Fascinating, especially for the idea of emphasizing feminine aspect in spirituality, like Lao-Tseu did (idea of the "mysterious female" in the Dao De Jing), and Daoism in general as a philosophy of the connection to nature. In Hinduism as well there is an emphasis to the development of unconscious part of the mind (like in Kundalini practices) opposed to the conscious part.

Its sounds just like the egg theory we all keep reading about. The crazy thing is how there are these root concepts in the ancient cultures' universal perspectives no matter where in world they originated. Once you start down this path and you still live in the modern world it is hysterically funny when you watch political debates... sad, funny and scary all at the same time.

a question, I am still learning basics after years of interest in Taoism. I understand yin and yang to create balance and that you cannot have good without evil and acceptance of both is important, but I also feel the need to live a good and peaceful life with compassion and love.... is this where the "te" comes in the virtue of life?

I know this statement may sound question begging and I mean it with utmost respect, but if we really identify with the universal and loose the here and now of ourselves, what would compel us to help one another. If we truly reach identification beyond the self, we would have no compulsion to save the living things, no? Because being and not being would be one. It seems to really reach a state of compassionate living we have to stay tethered to the here and now in some way. Or am I mistaken in my thinking? Regardless of that jibberish, great channel video and discussion. Kudos

Galen Kaback ~ your question got me thinking ~ nature, animals birds and trees don’t dwell on the future or past and they don’t label things or judge and yet all seems to work in harmony. Perhaps the Tao assists us when we let go....? Going with the flow of the current instead of resisting it... any thoughts...?
@dunston19825 жыл бұрын
@@paulhargreaves9103 awesome thoughts, but I would make a distinction between flowing with the Tao and dissolving ego to a universal perspective. Flowing with Tao I don't find mutually exclusive with maintaining a uniform manifold of identity in a singular instance. The point he seemed to be making is that by pulling through the Vail of Maya, our oneness as Brahman would compel us to act altruistically. But that begs Brahman's ability to reconnect to the Vail, and not dissolve it. Seemed incongruous. But, on a separate note, I understand it to be the case that effortlessly flowing with the way begets harmony with all things, which benefits all things.
@paulhargreaves91035 жыл бұрын
Galen Kaback ~ I guess if we let go.... we let go of everything...! That being said... would a true enlightened spirit offer help to a man in need ?
@dunston19825 жыл бұрын
Indeed, that's my question, would true enlightenment, in terms of universal perspective and detachment, preclude altruism in the every day sense, or is that a definition of enlightenment we want to adopt

Really interesting interview! I look forward to his documentary and book. So much of this interview resonated with me, and there were a few moments when he was discussing oneness and our connection to nature and the world, when I felt tears behind my eyes and a constriction in my throat. I don't get to have these types of discussions in my day-to-day life, anybody I have met who is willing to have a discussion like this has been a passing presence in my life, so it's wonderful to have these videos and an online community to turn to.

nice video. 20 years ago, Gangaji, a magnificent white Hawaiian was asked " before your awakening, what was your greatest hope?" she ans: To know that I am a part of everything, the sun, the wind ,the earth the sky ...." then she got a curious look on her face and said "never did I imagine that I am the totality of Consciousness" which is something entirely different. Nice creation myth, but...Creation, the Absolute, manifested and the unmanifested, universe upon universe. Completely incomprehensible, and we say "and this is why the universe saw created" ???? maybe

To find the truth, God, the source, nirvana, I travelled the whole world, climbed mountains, swimmer across rivers, faced odds, wars, dangers. Then I was sick and deported to my village in Belgium. I the realized that what I had been looking for had always been there, in me. Westerners, keep your money. There are enough books and enough silence in the world for you to awake anywhere.

There is a vast difference between recognizing that we all live within the temporal purview of the natural laws that constitute the Tao - and the delusion that we, as part of some "Collective Conscience" created those laws. The Creator living in you does not mean that you are the Creator.

I think Joseph is smiling so much because he's repressing his gay feelings. I'm clever at reading people. Whenever he looks at Thompson you could tell he has feelings for him so he stifles his laugh. And when he talks about the elderly man he also tries to suppress his emotions. His emotions are a bit confused and he's trying to act civilized but it's like theirs a wild free spirited person within him he's holding back.
