Time to treat our goats for bugs that we found. A week ago we noticed some little bugs around the ears of our kid goats. After treating them with Diatomaceous Earth (DE) we noticed that the bugs were gone but they have laid their eggs and it was time for a follow up treatment.

Hey Tara and Mark, it's Deb here. It is so good to see these animals back into the your after such a long winter. To see Sheldon and Myra running around like they were put a big smile on my face. All those precious little babies just melted my heart. I'm sorry I haven't been here in a few weeks having a lot of problems with my back still. My surgery had to be postponed because it may end up being two surgeries at the same time. It's also coming out my my son's birthday which is a very hard day for me. The temperatures have been so cold here oh, that I haven't been able to get my starters in the ground. I'm going to have to replant zucchini and squash and watermelon, because they got too leggy and started dying off. That's okay I usually start them outside anyway but this year I thought I would give it a try inside. I actually have better luck planting them directly in the ground I'm getting a heart as quicker. That is on some things not all of them. I have four more trays a vegetables to go into the garden + 5 flower trays going into the garden and there's 50 cells in each tray so there's quite a few. And I planted four seeds in each cell in the corners. Today the temperatures were in the 80s that I was hurting so bad I just couldn't get up. I'm praying today it's at the temperatures will warm up enough this morning so I can be out there around 9 and get a lot of it planted. only way I can do it is to crawl around on my knees and hands. That's what you call immersing your whole self in your garden LOL I could probably do the army crawl if my back wasn't messed up LOL. Thank you for another great video. It's good to see everybody doing so well. Sorry to hear about one of your turkeys. That's really sad. Is there anything that can be done to their Spurs to keep them from damaging the females like this? I would hope so. It's sad to lose an animal especially when it's an accident while mating. Take care and God bless Deb

I love DIATEMACEOUS EARTH. It’s the only dewormer I use on all my animals including using it myself. My vet knew very little about DE, when I told him that I do not use chemical dewormers he was a little stunned. He asked me if he could run a fecal on my alpacas and goats, I said “sure.” He later calls me on the phone and tells me,” I am amazed.” He told me that he really thought that he would find parasites but he didn’t. DE works!!!! I just mix it with their feed. USE THE FOOD GRADE. Great video guys! 👍

Hiya guys.....Here in Australia, I found it hard trying to find DE, finally found some and it says that I can give to my goats (animals) with their food, a natural dewormer....however after watching you guys, I am also gonna rub on their backs too. Do you do this regularly or only when you see critters/eggs? I didn't know you could use firewood ash. You have gorgeous lil kids...super cute.
@The10AcreWoods

In the spring we do every 2 weeks or so , this is when they show up naturally. So depending on area(weather) Can do a monthly dusting of ashes, getting it into a routine to prevent laying of eggs. Once you see eggs then have to do every week as they hatch.

Please be careful inhaling that stuff, it should say on the enclosure avoid inhaling, wear at least a dust mask. My friends make up some type of mixture with a bit of molasses and it works fine for the different ones and my granny use to use potash like you were saying. That is what they called the ashes. If you apply this like your doing and it gets wet by rain or water it wouldn’t be effective if that were the case.potash worked fine where I was born in Georgia, USA.

We usually treat first sign(about 2 weeks old) can just put down there back and armpits and leave it on, it will disappear, can retreat in 2 weeks(lice gestation) and once a month for maintenance. They shake it off by end of day(or shake into the inner layers against skin to treat) We used to use as dewormer (in food) now we use pumpkin, squash seeds. I do prefer the seeds as they love it as a treat as well. We also use ashes more now as they are free, but food grade is fine.

@@The10AcreWoods I would advise anyone applying DE to kids to cover their little mouths very gentle with a t-shirt or some other light weight fabric. It can wreak havoc on their little lungs.
