I thought getting a Swiss passport was difficult all those years ago but compared to obtaining a Thai passport it was doable. I can't think of any advantages that I would gain that would make it worthwhile, I would be better off financially in Switzerland if they ever force me out anyway (It is a bit colder....)

I am fortunate to have a mother who is born and from Thailand and my father being American. Due to my mother and with me being born in the states I automatically qualify for Thai citizenship. Their law states that if you are born to a Thai parent outside of Thailand then you automatically qualify for citizenship. I had to first go after my Thai birth certificate (yes they make people like me get this who qualify for this). So for the rest of my life I will have 2 birth certificate. Thailand and USA. Then I got my National Thai ID card and Thai passport. So my process was a lot easier and simple just for having a Thai parent.

Hey mate, my sons have also a Thai mother, I am Germany abd we live in Germany. I would like to get my boys the dual citizenship - but I am scared about military service in Thailand. Do you have any infos, if half Thais in Europe will be forced to to military service in Thailand?

My 2 sons were born in Thailand some 30 years ago. At the time they did not gain Thai citizenship upon birth even though their mother is Thai as this was not the law at the time. Should they seek Thai citizenship would they be required to speak Thai and pass a test?

Please contact Thai Consulate there is a new law that might help you apply for a Thai Birth Certificate for your children and does not require to speak Thai. Good luck.
