor riff combinations can be created after learning these basics!

Mark, thank you for such excellent straight forward lessons- very much appreciated. I have a question, as an older largely self taught bassist, I feel that there is only so much theory I should aim to learn and apply. I am in a fab and funky band but I feel that certain knowledge won't be necessary- leave- It to the youth ❤❤

There is a wealth of free information contained in Mark's free lessons (as you are no doubt already aware). You might also want to consider Mark's Talkingbass beginners course for $25. There is no 'single path to success, each of us is on a unique learning journey. Work out what type of player you want to be, what style (or styles) you particularly like, and tailor your learning towards these goals.

Hey Mark! I've been using natural but mostly harmonic minor scales for creation of old Turkish Art Music. It perfectly fits in. Could you kindly make a video for that harmonic minor scales? By the way, Happy New Year and keep up the good work in the new year too.
@talkingbasslessons8 жыл бұрын
Yup. I'm going to run through all the most popular scales over the coming weeks. If you want a bit more before that just check out the ebooks over at talkingbass.net.

I'm looking to buy a bass this Christmas as I sing and play Ukulele and have always fancied playing bass....but I hardly understood any of this lol.
@jimbonjovi4 жыл бұрын
I myself have been playing ukulele for about 6 months and bought a bass about 3 months ago, the bass is very interesting (and complex) I would recommend but there is a lot of information on the internet that can be confusing (and quite overwhelming if I do say so myself) so just remember to take it one step at a time or you may end up quitting from the confusion haha

? 6th fret a string is a D# not an E on my scales , am i wrong?

@ngaidesmond5 жыл бұрын
excuse me, i learn all the correct riff notes and it sounds nowhere as clean as you demonstrated, hugely because of the strings suspending the note i just played and when i moved to the new string, the previous still vibrating, and some notes clash together. did you do something about it naturally with you right hand (thumb?), or is it a skill on the left fingers? thank you a lot, great lessons.
