QUESTION : What is the worst thing you've ever seen while in the field?

A big thank you for sharing the message of Nature First, Guido. The ambassadors of Nature First all over the world need people like you to help us encouraging photographers (and other people) to act responsible towards nature. To all the other people on this channel: please help us to spread the message. Nature First! 🙏

Thabk you ruud! It was a pleasure meeting you and I actually feel it as my duty to use the channel for messages like this also. I'm just happy to support a movement like nature first if I can! Thanks for watching and your comment. Grt guido

Thank you for this important message. I belong to birding and bird photography groups here in the SF Bay Area, and we all strongly emphasize the need to respect wildlife and protect the environment. Over the past 3 decades, environmental groups have worked to save and recover marsh habitat around the bay, much of which had long been compromised by development and industrial sites. It actually gives me hope to see habitat returning as a result of those efforts.

There is deffinitly a change in nature preservation and protection around the world. I hope it not to late and that we can still save this planet but looking at what is going on around the world these days I'm not so sure of it. But It would be a shame if all this preservation went to waste because photographer start rushing in by the dozens. Look here in the netherlands. We haven't had wolves here for 150 years but since 2025 they returned. Now photographers are chasing after them and I heard stories of them feeding the wolves. Result, wolves are not afraid of human in some areas. Wolves attacking people walking they're dogs. And now they are trying to get the law changed so the wolves loose they're protected status and they can be killed again. I'm not blaming it all on photographers but we are ruining such an amazing thing. Thanks for watching and sharing your story. Grt guido

Nature first; I like that initiative and follow their guidelines myself. Great that you bring their movement and principles in the spotlight of your channel!

Thanks for supporting them Wim. I think they are doing a great job with spreading these "guidelines". I'm not holier then the pope and sometimes I don't follow it but I always try to think about what impact my actions might have. Anyway thanks for supporting nature first and your comment. Grt guido

@ I mainly shoot birds, but do drift into other genres at times. Photographing people is usually outside my comfort zone though.

I was out all day today it was so grey and dismal. I did get a couple shots of a Snowy Owl from a respectable distance. It's important that we take care of the environment, even from a selfish viewpoint, we must have something left to photograph in the future. On a grey day, "Point the Camera Down" Macro or Tabletops would be an alternative as well. Great points you made in the video. Mike

I've got a couple of ideas indeed to get some nice images and videos. Just changing the mindset a little. This week there was a part in the news aboutnourbwrather here. We had the lobgest period without sun in over 35 years. 4 weeks in a row without sunlight. The there was some sunshine for a afternoon and now it's another week of grey skies and rain. Never experienced such a gloomy period. Hopefully it will change soon. Thanks for watching grt guido

Hi Guido, thanks for actively supporting this cause, unfortunately there are more and more people that blatantly ignore restrictions to protect wildlife and habitats. When challenged they become very aggressive and basically tell you to mind your own business. So sad but that is the way it is going and I wish it were different. 😢

Yes, I agree, and I personally won't speak to anyone while in the field. I'm not getting injured or anything because someone gets mad at me. So what I can do is spread the message through the channel or on lectures and events. The world is changing and it's not for the good. Hopefully there will be something left for my kids when they get older. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Grt guido

After I met up with people from nature first, I also found that there is lots of it on youtube. We just should be proud and careful with the nature that is left. Hopefully, conditions will improve soon for us. Last week, there was a news article here that we are having the longest period without sunshine in 35 years! Sun didn't come trough the cloud cover once for over 4 weeks! Then it was there for a afternoon and then it was gone again. Bizarre conditions never experienced anything like it before. Thanks for watching grt guido

Instagram influencers are mostly like swarms of locusts, they come and take what they want then leave a path of destruction, thank you for your respect of nature and the promotion of it.

Yeah that's why I rather stay away from those instagram hotspots and just find my own spots. I've decided to be a bit more holding back locations I visit just to prevent that I am the one causing it. Thanks for watching and your support. Grt guido

Rolling Stones singed already 1966 about "we can't always get what we want..." Start with macro and look for the micro details 🙂 People can behave very strange and stupid in nature. Despite signs and common sense people believe they can do whatever they want. As a result more regulations come through that limit the access. In Sweden we have "Allemansrätten" that gives an outstanding freedom but as time goes by it becomes more threatened. Happy new year and a thank you for the good reminder 🙂

Your allemansratte is a very valuable thing. Totally impossible here in the netherlands. People will never allow someone on they're land. What you have is the same in Scotland. But you do have more room in your country for something like this. Love your country and maybe i will visit it again this year. Thanks for watchibg grt guido

@GuidoVanDeWater You're most welcome back again ♥️ The majority of the population lives in the southern part of Sweden. In my county we are not that many and someone calculated that each individual who lives here has about two football fields of own space 🙂 In the Netherlands you are overcrowded, more or less.
@GuidoVanDeWater19 күн бұрын
Wow amazing. I can only dream of so much open space around me. In the netherlands the average is 533 person per km2. But that is an average. In some parts is about 6800 people per km2. I think we are one the most crowded countries on the planet today. We even have more people per km2 then India and China... I forgot we're you lived in sweden? Grt guido

@GuidoVanDeWater Jämtland, not so far away from your friend you visited last year. The big city is Östersund which is a fraction of Stockholm. The numbers you mention for the Netherlands are scary. At least to me 😱

You know... you only start to realise how busy this country is when you leave it for a place like sweden, Denmark etc. The calmness that i experienced last year was amazing. Who knows maybe we can meet up sometime when indecide to go there again 😅 love your country! Grt guido

I really like the principles of Nature First and I think photography should be a ‘force for good’ (making people aware of the beauty of nature, inspiring them to protect it). Nevertheless I feel the orgnization is somehow scapegoating photographers, so I think it would be much better if it didn’t focus on photography, but on everyone who goes into nature. In general I feel that most photographers are very respectful of the environment and many other outdoor activities leave much bigger footprints.
@GuidoVanDeWater18 күн бұрын
I agree with that! Somehow people from forest maintenance here in the netherlands are also very focused on photographer while they are just a tiny piece of the problem. I once got a warning for standing 2 meters from the path while 100 meters further a group of young people was having a party with getto blasters, alcohol etc in the middle of the heather... he saw it but didn't react to it at all. Somehow they are very picky on photographers. Anyhow I think you are right and everyone should think about what they're impact is on nature. Thanks for watchibg grt guido
