It is said that much of the raven guard history being blank or absent, is a testament to their efficacy. To be remembered by anyone, an astartes as secretive as a Captain of the Raven Guard no less, is probably one of the highest honours a guardsman could ever dream of. The raven knows how it feels to fight without hope, but still stand with courage. A bond between warriors, great and small

Heartless? I wouldnt say that. There are other ways to lure an enemy into a trap, they didnt need to use Serge as bait and put the captain in a vulnerable position like that after all, but the Captain decided to do that and achieve two good things. The first is obvious, deal with enemy armour, but the second was just as important. He gave a dying man hope, he reassured him that he hadnt died in vain and even let an ordinary Guardsman assist in the destruction of a Chaos armoured monstrosity that he ordinarily wouldnt be able to even inconvenience. In a Universe where most Guardsman die as nothing more than forgotten red mist, probably not even remembered by their comrades and with the knowledge that they did basically nothing to help, that is certainly the greatest gift the Raven Guard could give the Guardsman.
@chimchu3232 Жыл бұрын
I agree 100%, it's not brutal or heartless. A space marine talking to a guardsman for any reason had to be the highlight of his short life, and the ultimate honor. These are literal angels of death swooping in to save the day, and they stop to commend a random soldier for his bravery. Whether using him as bait or not, he knew he was dead, and that's probably the best way he could have gone out.
@enragedfist76862 жыл бұрын
Captain Koryn is one of the most written about Raven Guard. His friendship with the captain of the Brazen Minotaurs is well done, given that their modus operandi is polar opposite to each other. So many of the Raven Guard's feats, being fought in the shadows, in the 'background' as it were, their own deeds are unremembered outside of their Chapter. By telling him he'd remember, I think the Captain meant to reassure the Guardsman - it's compassion appropriate to the circumstances.

@serbubogdan32842 жыл бұрын
I do like “tactically sensible” or “strategically oriented” Space Marines chapters such as the Ravenguard. As well as non Space Marine chapters such as the Lucifer Blacks or the Raptors. They are as close to reality as it can be considering the Warhammer 40k universe where most of the Imperium of Man military yell “For the Emperor” and just dive recklessly into battle with no plan and sketchy objective. It’s refreshing at least for me, to stumble upon well thought or strategically sound and purposeful moments such as these

I feel like Corax might have been imbued with empathy, or at least imbued with the potential to be empathetic, in order to balance out his other, more spec ops related abilities. A primarch who is as tactically and strategically gifted as Corax needs to have empathy so that he doesn't end up inadvertently sacrificing too much of humanity simply because it makes the most sense in a purely logical argument.

I'm 100% biased on this one for the Raven Guard is my favourite loyal legion, but I am certain with them being the MVP from the heresy if you consider it happened right after Itsvaan. With a ratio of victories+results compared with the small number of marines they had, it's hard to argue how great they did. They are just not spotlighted in the Siege of Terra because Corax decided to guerrilla fight the traitors from minute 1 instead of pursuing an heroic last stand (which, truth be told, he was tempted to).

Other like the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Ultramarines already had alot and it just expanded it. However the Raven Guard, Salamanders, and Iron Hands need more love and depth.
@thisguynamedmatt12 Жыл бұрын
I think that they are simultaneously cold and caring. They are weapons of death firstly, but they are ultimately still very human deep down, the most human of the Astartes are probably the White Scars, Ravenguard, and the Salamanders. The Ravenguard have always been fundamentally stalwart defenders of humanity, and they defend humanity from itself, the 6th company is an example of this. They cant afford emotion, such that is when its dulled by their genetic mutation- if they were allowed it, then perhaps they would, but they understand their function.

Six minutes in and I am honestly surprised at Rho's reaction. The Raven Guard are amongst the most human of the Astartes. They fight EXPLICITLY for the little guy, the downtrodden, and for a concept of justice. There are several Corax quotes about this, including one regarding force without justice being tyranny. The Raven Guard are products of a successful revolt from a populace full political prisoners and working class citizens held in eternal bondage by an oligarchy. Their Ravenspire is made from that prison complex and they are closer to the common people that many of the Astartes, including the Wolves of Fenris, who arff bark bark play the role of valkyrie choosers of the slain types to the ass backwards superstitious idiots of Fenris. When Corax brought a world into compliance (might even have been Isstvaan, don't quote me on that) he gives a whole speech to the defeated how they bend the knee as beaten opponents but rise as citizens of the Imperium. They also routinely gather data, particularly after battles. As far back as their White Dwarf Index Astartes article, it notes they hold post battle debriefings and reports, to analyze what happened, what might be done better. And yes, it was obvious it was part of a larger play. The two are not indistinguishable.
